I have been with Dare on and off for about 7 years. I stopped working out during the pandemic and got lazy, but noticed I really needed to work out. I needed this physically and mentally! So I think I'm going to echo what everyone else has said below, but this is probably the nicest most welcoming CrossFit gym you'll find. I've heard the horror stories and typical fears people have entering a CrossFit gym/box. This place is completely not those things. Everyone is so kind and welcoming---no one is pushy or scary or mean. Coach Daniel goes above and beyond to educate and ensure that you're safe and that you're building technique above anything else. For someone without a background in CrossFit, this was such a gradual (but challenging in a good way) introduction to this sport. I love coming here and I'm even one of those early people that work out at the 6:30am classes...which before CrossFit Dare, I would never believe I'd be a morning person. I am an obese 57 year old man. By obese I mean, well I'm about 150 pounds overweight and not in very good shape. I came to CrossFit Dare for my son, who wanted to get in shape. I joined a few weeks later. It was a huge move on my part, but I'm glad I did it. I'm 6'2" and I am not very flexible. Plus, I am suffering from hip and lower back injuries, which made working out difficult. I was afraid that I would injure myself further. My previous experiences at another box were not positive and caused the hip injury. Coach Daniel listened, but I could tell that he also heard me. He developed a training program tailored to my needs. He focused on flexibility and strength training, while also emphasizing conditioning. We started working together twice a week and now, five months later, I am still keeping up with my workouts. Coach Daniel has a way of pushing you to your limit without hurting you. I often leave his box feeling like I can't do another thing, but I alway come back for another round. I'm five months into training now, so it is time to post this review and some results. I'm still an obese 57 year old man, but I can do squats, ring rows, pushups and push that damn cart. I can do so many things now that a few short month ago, were not possible. I did the hard work. Coach Daniel was my guide (and coach). I've lost 65 pounds through a combination of CrossFit and Keto. Coach Daniel helps with diet as well. My target is to eat to plan. Coach Daniel holds me accountable and offers advice to help manage my diet. I'm also able to do things now, like walk. When I first started, I could not walk more than 100 yards without needing to rest and stretch my back. I was one of those people who was super skeptical of CrossFit. I had uneducated connotations that were based on assumptions of voices around me in the fitness world. Working as a personal trainer for two years, I had never been a member of a CrossFit Box. My biggest concern was I am going to go too fast and have improper form. Although, that could not be farther from reality. The coaching and guidance at CrossFit Dare is structured around building you up to be all that you can be in fitness. Whatever your fitness goals are, weight loss, tri - training, 10k training, or simply creating a healthier lifestyle for yourself you will find knowledgeable guidance from Coach D. The coaching starts with basics and builds you up from there. As a personal trainer I was really impressed with the coaching, structure and efficiency of classes. Each workout is unique while the structure of each class is dependable. Meaning we warm up with dynamic stretching, strength or learning technique of exercises, hit the WOD (workout of the day) and stretch at the end of class. One thing I was not expecting from CrossFit was increased mobility. I am lazy with stretching but had no choice but to do the different mobility/stretching exercises which in turn, helps with proper form coming more easily/naturally. Another concern I held was that as I am training for a triathlon how CrossFit would fit in to my program. When I voiced this to Coach D, he suggested some different Tri - CrossFit training resources which were extremely helpful in helping me determine what program I would be using. The staff is knowledgeable and considerate in helping you figure out what is the best way to train for your specific fitness goals. I know that training at CrossFit Dare has helped me with building strength and stamina as I am training for my first Triathlon. Nutrition is a major part of health and wellness that can get overlooked, ignored or not talked about. Not knowing how or why to eat is a huge problem in the United States and I have been extremely impressed with all the resourcing that the team at CrossFit Dare does for us. Not only do they resource us with meal plans(Paleo, Zone (for proper macro - nutrients)) but they hold us accountable as well. This review is coming from someone who is still a beginner. If you are thinking of joining Crossfit Dare and looking for the perspective of someone who just got into it, then this review is for you. I had been trying everything I can to lose weight and be fit, I tried going on diets, I joined 24 hour fitness and for a while, I was getting results. The main issue I had was that although I joined 24 hour fitness, I had no idea how to do any exercises or use any of the machines so I was always stuck using the treadmill and elliptical only. I then decided I needed to do something else to be fit. I looked into personal trainers, I looked into other crossfit gyms before I finally found Crossfit Dare. When I first met coach, I was really impressed by the attention and how knowledgeable he was to every question I asked. He also had a lot of questions for me as well, I think he was trying to gauge if I was ready and willing for the challenge. Crossfit is not easy and I knew I was ready for the challenge so he asked me to come in for a class and see what I thought. All new users need to go through a ramp up class before you begin the normal workouts of the day, these ramp up classes help you learn all the proper movements and proper techniques of the workouts so that you don't end up hurting yourself. During the ramp up classes, you will be corrected a lot for anything done wrong, you will be asked a lot of questions from the coach such as if anything hurts or where you are feeling the exercise the most, remember, this is all crucial to make sure you are doing it right. The gym itself has a very warm and welcoming culture to it. One of the things I hated about being a 24 hour fitness member was the meat-head mentality of the people at the gym making beginners like me feel intimidated, Crossfit Dare is not like that at all. From day 1, everyone welcomed me to the gym and introduced themselves. When I had chats with other members and explained how I was frustrated I could not do a proper squat, they were all very understanding and reminded me that they were all there at one point too but that I would get it soon. The gym also has group events that get scheduled outside of the workouts such as hikes and a recent bowling night. This is the type of culture the gym has developed, one that feels like a very tight knit family. I am so glad that I joined but I must stress, it is not easy! But hey, that's what I signed up for and that's what I knew I was getting in to. Every time I go in, I am wondering how I will ever get through the workout of the day and every time I finish it, I feel so happy and proud that I got through it........ and I'm just beginning! This review has been long overdue! Joining CrossFit Dare has changed the trajectory of my life for the better and I am confident that it will do the same to yours. I had this preconceived notion that a standard CrossFit gym was this harsh and unforgiving milieu, void of any emotions. Surely all these star athletes competing in the CrossFit Games were nurtured in this environment which resulted in their massive quads and traps and overall badassery. I realized very quickly it could not have been further from the truth. Prompted to make a change in my life after seeing an unrecognizable photo of myself due to weight gain, I made the decision to join in 2017. And it was the best decision I ever made, all because of Coach Daniel. It will be hard to find anyone as attentive and invested as he in your fitness journey. I learned that the hard way! From creating personalized workouts/meal plans to tailor a person's specific needs to hosting events outside of the gym to embrace community and teambuilding, I could not have asked for a better trainer, especially one that is so responsive and understanding to my fluctuating needs in and out of the gym. With his coaching and expertise, I have learned how to identify bad habits in my life that would unconsciously trigger even worse habits that prevented me from living a healthy life that I desperately craved. Awesome place to workout, learn about CrossFit and anything related to a healthier life style! I used to workout at 24 hour fitness until I got hurt and decided I wanted to try CrossFit and actually have a coach that knows what he is doing(because I didn't really know squat!). Everyday I looked forward to going to the box, wondering what kind of workout we would be doing for that day. Only reason I stopped is because work+family leaves me with little to no time(barely sleep at times ) I think I picked the best possible 1st box/gym/coach possible. I was there off and on for about 6 years and enjoyed my time there. Highly recommended if you are new to CrossFit or working out in general. Daniel is very knowledgeable and truly cares for each of his members. He's always asking questions about what we think about the programming, what we like/dislike, what could be improved, etc. Basically getting feedback and applying it to changes in the future trying different things out. I think the main thing I liked about this place is the ramp up classes. They are classes that you must attend the first two weeks to practice basic warm ups and form. It's also a great way to get to know the people in the classes since you guys start at the same day/time. Also Coach D is different, genuinely caring, almost too caring for your fitness. Kinda forces you to start caring too, lol. Always asking people if they have questions, and if not, I noticed he starts throwing out facts on potential questions, Now that's a great coach/mentor. The Coach and Owner are super friendly. They actually made an effort to remember your name before I actually committed to stay. The classes are small so it feels like you have a personal trainer but without the price tag. I think it's funny whenever we do a 200m dash, because it is towards the McDonalds. I always wondered if during the 200m dash, if some people never came back and just stayed at McDonalds. They have a bring a friend day on Saturdays or you can just call to try it out. That's what I did, and it was awesome. They absolutely did not pressure me to sign up and Coach D even gave us fitness tips just in case we decide to not sign up. I mean the guy is trying to make everyone healthy. Great environment, great coach, great place. Try it out, you will not regret it. Also, a really big thing to note that isn't advertised but should be is the Coach has a background in kinesiology. What does that mean? He actually has a college background in regards to fitness and health. I have such a love/hate relationship with CrossFit. It's probably one of the toughest and challenging strength and conditioning programs I have ever done, I have never been sore for so many consecutive days, I'm starting to think its not normal. That being said, its also one of the most fun and exciting fitness programs ever, and CrossFit Dare is the best place to do it. I'll admit I thought this program was just another expensive gimmick but after going through a 2-week trial/intro program (AKA Ramp-Up), I was hooked, and now its been 6 months and I plan on doing more. The workouts are quick, intense, to the point, and require little to no equipment, which makes it great for people with busy schedules and those who like things efficient, like me! Our coach and trainer, Daniel, is awesome. He not only is a good motivator (the yelling actually helps), but is really knowledgeable when it comes to the movements, improving your technique, and also nutrition, which I was not expecting, but it turns out to be one of the most helpful things I have learned here. I love how CF Dare puts more emphasis on the movements and becoming a more fit and healthy athlete overall rather than just focusing on weight loss. It really changed my perspective on why I choose to work and when you're well educated on the movements in addition to good/clean eating, the weight loss just comes as an added bonus. In addition to all of that, the facility here is well-kept, stocked, clean, and management here is great. Signing up for classes is easy and classes are small (no more than 15 per class), which is a huge plus, I've heard some CrossFit gyms have classes of 40+ people, which is just too crazy. The people here are great, and the community is friendly and fun. And the events they hold are always fun, they'll have the occasional BBQ and "Bring a Buddy Day" where you can bring a guest to come work out with you. Plenty of parking, and lots of classes available in the morning, evening, and weekends, and they have their own Vita Coco fridge thats always stocked (whoo hoooo). I absolutely love coming here. I was hesitant to join at first because I was so out of shape and I could barely run a mile! When I first started, I was slow and lacked endurance. I struggled with basic movements like push ups, pull ups and squats and running. I was still determined to lose the extra weight and get fit, so I stuck with it. The staff understood my goals and was so friendly and helpful every step of the way. With the help of crossfit dare, I have lost 2 pants sizes and 15 lbs. I can now run a mile and do my daily workouts to the end. I have definitely come a long way and I have crossfit dare to thank. I've been going to this gym for 2 1/2 months now and I love it. I got hooked from the very first day I attended, which was a free trial Saturday called "Bring a buddy day". I love that the focus is on improving each of us that attend (including our diets) and not on getting people to sign up or extend memberships. Not once have any of the CF Dare team asked me to start or renew my membership... they just left it up to me to decide. Even after the first trial day, there was absolutely no pressure to sign up... the best thing I learned that day was the team building atmosphere they create to motivate each other during the exercise. When you're a member here, you pay monthly and you can come to as many sessions as you want. I think it's pretty awesome that they will make sure to contact you if you start slacking off and NOT showing up... Mike and Daniel (the coaches) are very good motivators. My strength, flexibility, and endurance are noticeably much better and I didn't hesitate to extend my membership for 6 months because I know I have so much more to improve on. They give us so much personal attention even as more and more people join and I am definitely proud to be a member of Crossfit Dare. If you are serious about getting fit and trying to reach optimal fitness, this is the place to go! I was a regular gym goer paying membership to those corporate chains who would workout 3 to 4 times per week (if that). The many things I didn't like about regular gyms were the sweaty equipment, or lack of equipment, overcrowding/fighting for a machine/looking for that 25lb dumbell but that meat head next to me was hogging it, and the whole macho/bravado mentality especially in the weight room portion of the gym. These reasons discouraged me from maintaining a regular attendance. I decided to try Crossfit because it was something different and broke the monotony of going to the regular corporate gym. Being new to Crossfit, Coach Daniel was very patient and thorough in explaining the basic movements and demonstrating proper technique. The ramp-up classes for new members were a good introduction to all the basic lifting movements and workouts. Whenever I had a question or was uncertain about the proper mechanics, Coach Daniel clarified everything and ensured that I was working out safely. At the start of each class, Coach Daniel always asks how everyone is feeling, anyone sore, how are we eating. He takes his job seriously and it shows in how he treats the members by caring for their well-being, whether it's physical or mental. The class times offered can cater to all people with different schedules: morning, afternoons, and evenings. It's flexible because if I can't make it to my 5pm class, I can easily sign up for a morning class. Class sizes are usually small from anywhere between 5-10 members, which is great because each member gets focused attention from Coach Daniel during a workout. All the members are friendly, welcoming, and supportive especially at the end of a tough and grueling workout. Everyone leaves their ego at the door and comes in to sweat, improve, get stronger, and most importantly, have fun. I wouldn't be in my third year of doing Crossfit if I didn't enjoy coming to class. Joining Crossfit Dare has been one of the best decisions I've ever made. I've been playing sports all my life yet just one year here has brought me to the best shape of my life. He is constanly vigilant in accommodating each individuals injury or possible injuries during workouts. Coach Daniel is not only certified in Crossfit, but has a college degree in kinesiology. The man knows what he's talking about. He has answers to all your fitness/health questions and in the off chance he doesn't know the answer, he won't make up some BS like some people might do in order to sound intelligent. Coach not only talks about the workouts, but your diet, sleep pattern, basically you have a personal trainer everyday you attend. You start off in "ramp up" classes for two weeks where you are introduced to what Crossfit is, the movements involved in the workouts, and the basic structure of the classes. Once you complete this, you can attend as many classes as you'd like (if your body/motivation is willing). The classes are "only" an hour long, but some of the workouts will push you to your limits and feel like an eternity. However, the weights and movements are scalable to meet your needs so you can complete the WOD (workout of the day). This is the best part of crossfit; it's for EVERYONE. The intensity and results are determined only by the effort you put into each workout. The coach and fellow members cheer you on and motivate you to push harder; all the while correcting your form and guiding you as not to hurt yourself. Once you become a crossfitter, you'll find yourself using the crossfit lingo, thinking about the next WOD, set goals you've never even thought of setting, wanting to introduce everyone you meet to crossfit, and relating to other crossfitters out there. I've already surpassed benchmarks unimaginable before I started crossfit, and even joined the Crossfit Open this year. The ONE thing that you won't get from any other gym is the personal care, motivation, and encouragement that the staff at CFD has to offer. They are genuinely interested in the people rather than a simple trending program. I initially started crossfit because I was looking for a significant change in my daily routine. I had not worked out a day in my life before, and the thought of suddenly devoting 2-3 hours of my day to exercise was daunting to say the least. "Can I do this? Am I going to hurt myself going here? Will I feel ashamed of my physique or performance?" This was honestly all I thought about leading up to my first meeting at Crossfit Dare. Thankfully, my first meeting ended on an extremely uplifting and positive note, with the trainer (Daniel) assuring me that he will work with me to answer any and all questions and concerns that I may have going into Crossfit. I'm now just over 6 months in and am down 33lbs. My eating habits are significantly better and my confidence is at an all time high, which really is a gratifying feeling. I never thought that spending an hour or so working out with good people could improve my attitude about myself so much, and that is only possible because of Daniel's willingness to go over every single movement and really listen to how those movements make you feel, no matter how small or insignificant they may seem. This review is long over due, but it has to be written. CrossFit DARE is one of the best gym's and communities I have experienced. People cheer you on during your daily exercises when you seem exhausted or feel like quitting, lol. You engage in community events, such as 2-3 mile hikes, lunch or dinner outings, BBQs, and other fun activities. The Coach here builds trust with members to establish a strong relationship to help improve there health and wellness. "CrossFit coaches need to be able to teach the fundamentals of powerlifting, Olympic weightlifting, rudimentary gymnastic skills, as well as endurance sports" (Inside The Affiliate, 2014). Coach Daniel has the knowledge for all of CrossFit's complex movements, is persistent in your correct form and movements, and cares about your eating habits. With that said, CrossFit DARE pushes my limits and challenges me to work harder every day. It motivates and teaches me that I can do more than I ever thought possible.
