This used to be one of our Favorite Seafood restaurants. Not anymore. Let me be very clear. The food has changed completely from the original recipes from the original owners. It's not the same quality or tastes. Let us go down memory lane here & revisit our last conversation, we had with you all there, last visits. You told us the story that the new owner was so dedicated to keeping the recipes the same, that they offered the one person a higher salary to stay on, because they were the ONLY person that knew how to make the original Clam Chowder, that everyone loved. You told us to our faces, my husband & I, that he was the only person that knew how to make the Clam chowder & you KNEW that you all had a LOYAL CUSTOMER BASE & FOLLOWING that loved your food & you were NEVER going to change the recipes. You told us you offered the man a bigger salary to stay on. You assured us the new owner wasn't going to change the recipes, just give the place "a makeover." We drove hours to get to Dan's on Saturday. We get there & there is a new sign out-front, its super cute, the building is painted very cute, looks like a super cute little Maine lobster shack in New England somewhere you would visit on Vacation. Now, the Local Florida vibes & charm, all gone. Asked for Tabasco & you don't even have any. In a southern Seafood Restaurant. Insanity. We order our usual Haddock sammy's, fries & Fried oyster app. The fried oysters batter is different, it's sweet. The two sauces on the side are different. Tastes like bottled Miracle whip & sweet cocktail sauce with no horseradish at all. Both sauces are HORRIBLE. The haddock batter is different. It's sweet & doesn't stick to the fish. (see photos) It's just falling apart all over the place b4 we could even attempt to eat them. Both our Sammy's a complete sweet mess, and not in a good way. The fries are some kind of GIANT hand cut fries that are undercooked. The bun, is a cheap bun like from walmart. No side of cole slaw nothing. I'm also not sure why your Haddock sandwiches and fries are $25 bucks each, double the price as "Gaby's" in Clearwater, Florida. I have posted many photos of their Haddock Sandwich's also, and not only are theirs half the price at $12.99, theirs are twice as big served on a cornmeal crusted bun WITH cole slaw. Math doesn't add up. Your haddock is overpriced and/or you cannot do simple math. OuiOui. Now that you have wrecked the food we will be eating The Haddock sammy's at Gaby's in Clearwater, Florida from now on. I have now taken you off all my Favorite restaurants lists & added "Dan's" to the "Worst food of our lives lists." Congratulations on your gentrification of what used to be one of our favorite seafood restaurants. You wrecked it, the food sucks. But, great paint job, it looks so cute. We stopped at this place because it looked like a great spot to grab some seafood. It had the look of a beach shack and had a cute outdoor covered porch area, which is where we sat. They had a fair amount of GF foods and the server told me I could get most things GF! That was so awesome to me! The server was super friendly and really a sweet person! I don't remember her name, but she had a red flower in her hair! The food rocked, atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for and the service was great! The lobster was chewy and rubbery. My boyfriend and I both ordered 2 lobsters and they were extremely tough to eat and overcooked. The waitstaff virtually ignored us and paid more attention to a larger table. No refills on our sodas. I drove one hour to check out Dan's clam stand. I ordered a ($41.99) 1 pound lobster roll to bring home for my wife to eat. I had a whole Billy clam appetizer while I waited. The lobster roll was delivered to my table in a bag with a container of coleslaw. I placed it in my cooler and drove the hour back home. When I took it out of the bag it seemed a little light, so I decided to weigh it. Well, it weighed out at 9.45 ounces. (Hotdog roll, lobster meat, celery, lettuce, and mayo.) I placed a call to Dan's clam stand, and when I told the person on the phone, my complaint there was silence on the other end. I asked if anyone was there, and she answered me finally. She asked for my name and phone number and said a manager would call me right back. That was 24 hours ago. I've given them plenty of time to call me back and address my concerns. So unfortunately, I have to leave this one star review. I'm sure not many people bring a kitchen scale to a restaurant with them to verify the weight of their food that they pay for by weight. You might want to think to bring one next time you eat at Dan's clan So you can make sure you get what you pay for. I certainly did not. read more

Husband and I wanted seafood for dinner so we revisited Dan's in Crystal River. His seafood is so fresh and they give you such generous portions. No missing this place, love that Tiki Hut gazebo right smack in the front of the restaurant if you like outside dining. At night, it is all lit up with lights! What a great Florida vibe! When you enter, you see all kinds of Florida decor and a really cool fish tank. On one side of the restaurant, all wooden booths and a few tables, small bar with high top chairs for your consideration. Other side and in the back are tables and more wooden booths and a very large table for big groups. Got seated, our waitress was so pleasant and greeting. Placed our order, huge menu with great selections to choose from. Prices are much the going rate. Our food came to us in a timely fashion hot and made to order. I ordered the Colossal shrimp with dinner portion of onion rings. I love the red shrimp, I think they are sweeter. Delicious shrimp and cooked perfectly, batter excellent. The onion rings are the best bar non, sweet onions, great batter, melt in your mouth with great remoulade dipping sauce. I enjoyed my dinner very much. Husband ordered Cod fish and chips with coleslaw, generous portion and he enjoyed his dinner as well. I highly recommend Dan's Clam shack, he has a cult following and popular with the locals. I found myself in the mood for seafood and stop by Dan's clam stand for the first time. The staff promptly greeted me and, encouraged me to have a seat anywhere. Cady patiently answered a few questions and guided me to the haddock fish and chips. She explained that they hand bread their own onion rings for a nominal up charge. I substituted that instead of fries. It quickly arrived, and was piping hot. The huge portion of fish was perfectly battered and fried along with the onion rings. It also came with coleslaw and tartar sauce. Cady kindly brought me some more vinegar. The haddock was flaky and tender, and had great flavor, my only suggestion would be adding a little bit more salt to the batter. The onion rings were a definite upgrade and satisfied my craving. I was very surprised with a very tasty coleslaw. It was one of the best I've had lately. While Dan's lacks the waterfront views of its competitors in the area, it outshines them with a very extensive menu, great portions, and is budget friendly for the seafood lover. read more

It was hard to tell what the food and service would be like from the outside. It was very casual and comfortable inside. My friends said that this was one of their favorite seafood restaurants. We were thrilled to find a table for seven on Mother's Day. The service was over the top excellent because the server was so attentive that we did not have to ask for any refills or anything. I was surprised to find they had Halibut on the menu. Being from Seattle I was a little weary of ordering it, but it is my favorite fish. I ordered it blackened and I was not disappointed. It had the perfect amount of seasoning that did not distract from the flaky, delicate fish. The entire table was very pleased with the variety of menu items they ordered. We have been eating at Dans Clam stand for decades, had no complaints, and have sent many a friend there because the food was good ,but today (Fathers Day) the shrimp was horrible. The breading has been changed to some nasty breading and they were over cooked and rubbery, not worth even trying to chew them to eat. The only thing that was worth eating, and was good, was the cup of chowder that each of us had. Our party of 4 who ordered shrimp cost more than $130. none of us ate more than a couple of shrimp. If I had to guess I would say they hired someone who does not know how to cook, and to save money they resorted to buying cheaper products to cook with. Very dissappointed the food was horrible ! I have not decided if I will give them another chance or not, but if I do and it is bad gain I will never return and will tell everyone we know not to go there anymore. If this continues they will end up putting themselves out of business without any help from us, right now they are thier own worst enemy. read more

This place used to be our place to go to when we wanted to treat ourselves. Not anymore. $23. For a rubber grouper sandwich that was less than a half inch thick and was hidden inside an Aldi bun. I've had "fast food" sandwiches that were much better and 1/4 the price. Onion rings were different. Batter was not as good as it used to be and don't look like they were hand made. Great quality very fresh seafood. Portions of most teams are large and everything is very delicately fried. The only downside is that the owners are probably from somewhere like Pennsylvania because there isn't the first grain of seasoning of any sort anywhere in the place. Not even salt. That said, albeit bland as hell, it's really good and is a great way to finish off a day of manatees in Crystal River before heading out of town as nobody around Orlando or the rest of central florida can fry seafood like these guys. We particularly liked the fried scallops and wished we had ordered more. If these guys ever invest in a can of Tony Chachere's for their kitchen, that 4-star review would jump to a solid 5 stars! read more

We arrived to Dans clam stand after fishing in crystal river, my husband said that looks good turn around! I was like ok! Lol we had 5 people two adults and three children, we were seated quickly, the waitress was super friendly and we had our dog with us. We ate outside on the patio. We had fried shrimp, (my son loved it) , salad, onion rings (they are amazing), and the kids chicken nuggets. In addition we had the fisherman's platter and a Caesar salad with fried chicken. I would say, the salad would have been better if it was cut up a little more but ALL of the food was really good. The waitress brought our pup a bowl of water with ice, and our drinks. The food came out shortly after. At the end of the night, we needed to use the bathroom but they had already began mopping so they said we couldn't.
