I'll start off by saying that Danny Osti does a good job, and prides himself on being among the most expensive. My family had been loyal clients of his company. However, recently, with the wind damage, he's been a bit arrogant and made it clear that he doesn't need the residential/neighborhood business. So after doing some research, we got a company who was licensed and insured to do my home at less than 50% of the price quoted by Danny Osti. They did a good job; "almost" as good as Osti Tree Service (like I said before, he does a very good job), but hey, we saved $800. Simply the best. Yes, Danny is a little more expensive than some others, but you have to take a look at what he is providing. He carries full liability insurance for both your property and his workers. Most other tree services don't. He pays a living wage and benefits, and his workers are all documented and legal. That's not true of most services. He cares about his employees, and it shows in how they treat the customers. We called Danny to come trim 3 very tall palm trees. Before he started, he went to the neighboring yards and put up protective plywood and tarps, just in cast the fronds were blown over into their property. While he was here, he also trimmed back 2 other trees so they were off our roof, and pruned an olive tree and a pepper tree. The crew did a full a clean-up of the job site, so that it looked better than when they started. In addition to all of that, his crew removed several bags and piles of yard waste from some of our own previous yard projects, just as a courtesy. Danny Osti may quote you a price that is a little higher than some others, but for what he provides, we consider it a huge value. He has earned our business for life. read more

In regards to the prior post about and attitude. Danny has taken care of the trees in Sierra Madre and surrounding towns and at my house for 40 years. His employees have benefits that are unheard of in L.A..He takes care of his staff and their families. If you took his remarks about not needed smaller jobs as bragging, I can assure you they are not. Danny is VERY humble, in my opinion, comments on not needed the smaller jobs he means to convey that he loves Sierra Madre and the residents and that he does what he does because of the caring and love, not for his bottom line. He wants you to know that he still does these smaller jobs so we can have the best service and cares that the towns trees and homes are cared for. He is the best, takes care of his employees and cares. If you would rather have less of a job done and have employees that may not be paying taxes and may be making only minimum wage, then go ahead and take a chance on another service, that's what the free market is for. If you would rather have the best and the most caring man that gives of his time and cares, then Danny Osti Tree Service is the only way to go. He knows his trees and can increase that longevity of your valuable landscape with his knowledge. My wife and I live in Sierra Madre. We've hired Danny Osti Tree Service several times since 1999. I'll echo the prior reviews - The Ostis do a great job! We've had them trim our avocado, chinaberry, citrus. We even "adopted" the parkway magnolia (Danny pulled the permit) and the work was beautiful. We've lived in Sierra Madre since 1993. Though that still makes us transients in the eyes of the old-timers, Danny Osti and his crew have taken expert and beautiful care of our trees all these years. This isn't a simple matter: we have a huge oak, two ancient and looming avocados, and a trio of ficus trees that grow like, well yeah, weeds. There have also been a couple of trees that needed to come out: a misplaced cypress, and a liquidambar that lost the will to live and crashed down at 2 am, cracking a large limb of the oak and sounding as close to WTF as you'd ever hope to hear. In every case Danny's crew has done the best possible job. They arrive when they say they will, do artistic and attractive work--even cutting carefully around the huge Banksia rose that snakes through the oak--and do a surgical cleanup before they go. We find their prices reasonable. Danny has also told us NOT to cut certain trees, which I can't imagine would be the case with the Random Yelp Tree Corporation. They also saved that cracked oak limb with a couple of gargantuan bolts. Add to this the fact that Danny is a pleasure to work with, and is recommended by everyone I know who is knowledgeable about trees and horticulture (including the savvy arborist we consult with regarding the oak every few years)--there's nobody else we'd trust with our trees. read more

We arrived at a fair price and set a date. Danny confirmed the day before the job, and the crew arrived right on schedule and ready to go. The crew is very efficient and they were careful not to impact areas that were not part of the job. By the end of the day the job was done, down to the last leaf and twig. Danny is such an amazing person and he really knows what he is doing. We are planning to purchase a property with a huge tree at the front yard. We know we have to do something about it if we get the house but not sure what we are dealing with. I read the reviews on yelp and decided to give Danny a call. Danny called me back the same day and scheduled an appt. My husband met with Danny few days later, and he cannot stop saying good things about Danny. First of all, Danny is very knowledgeable, he spotted some issue of the tree itself and all the stump/safety related issue. Professional, honest, and hard working. Mr. Osti is a man of integrity. He is not just a guy that shows up with his crew up to mow down your tree or hack it off because he happens to have equipment to do it. He is mindful of how best to use his equipment to prune your tree or how best to remove your tree with care. He is one of a kind. He provides very good pricing for his service. There is no one like Mr. Osti. I don't think you will find a better tree service person. There is probably cheaper tree service folks out there, but I can tell you they are a dime a dozen of cheap guys that have no idea what they are doing when they motor up their chain saws. They may make your tree "look nice" and "pruned", but they have no idea what they are doing. Mr. Osti has at least 50 years of experience. He could almost be the town mayor for the greater San Gabriel Valley when it comes to tree services And frankly he is just a plain nice guy who happens to know about trees: it's balance, proportion and health as some of the major factors to how you prune and treat a tree. Most others don't even think about these factors because I don't think many of the competitors are trained arborists like Mr. Osti. Mr. Osti is "D TREE GUY" you want for your trees! read more
