Great response over the weekend along with my dog's appoint. Dr Eileen Balz was the veterinarian, she was so wonderful w me and most importantly my dog. Such a comforting feeling as she reviewed the care and medication plan along with follow up. The Vet Tech, office staff, Dominique and Lois ( office Manager) were as helpful and caring. Fully recommend DAH and if you can't get in that day, they will give you instructions on getting the next available appointment.. thanks to all Blaire is feeling so much better even after her 2nd treatments tonight. read more

I get it that it is a business but they would rather your pet die than offer you a payment plan for major unexpected emergencies where funds are tight during a pandemic. They just tell you to go somewhere else Well. The dog they didn't want to see suffered for another day. We ended up finding a 24 hour vet that would see him. Turns out he had cancer and it was all over. As we weren't selfishly going to put an 11 year old through chemo, we made the choice to let him end his pain... RIP Bubba. We love you. read more

Took my dog in for her annual check up on Friday and asked to make sure they trimmed her nails as they have every visit I have taken her in the past five years. Also I had my dog there in April for an exam on her gums and her doctor told me that she gave her a complete exam while she was there, one week later she had an anal gland explode! This being her annual exam and past history of the anal sack issue, I asked them to make sure they were expressed. I was not told beforehand that there was an extra charge to do this and I was also told that is something they do not check on an annual exam, even with the past history of having problems with her anal gland. I was billed $19.55 to trim her nails which takes a total of 60 seconds, and as I have said they have done it for free for five years, now all of a sudden there is a charge, I guess this must be a COVID-19 surcharge to make a few extra dollars. I was also billed $31.29 for expressing her anal glands, that again I was never told there was an extra charge to do this with her history of anal gland problems. after the services were done and the dog was sent out to me I saw these charges on the invoice was never told about them before hand, I spoke to Dr. McGinley and she agreed with me that I should have not been charged this time because I was never told about it! and today I had to call them because they did not return my call and I spoke to an office manager named Lynn, who told me her boss Veronica told her I had to pay these charges regardless that I did not know! Basically too bad for me, you have to pay. I also brought my mothers cat here two years ago, the cat could not urinate they kept the cat overnight took $800 of my money told me the cat would be fine I took the cat home the cat died two days later! In this day and age with all that's going on to be processed price gouged by people that are supposed to care for your animals is absurd obviously all they care about is money! Think twice before you use this vet!!! read more

I am very sad to say that my former favorite and loving veterinary care is, in my opinion, not available to me at DAH. I was a client for over 15 years throughout the lives of my kitties and doggies ever since I relocated my family to Danvers. I was always very happy and felt that DAH cared for my pets' health. I am no longer a client after 3 successive incredibly awful, separate, and unrelated events when 3 of my loved pets suffered. I do not believe anyone at DAH wished to harm rather than help. They are imperfect humans trying to do their best. Yet, there were, in my opinion, tragic mistakes in decision making and I must do what I think best for my family. I am now in the process of transitioning to another veterinarian. I hope my recent experiences are a terrible coincidence and not an indication of DAH future in our community. read more

Updated 11/13/18. I think they have stepped up their front desk staff in the last couple of years. All of the staff I dealt with in the past are now gone and those I now deal with are compassionate, personable and on their game. I want to call out one employee, Lois, who I have had the pleasure of dealing with on multiple occasions regarding my dogs' issue with Lyme disease and some of the negative side effects it can have. Lois answers phones and also mans the front desk and is extraordinary with regard to attention to detail. She has my MVP vote and is the primary reason I am upgrading my review. She takes the time to understand what issue or concern you may have when you call, she takes actions to consult with the vets on your behalf and she will call you back with feedback you may need to make a decision regarding care or examination. What more can you ask for? P.s. Just found out they have used cat and small pet carriers that have been donated that you can buy with a $10.00 donation. Lois happened to be the person who took my call inquiring about the carriers and took the time to put one aside for me that was just the right fit I needed to hold two cats without me even asking her to do that! read more

During a stressful situation where my small dog was turned away from our own vet and from Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital, the staff at Danvers Animal Hospital certainly took care of us in a professional, friendly and caring manner. They fit us in right away, assessed my dog's issues and performed necessary X-rays to determine her problem and prescribed medications. One month ago my cat, Lily, died from a vaccine induced sarcoma that she received from this hospital. This is incredibly common in cats and at the time she got her vaccines I was unaware of this. The information was never shared to me and I was never asked if I wanted her to have a 3 year rabies vaccine before it was given. I thought perhaps this is new scientific information to the veterinarian community but have since learned it is not. Had the vets at the time educated me (or themselves) on my options or placed the vaccine in a different location Lily would still be alive today. PLEASE ask your vets what vaccines are given. Opt for 1 year rabies and NEVER 3 year if it can be avoided. If nasal injections are an option (like for distemper) you may want to use that instead of a traditional injection. And ALWAYS ask where they inject the vaccines (Hind legs are best for survival odds). Lastly, Ask lots of questions even if they sound silly and ask multiple vets. read more

The service at Danvers has been going downhill for a while. Things people should be aware of. 1. No multi pet discount and their prices are high. We have 4 dogs and I am shocked how much money we have spent with them. 2. This is the big one. Danvers has no on call vet after hours. If your pet has surgery and that evening you have questions or problems you should be able to reach an on call vet - not be sent to Bulger Animal Hospital where they don't have the history on the animal or the information on the procedure. 3. If you have a problem with their service they don't really care about keeping you happy. They are a corporation that just cares about money. 4. Phone is always busy and wait times are getting longer and longer. read more

Most recently we took in our cat that had 2 prior bowel impactions. We were not that hopeful of what they could do or how much it might cost. We waited about an hour, but we had only called ahead that morning, so practically walk-ins. They did have our cat's prior history there, so we had that going for us. We were brought into an exam room and after checking our cat's weight, they were with us in 20 min. We were greeted warmly by Dr. Blakely. She took time to take a quick history, give our cat some TLC, do a physical exam, and then she laid out our options. We asked about cost and she promptly returned with a clearly detailed list of procedures and costs for each option. We decided on a cost option that was affordable for us, and when our cat had to stay with them for the day she kept us informed of his progress. We picked him up at the end of the day with a plan that if he did not improve we would return for additional procedures. He has recovered, I think after the great care provided, and he's now a healthier and happier kitty. The staff were equally kind and also efficient with their services. For almost 17 years, Dr.'s Pelletier, Teague and Myers have taken care of my cat. He was the most beloved individual of my life. In all that time, he received nothing less than exceptional, quality care. They were always attentive to his needs and he was treated with great consideration and respect. When the time came, they managed his passing with extraordinary concern, empathy and gentle kindness. I can not write enough positive adjectives to describe the Doctors and staff of this outstanding medical facility. Most don't realize the tremendous stress that people who work in veterinary medicine are under. They care for both pets and people and deal with a rollercoaster of human emotions. No establishment handles these challenges better than the D.A.H. Lastly, and I mean this with all sincerity. If I were dying, I'd wish to go to the D.A.H. I know without question, that in my final conscious moments and as I took my last breaths, I'd be treated with compassion, sincere caring and kindness. I would be surrounded with love and friendship. We've been taking our 2 year old Shih Tzu here for his entire life. I will say they've never been the friendliest bunch, but always helped take care of him and give us the information we needed. However, we took our dog in this past weekend on an emergency basis due to vomiting. The dog doesn't love the vet. He can become very skiddish and aggressive. They know this, it's been in his record since day 1. We see a Dr. at this visit who we haven't met before. He seems nice enough. Wants to examine the dog, but knows he needs to get muzzle on him due to his behavior. We try but the dog isn't having it. Essentially, the Dr tells me he can't examine the dog and here's some Pepcid, call if nothing changes. Mind you we get charged 70 bucks for no exam and Pepcid. The next day Caesar is still vomiting, I call back and inform the dr and he tells me that he wants to see him tomorrow at 845. I explain that it isn't possible due to my work schedule. He very rudely and passive aggressively tells me "well then how can I help you". To which I told him he apparently couldn't and hung up. Only for him to call me and my husband back 5 times leaving voicemails trying to be polite. If you aren't interested in helping animals or treating them or their owners with respect, you picked the wrong job. I will say we thankfully took Caesar to Bulger Animal Hospital in North Andover, and met a vet who not only took Caesar on a stroll around the hospital to help him relax, but also successfully examined him and prescribed medication for an infection and his stomach issue. They also prescribed us a lite sedative to help him at future vet visits. Very long story short - take your pet to a place interested in their well being. read more

I will not ever board my dog here again and I wouldn't recommend that you do either. Here's why: We got our dog from Northeast Animal Shelter a few months ago and had him checked out by the vet they recommended. He had all of his shots updated, was cleared for all of the usual suspects - fleas/ticks/stool issues, etc. Our vet faxed over the clearance and medical records so that we could board him while we were away. We called a few days into our trip to see how he was doing as it was our first time leaving him and they said he "wasn't the kind of dog that should be boarded" but they never explained what that meant. He's normally a very loving and affectionate dog and we give him a ton of attention, so maybe he just wasn't used to being cooped up in a room and only let out 3x a day for 10 minutes at a time. They said they weren't full and didn't have many other dogs to board, but somehow a day or two later, he ended up with "kennel cough" for which they treated him. So rather than a $175 cost to board him, it turned into over $300 by the time they treated him for something he didn't even come in there with. We called our own vet when we got him home and they said they had him on too high a dosage of antibiotics given his weight so we needed to cut it back and that he should be feeling better in a few days. Danvers came highly recommended by a personal acquaintance but after this experience, I will not EVER board an animal here again. EVER. Spend the extra money to leave your pet in a private home where they'll get the care and attention they need versus leaving them in a dirty crate for 23.5 hours a day. read more

How to loose two stars and a client...... Recently brought my dog here to get a check up. During the examination I pointed out to the vet that my dog had some flakes of dander in his coat that I noticed during his grooming which I pointed out during the examination. The vet said to use an oatmeal soap which I already picked up prior to the exam. I left it as dry skin due to his first winter in the New England. Fast forward to today, I finally got around to giving the pooch his bi-annual haircut. While hand stripping him I noticed he had more dander and little black dots all on his scalp. FLEAS. FML! This explained the source of the dander which was really dead skin from the flea bites which looked pretty back after cutting his hair. I spent most of my Sunday running around town buying product to remedy this situation. I am at a lost for words that an experienced vet could have missed something so obvious. This is a dangerous condition for a small dog of his size. Thinking back, I never received a phone call following up on the status of my dog's blood work. I have never experienced anything like this with any of the other five clinics I have taken my dog to over the past eight years. In 2015 I went here with my new born kitten miracle whom was born with her intestine on the outside of her belly. I called Danvers Animal hospital and while on the phone they told my wife to cut it for it was the umbilical cord. I freaked out when I heard that as my wife went to grab scissors and said ABSOLUTELY DO NOT DO WHAT THAT WOMAN JUST STATED YOU WILL KILL THAT LITTLE BABY THAT IS NOT HER CORD ITS HER STOMACH. Instead I carried kitten to car along with my wife and drove to Danvers animal hospital. Once we arrived I spoke to the doctor whom said to cut my kittens stomach out. She said oh that cats dead, I said no ma'am look at her little chest she's breating its going up and down. The doctor said oh wow it is let's fix her for you it will cost $1900. I was desperate and pulled out my credit card. Before she even took the poor kitten in the back to save her life she slipped the card to insure I had the money, it obviously worked and she said ok ill be back. 1 min later no lie I got my kitten back no longer breathing and with her stomach just pushed back inside her and glued. I looked at the doctor and freaked out I said what could you have done in one minute. She said I told you the kitten was dead. Then she said well maybe it's the Anastasia why she's not moving and to take her home and she will wake up soon. I carried that little kitten all day and slept with her all night clinging on to hope she would look up at me and I would feel whole again. That did not happen, I woke up and my kitten was stiff and cold and it shattered my heart. Look at me, every year I tried to get on here and leave a review and I was blocked by yelp and my original reviews with pictures and the bill was immediately removed. I hate you lowlifes and you should be disbarred from ever touching a beautiful innocent animal ever in life. That should have been you doctor that day not the kitten, shame on you for stealing people's money who are clinging on to hope and love for their animal that is family. You use peoples emotions to weasel money out of them and could give a cral less about the results. I hope that 1 min was worth the $1900 because God will get you for killing its creatures. Let me be more clear than I was on my Facebook post about Danvers Animal Hospital. My 13 year old Chihuahua had all but 4 teeth removed in 2019. It was a great experience. The vet at the time was compassionate, thorough, warm and knowledgeable. Leea has liver problems, always has, so surgery has always been a small risk. The doctor made me feel very comfortable with our plan of action and Leea was like a new dog once her teeth were removed. Forward to now, 2021. Leea needs more dental work and I had a visit with Dr. Teague In that room for 1/2 hour I felt criticized for my Chihuauas "learned behavior " because she didn't want to be man handled by Dr. Teague. I reminded him several times that she's a Chihuahua, she's 13 and I was there with concerns any 13 year old dog might have. Any way, we did not click. AT ALL. I waited three days for results from him and that was not my experience in 2019. I also got a scolding about being social on my social media account about my experience. This isn't 1990. Social media is very beneficial these days. Our voices get to be heard. Anyway, he tried to ship me off to another clinic if I was so unhappy but I calmly let him know that I'm not unhappy with the hospital at all, just with him. I don't want him anywhere near my dog again. You know the saying, if your dog doesn't like someone, you probably shouldn't either? Yeah! That! The front desk was kind, and every doctor I've seen there has been amazing, or I wouldn't have been back. Dr. Teague, we did not click. It doesn't make you a bad fit for the hospital, it only makes you a bad fit for my Chihuahua and me. You handled my dog like you've never handled a Chihuahua ever.... This is a red flag to current or future patients concerning one of their Vets, Dr. Teague. We unfortunately lost our beloved 12 yr. old Cocker Spaniel in December due to an uncaring, mis-diagnosis and a general all around failure to confer with colleagues on our dog's condition even with a video we presented of her condition.. After one year of ineffective treatment we had the Vets at another hospital exam and view the video that we had and they were able to diagnose her on the 1st visit with acid reflux. With the proper treatment our dog was 75% better within 1 week! But within the course of the year trying to wean her off some of the medications her cough symptoms came back in a vengeance with much inflammation in the esophagus that only could be controlled with higher doses of steroids. In the course of the year from Dec. 2018 to Nov. 2019 Our dog was prescribed 4 different ANTIOBIOTICS from Dr. Teague. We continually expressed our frustration with no results only expressing a CURT tone to us. At that time we had a discussion with the owner of the practice about our concerns of our dogs treatment and the curt attitude of Dr.Teague response to us was that he was so sorry that we FAILED you and especially your dog! Dr. Teague had treated our dog with no problems for the first 10 years of her life. Which was shocking to us that he would treat us and especially our dog this way! We look to our Vets and trust our Vets with the outmost faith that they are making the right decisions on treatments for our pets. We feel that our beautiful dog was "robbed" of a few more years of quality life! read more

This is a really great vet clinic. Everyone here is super kind and compassionate, and the overall experience is one that I recommend. The staff love my cat and treat her very well. The wait time isn't very long, which is always good when you have a cat who gets nervous around weird sounds and other animals. My two dogs are new patients here because we've recently moved to the area. We moved from an area where we had a fantastic vet, so we were nervous about finding a new one. DAH was suggested to us by a number of locals and we're so glad they did. Our dogs had a fantastic yearly check-up and then went in to have their teeth cleaned (an all day job that involves anesthesia). Both of these visits were great and we couldn't have been more pleased. The facility is beautiful and clean. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive - fast to answer questions and to be of as much help as possible. This is an awesome vet office and they now have customers for life.
