I went with a different place at first because it was closer to where we were living. Well, that turned out to be a mistake. I ended up having a bad experience there and finally switched to S&L. Dr. Ngo and his team fixed everything the other dentist had messed up. Right away I knew my wife had been right all along. I've been going to S&L for four years now and they really are the best dental office I've ever been to. Dr. Ngo has removed all my old metal fillings and replaced them with modern ones, plus he's done a couple of crowns for me. Everything looks and feels great. My wife has also been extremely happy with all the work he's done for her too. I'm almost 55 and I've seen a bunch of top-rated, highly recommended dentists over the years, both here in the US and a couple in Mexico. Nothing else comes close. One thing I have to mention is how good Dr. Ngo is with people who hate dental visits or get nervous about pain. His work is excellent, but it's the way he takes care of you that makes the biggest difference. For example, the way he does Novocaine shots is unbelievable. You barely feel it at all. Every dentist out there should learn his technique. With all that said, I do think the front office experience could be better. If the customer service up front matched Dr. David's clearly caring vibe, it would be 100% perfect. If you're looking for a truly professional dentist who gives five-star care and service, this is the place. Dr. David Ngo at S&L is the only one I would recommend without any hesitation.

Though the ownership has changed, the level of care has not, and may have improved. For instance, they recommended I get a retainer to prevent issues down the road. I travel here from 30 miles away just to get a cleaning, as I used to live next door. They seem to be cutting edge on their technology, and the doctor is friendly. The only issue I wish they would improve is parking communication. I always have trouble finding a spot and don't know where their deck is to park at, and by the time I'm leaving it's too late. The front desk staff is friendly and nice and I've never had an issue with billing. My wife has been to different dentists that wanted to bill for phantom cavities but this place has never done that to me. They are honest and good.

This is not the dentist for you if you are a basic patient that doesn't have serious dental issues or need cosmetic surgery or appliances. They don't take care of you or treat you if you aren't making money . The only bright spot is the front desk and the hygienists who are excellent despite the dentists being inattentive and uncaring. I switched to this dentist (Dr Bri) several years ago after moving here and having a multi year relationship with my prior dentist. While Dr Bri was fine at the beginning, everything became progressively worse over time. This office is a money making machine that only cares about selling you cosmetic dentistry and services you don't need. They did this to me and my kids, each of us getting separately estimates for 20k of cosmetic work every time you go in for a tooth cleaning. Another friend left the practice after having the same experience. I stayed on bc I felt it was fine to say no to cosmetic work but ultimately was relegated to worse and worse service. Several times, and maybe all of the last four visits, I had to ASK to see the actual dentist. They tried to send me on my way after the hygienist cleaning. I was asked if I had a particular issue and said- no I just think the dentist should look at your teeth during a dental exam. Terrible customer service. Worse, last time I was there, they had someone who I don't think had ever seen a tooth doing flossing and other basic work (it wasn't the hygienist). She kept skipping teeth and had no clue what she was doing. It was almost like a joke. Then when I asked to see the dentist, I found out she wasn't even there that day. Why even schedule me for an appointment? It was ridiculous and the final straw. Side note: They also refused to send X-rays to my oral surgeon bc I wouldn't sign up with their surgeon who wasn't covered by my insurance. My surgeon had to take new X-rays. What a racket. Again The only reason for not giving one star are the front desk and hygienists who are excellent. I consider the dentist a long term and personal relationship. I went to this office for years and had absolutely no relationship with Dr Bri. The customer service is poor unless you need major work done. Find another office if you are just an ordinary person with good teeth that need to be cleaned.

My old practice was a single dentist, a few dental assistants and a receptionist. You spend your entire visit with the dentist and he provides you an honest summary of your visit. The total visit is under a half hour. Biltmore Commons has 6 Dentists and at least that many dental hygienist and more dental assistants and receptionists. You spend the majority of your visit with your hygienist and about 2 minutes with the dentist. Because there is so much overhead you get a Spirit Airlines experience where you are constantly getting upsold nonsense. The hygienists are more like used car salesmen than people who clean your teeth. I have been to this place twice and they have tried selling me laser treatment ($100) night guards ($800), Invisilign, a Waterpick ($120), an additional cleaning, and they were going to try to sell me an electric toothbrush if I didn't already have one. The hygienists don't give up the entire visit until you say yes to something. The dentist never says you need any of these things. I never went through with any of these scams. And I will not be going to Biltmore Commons ever again. My first visit was 2 hours (with x-rays) and my second was almost an hour (without x-rays). I have a life and my time is not valued. My recommendation is to find a dentist with less overhead where they can pay for their practice with just regular dental work and not ancillary products.

The price was actually average but the dental work and followup were extremely problematic. The following is my email regarding the problems following my temporary crowns. I later discovered the website email address was not operational. Message to Dr. Rao, I left a message this morning (Saturday October 21) regarding my discomfort and problem with my temporary crowns. I assumed you would have an emergency number to reach you even though your office is closed. (It's very unusual for a medical/dental professional to have no after hours contact information). I had my temporary crowns done on October 11 and paid for them and the permanent crowns in advance as you requested. This has not been my usual payment experience. I returned on October 18 to have the temporary crowns smoothed as my tongue was irritated and had developed ulcers from the rough texture. Your assistant did most of the work. I started to explain to you how my bite was now off and my mouth felt out of alignment. You didn't appear to be concerned and no effort was made to rectify this situation. Observing my bite, it's apparent that the temporary crowns on the lower right side are higher, wider and unevenly matched to the bottom teeth on the left side. I have researched and discovered that temporary crowns should be adjusted so that the patient's bite is comfortable or if necessary, redone. I haven't been able to eat solid food for the past 10 days and my tongue is still irritated by the rough texture of the crowns. I'm very concerned that my permanent crowns will also be a poor fit. I need to have the temporary crowns adjusted to be the same height and similar width as the teeth on the other side of my mouth so that I am able to chew comfortably. I am unable to chew properly on the left side since I am missing a top tooth. My permanent crowns appointment isn't till November 8. I would appreciate having this dental problem corrected as soon as possible. Dr. Rao responded on Monday to the phone message I left on Saturday concerning my distress. He was apologetic and had me return again for another adjustment. He works on several patients at the same time and at one point needed to be reminded what we were working on. The permanent crowns were finally applied and the numbing needle was incredibly painful. My lips were horribly swollen for days as the extreme numbing lasted for hours and made me unaware that I was chewing on my lips, when eating. Finally the crowns were done and I was able to chew comfortably. The next problem was reimbursement from my Medicare insurance. Dr. Rao had said initially that as a courtesy he would fill out the paperwork. He sent a pre-approval but neglected to follow up with a completed and signed itemized bill. It's been almost 3 months and after hours of conversations with United Healthcare, I received a statement showing a $1000 reimbursement allowed. The paperwork included a signature required by the dentist and his filling out a form. I emailed the paperwork to his office and I spoke with his office representative Anna, who advised me not to pursue the payment because that would delay my getting reimbursement (?) She advised me to wait a few more weeks and said Dr. Rao was informed about this situation. I've had a lot of dental work done by different dentists over the years but this has been an unusually frustrating experience.

As someone who keeps up with regular cleanings and has historically had very minimal dental issues, I was surprised by the significant amount of dental work that was recommended and performed. In less than one year, I had multiple fillings and my first two crowns, requiring more than a dozen visits to the office. More concerning, several of the repairs completed at this office did not hold up. Three fillings that were placed chipped within months. One ultimately required a crown, and the other two needed to be redone entirely. Prior to this, I had never experienced dental work failing so quickly; historically, my dental work has lasted many years without issue. Because I had previously had braces, I wear a retainer at night to maintain my alignment. When I received my first crown, I later learned that my existing retainer would no longer fit and needed to be remade. As someone who had never had a crown before, I was unaware that this would be necessary, and the additional cost was unexpected and frustrating. While the office ultimately waived the cost of the second retainer required for the second crown, the first replacement retainer was an added charge that could have reasonably been anticipated or discussed ahead of time. Equally frustrating was that each visit was with a different dentist, and the treatment recommendations often differed from one provider to the next. This lack of continuity made it difficult to feel confident in the care being provided. When I returned for repairs on work that had recently been completed, I was also surprised that there was no effort to offer a reduced cost or warranty-type accommodation. In many professional settings, when a repair fails shortly after being performed, the corrective work is handled as a courtesy. That was not the case here. While the team is friendly, the volume of procedures, number of return visits, the durability of the work performed, the unexpected additional costs, and the lack of consistency in providers ultimately made this a frustrating experience. As a result, I ultimately chose to seek care elsewhere and hope this feedback encourages greater transparency and continuity of care for future patients.
