I drove one hour to check out Dan's clam stand. I ordered a ($41.99) 1 pound lobster roll to bring home for my wife to eat. I had a whole Billy clam appetizer while I waited. The lobster roll was delivered to my table in a bag with a container of coleslaw. I placed it in my cooler and drove the hour back home. When I took it out of the bag it seemed a little light, so I decided to weigh it. Well, it weighed out at 9.45 ounces. (Hotdog roll, lobster meat, celery, lettuce, and mayo.) I placed a call to Dan's clam stand, and when I told the person on the phone, my complaint there was silence on the other end. I asked if anyone was there, and she answered me finally. She asked for my name and phone number and said a manager would call me right back. That was 24 hours ago. I've given them plenty of time to call me back and address my concerns. So unfortunately, I have to leave this one star review. I'm sure not many people bring a kitchen scale to a restaurant with them to verify the weight of their food that they pay for by weight. You might want to think to bring one next time you eat at Dan's clan So you can make sure you get what you pay for. I certainly did not.

Husband and I wanted seafood for dinner so we revisited Dan's in Crystal River. His seafood is so fresh and they give you such generous portions. No missing this place, love that Tiki Hut gazebo right smack in the front of the restaurant if you like outside dining. At night, it is all lit up with lights! What a great Florida vibe! When you enter, you see all kinds of Florida decor and a really cool fish tank. On one side of the restaurant, all wooden booths and a few tables, small bar with high top chairs for your consideration. Other side and in the back are tables and more wooden booths and a very large table for big groups. Got seated, our waitress was so pleasant and greeting. Placed our order, huge menu with great selections to choose from. Prices are much the going rate. Our food came to us in a timely fashion hot and made to order. I ordered the Colossal shrimp with dinner portion of onion rings. I love the red shrimp, I think they are sweeter. Delicious shrimp and cooked perfectly, batter excellent. The onion rings are the best bar non, sweet onions, great batter, melt in your mouth with great remoulade dipping sauce. I enjoyed my dinner very much. Husband ordered Cod fish and chips with coleslaw, generous portion and he enjoyed his dinner as well. I highly recommend Dan's Clam shack, he has a cult following and popular with the locals. I truly love this place...from the Clams with Bellies, the Tempura Colossal Shrimp to what I had today....service is always excellent? Sue never disappoints or any of the others either....food served fresh and in a timely manner too...today I ordered the Colossal Blackened Shrimp with Pilaf and Cole Slaw ...delicious and plump and so flavorful...such a great menu with lots of choices as well....

I found myself in the mood for seafood and stop by Dan's clam stand for the first time. The staff promptly greeted me and, encouraged me to have a seat anywhere. Cady patiently answered a few questions and guided me to the haddock fish and chips. She explained that they hand bread their own onion rings for a nominal up charge. I substituted that instead of fries. It quickly arrived, and was piping hot. The huge portion of fish was perfectly battered and fried along with the onion rings. It also came with coleslaw and tartar sauce. Cady kindly brought me some more vinegar. The haddock was flaky and tender, and had great flavor, my only suggestion would be adding a little bit more salt to the batter. The onion rings were a definite upgrade and satisfied my craving. I was very surprised with a very tasty coleslaw. It was one of the best I've had lately. While Dan's lacks the waterfront views of its competitors in the area, it outshines them with a very extensive menu, great portions, and is budget friendly for the seafood lover.

This place is the pits. Fast food, over priced and inexperienced food servers. Crap soup tastes like it came out of a can.

At the end of the night as we're getting ready to go back home, we went back for one last drink. We both presented valid, unexpired South Carolina driver's licenses that were genuine and in good condition. At the door, the bouncer told us they don't typically accept South Carolina IDs, but ultimately allowed us inside. When we went to order drinks, the bartender refused to serve us, claiming our IDs had "scanned as fake." When we questioned that, we were then told they didn't actually have an ID scanner. We even offered to have local law enforcement verify that our IDs were legitimate, but they still refused to serve us. We completely understand the importance of checking IDs and appreciate that businesses have to be cautious. However, being given conflicting explanations and feeling like our valid out of state IDs were dismissed without a legitimate verification process was frustrating and embarrassing. If there is an official policy regarding South Carolina IDs, it should be clearly communicated. If there isn't, I hope management addresses this so other visitors with valid out of state identification don't have the same experience.

The service was the highlight of the visit--the bartenders were genuinely friendly, attentive, and made me feel welcome. That's the main reason I'm giving this place two stars. The food, however, was disappointing. I ordered my burger medium, but it arrived raw in the center. The onion rings were overly greasy with a heavy, unimpressive batter. After reading other reviews, I noticed someone else had a similar experience with the patty melt, so my meal may not have been an isolated issue. The atmosphere wasn't for me either. It feels much more like a neighborhood dive bar than a restaurant, with multiple TVs, loud music, constant chatter, and live entertainment outside all competing at once. If you're looking for a lively sports bar where you can watch a game, have a drink, and socialize, this may be exactly what you're after. I prefer a quieter, more relaxed dining experience, so it simply wasn't a good fit. The restaurant also has a dog-friendly patio, which many people enjoy, though it's not something I personally look for when dining out. Overall, I think Norton's has a loyal local following, and I can understand why some people enjoy the casual bar atmosphere. For me, though, the combination of the underwhelming food and the very loud environment means I won't be returning. The staff deserved better than the meal they were serving, because their friendliness and service were the best part of the visit.
