I usually don't write reviews here, especially for doctors, but I thought I should share my experience to help other people out. I had high hopes for Dr. Conlin after reading all the great reviews here, but I just had one bad experience after another. Each time I brushed it off, thinking it must just be a fluke, giving the benefit of the doubt. Then it eventually hit me, "whoa, this whole experience was just awful." The reception staff was rude to the point where it was almost comical. They made me and another patient wait while they seemed to be having a personal conversation. I brushed it off, but the other patient was clearly irritated. The doctor was running very late, but was kind enough to pop his head in the waiting room and apologized. I have to admit, that was classy. During my visit with him, Dr. Conlin was very friendly and personable. However, he kept interrupting my consultation with what seemed to be insnata messages or something on his computer. Several times he seemed to lose track of our conversation and I was repeating myself a lot. I feel like that's a golden rule for doctors; they should never text or chat on the computer while seeing a patient. I got zero follow-up care or alternative treatment options. He did return my calls, but was very rushed and brief. I couldn't get a follow-up appointment, either. I got the feeling his instincts were off and he didn't know what to do. *note: I've left is review on my iPad so I apologize if my grammar isn't perfect!* Ive only seen Dr. Conlin once for an urgent care visit. I had really mixed feelings about the visit, which ultimately led me to cancel the endoscopy procedure we had scheduled. THE GOOD: Dr. Conlin seemed to quickly pinpoint some potential causes of the chronic issues I have suffered from for many years. He seems diagnostically skilled, which is obviously very important in a doctor. He didn't rush the visit and he even squeezed me in for an urgent care, which I obviously appreciated. THE BAD: 1 - Although Dr. Conlin went over my chronic issues very thoroughly, he did not address the reason for my actual urgent care! I tried bringing this up with him several times but he did not seem to think it was worth addressing during our visit. I couldn't help but wonder why I was granted an urgent care if the problem wasn't actually urgent. Furthermore, the problem persisted and I spoke with him over the phone, and he still didn't think anything of it. I am still suffering from this problem like a month and a half later.... not really sure why it doesn't warrant any testing. Will get a second opinion. 2- THE ARBITRATION AGREEMENT. Dr. Conlin requires an arbitration agreement. If this is not important to you, then so be it, but it is very important to me. I will not receive medical care from someone who requires me to forfeit my legal rights to do so. I've never sued anyone and I don't ever plan to, but I think transparency and accountability are crucial in a good healthcare system. What's worse, is when I brought up my confusion about why I was being required to sign an arbitration agreement, the office manager gave me very confusing and dishonest explanations about the purpose of the agreement. First, she said I could not opt out of the agreement, despite there being an OPT OUT clause included in the very form. Secondly, she said that every doctor requires arbitration agreements, and that most patients just aren't aware that they have entered into one. This is blatantly false, and as a healthcare worker, I can say without a doubt that we would never require our patients to enter into such an agreement. Lastly, after all of this, she finally said that I could opt out, but could only do so AFTER 30 days had passed. The form clearly stated that one can only opt out WITHIN 30 days, which she insisted was incorrect. I am not sure why she kept changing her stance, nor why she was saying things that are blatantly false (hey, maybe she really doesnt understand her own documentation), but it did not instill feelings of trust in the doctor who wants to perform a procedure on me. So, overall, would I see Dr. Conlin again for a routine office visit? Yeah, maybe. But I have decided to take my business elsewhere for my actual procedure, as this office has lost my trust. I haven't had a colonoscopy before and I trusted my referral from my primary care provider to go to Dr. Conlin. I have little to complain about the experience, I mean it was a colonoscopy. I received a phone call with nondescript results 6 days after and I would have appreciated a written report of the findings as well. My main beef is that they are not upfront with the costs of the procedure. Before I underwent the procedure the San Francisco Endoscopy Center called to inform me of the $1157.02 out of pocket charge and the anesthesiologist charge of $138.40. I thought this included everything and although it was a big fee I figured it was worth it to get some results. The following are the bills I received in the 2 months following my procedure (FYI I have PPO insurance through my company) Dr. Conlin Fee Total $960 After Insurance: $97.05 San Francisco Endoscopy Center Total $4616 After Insurance: $1157.02 Biopsy Lab Fee Total $2581 After Insurance: $387.15 Anesthesiologist Total $920 After Insurance $138.40 California Pacific Medical Center? Total $1191 After Insurance $178.65 Maria Patino MD Lab Charge? Total $2097 After Insurance $94.18 Total $12365 After Insurance $2052.45 I am frustrated that for $2000 out of pocket you get a phone call that you "might be celiac and might have colitis". read more

I really can't say enough good things about my appointment. This was one of the best medical interactions I have had, and I have had pretty much all positive experiences in the past. I really appreciated his ability to hold a nonjudgmental space because it allowed me to be honest about things that I wouldn't have otherwise. He was very knowledgeable, helpful and gave me a lot to think about. At the very least to invest more in an informed decision. read more

I have seen Dr. Conlin only once, he has good manners and listen. He scheduled a colonoscopy for me for tomorrow. The day I went the secretary was socializing a lot with a woman (very bad impression for me because it kind of neglected the patients). She gave me a script for the colonoscopy procedure but nobody told me the preparation causes diahrrea. The doctor or the secretary should tell patients in advance the effects of the dedication. Very bad!. Also, I called weeks before to the office to talk to the dr. regarding my blood results and the secretary said he will call me on the weekend. He never called me. Having had to postpone my appointment (which took 3 weeks to get) I called to explain that I had hit traffic due to an accident on 101 and would not be able to make the time allotted. The receptionist (Rachel) angrily told me that I should have called a few hours earlier to postpone. Hilarious. She then hung up on me before I got to postpone. read more

Dr. Conlin may be a great doctor, but his office staff is terrible over the phone. Unresponsive and rushed, they make you feel not just insignificant, but completely worthless. Voicemails are returned more than a week later, if at all. They are so overbooked that you must plan months in advance. I finally gave up in frustration after trying to deal with the awful office staff. As I've read elsewhere, Dr. Conlin may be a great doctor, but I'll never find out. If he pays any attention to the service his clients receive, he will find better assistants. What other business could treat its customers so poorly and survive? read more

I have had about 5 or 6 colonoscopies and an endoscopy with Dr Conlin over the years. He is a great, caring doctor that is very professional and highly recommended. No complications, no pain, no worries. The only thing I would recommend is scheduling your procedure at the California Pacific Med Center (3698 California Street) instead of the other option that is a independent colonscopy center. The after-care is much better at the hospital facility. The doctor does his procedures at a few locations so you will have to ask to be sure you get this option. read more

Perfect treatment, dr Conlin has a great bedside manner! They set me up with my gown and then wheeled me in for some excellent drugs (haven't slept that well in ages!) then, they gently woke me up and showed me pretty pictures of my insides, gave me recommendations for better diet, etc. the doctor is very friendly and professional, as are the nurses and staff. They are also efficient--no long waiting periods. The whole thing from start to finish was an hour. If your a 50 yr old male, GO DO IT!! (Colonoscopy). I was referred to Dr. Conlin by my primary care physician on a Friday. I got caught up running errands that day and before I knew it, it was past office hours. Unbelievably, Dr. Conlin personally called me on Saturday (and again on Sunday) to let me know he had an appointment open the following Tuesday!! I was hospitalized with a bleeding ulcer four years ago -- and the Endoscopy that was done in the hospital was just awful. So I was dreading this appointment. This time it was a breeze. I didn't need to get undressed -- in fact they said I could even keep my shoes on (which I did cause my feet get cold). I was told that when the IV was inserted I'd feel a slight sting and possibly a mild burning situation -- but I hardly felt a thing. Dr. Conlin stopped by to introduce himself and was very warm and patient friendly. After a few minutes my gurney was wheeled into the room where the procedure was being done. Dr. Conlin asked me a few background questions, and then sprayed my throat to numb it. Shortly afterwards, the sedative started to take effect. I felt like I was taking a nap without really falling completely asleep, because I could hear people talking somewhere else in the room. I kept wondering when the doctor was going to start the procedure, but the next thing I remember was opening my eyes and Dr. Conlin telling me it was all over -- and I was back in the room where I started. I couldn't believe it. I felt great. No pain whatsoever. Dr. Conlin said that my throat might be sore later in the day -- but my throat never hurt at all. It's asy to see why everyone gives him a five star rating -- and now he has one more. I really lucked out when I got referred to him. He's terrific. read more

Just completed my colonoscopy with Dr Conlin and it was as good an experience as it could be. The staff is very efficient and helpful. They use the new prep which is much easier than the old version where you have to drink a gallon of nasty stuff. The procedure was quick and everything ran on time. He is very knowledgeable about treatment alternatives for both Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's disease. I had my first visit with Dr. Conlin today, and absolutely loved him! I was running late, but he was very gracious about it, and didn't rush me through the visit. He listened, asked questions, and seemed genuinely interested in helping me solve my challenging GI issues (as opposed to the last doctor I went to, who just seemed completely puzzled and didn't have much to offer from a recommendation perspective). He was horrible - apathetic, unprofessional, and costly. Dr. Conlin "treated" me for two years starting in 2008. He mis-diagnosed my problem after having me undergo a battery of tests, including a colonoscopy. I had horrendous abdominal pain, which would leave me bed-ridden several times a month. His advice was to take Pepto Bismol tablets. When that didn't work, he advised that I increase the dosage. And when that didn't work he prescribed a $500/month medicine that had no effect. Each visit was approximately 5-7 minutes long and given that each time I went it cost me $300, that averaged about $60/minute. Turns out after my 3rd visit to the ER, an ER doctor discovered that I had cystic mass the size of a lemon that sat atop my colon. A surgical OB/GYN ended up removing it, my appendix and right ovary. Since then I've had no issues. No thanks to Dr. Conlin. read more

Need to say that the assistant that I was speaking to via phone to make an appointment is rude and behaves like she is the only smart person in this world. I am contemplating now whether I should go to the doctor although I made an appointment. It is not the way the customers should be treated!!! read more

On my first consultation, Dr. Conlin very clearly laid out his approach ahead of time. After eliminating several potential causes, we finally found the culprit. Throughout this time, I had several phone consultations, including one as soon as my results came in. He always makes time for his patients and did a great job resolving an issue other doctors failed to resolve. Also, his staff is very professional and responsive. I was referred to Dr Conlin by by PCF for a procedure I was not looking forward to :). When you turn fifty and follow your physicians advise you'll know what I mean. I found Dr. Conlin and his staff to be wonderful, responsive to my needs, and very informative regarding my procedure. Oddly, I did not meet Dr. Conlin to until moments of my examine, but he immediately put me at ease, explained the procedure in detail, added a little humor and made the entire event pretty uneventful. Dr. Conlin and his whole team are *the best* in my opinion. He is my GI doctor and just prior to a colonoscopy, I learned I was very anemic. I faxed over my lab results to his office on a Saturday, and Dr. Conlin called me on Sunday very concerned. We decided to do endoscopy as well as colonoscopy to see what might be going on in there. During the exam, he found I had a very serious medical condition. He called me at home later that night (7PM, long after business hours) and he explained at a high level what was next, so that I could have a roadmap. When you learn you are sick, you are just in total shock and need someone to lay out what is next for you, so you can relax a little. Dr. Conlin then called a surgeon (the same night) explained my condition, and that surgeon called me that evening as well. I was in front of that expert surgeon at 9AM the next morning thanks to Dr. Conlin acting quickly. Dr. Conlin was very kind and reassuring to me through my entire ordeal. I think he is one of the hardest working people I know - doing colonoscopies at 6AM and on the phone with patients at 7PM. His team are great too and provide a lot technical support (insurance questions, and how to prep for procedures) as well as being very kind and helpful throughout whatever process you are going through. Dr. Conlin and the CMPC team literally saved my life and were extremely kind and professional though the whole ordeal. I totally trust him and highly recommend him. read more

Dr. Conlin is one of the finest doctor I've ever had the experience to deal with. He is calm, caring and interested in his patients. Yes, his office is busy but I have always found the people in his office are very responsive and caring as Dr. Conlin is. He is the finest example of a doctor who lives by the Hippocratic oath. I have had a serious illness and taking several medications to get into remission. For the last 6 weeks, Dr. Conlin has called my home every weekend to find out how I'm doing. If you are due for a colonoscopy, you couldn't choose a better doctor than Daniel Conlin. When I went to see him recently, he was concerned enough about my symptoms that he arranged to fit me in to his busy schedule at six thirty a.m. a few days later. After the procedure, which was amazingly painless, he gave me a printed computerized copy of the results. A few days later he called me personally to tell meI had nothing to worry about. My first colonoscopy. Well I was very, very worried about this prior to the actual experience. But after my encounter with Dr. Conlin, all of that worry was unnecessary. I felt nothing, experienced no problems whatsoever. It was as though I merely went into his office for a checkup and calmly walked out. But five stars might not be a high enough rating for Dr. Conlin for he found and removed three polyps (all benign). This to me was quite an achievement for some physicians would remove polyps through abdominal surgery. But this was apparently a normal day on the job for this amazing doctor. Met with Dr. Conlin after ending up in the ER earlier this week. While the ER team was willing to dismiss my symptoms as "acute heartburn", I was urged by another physician to get checked out by Dr. Conlin. His office team was amazing and was able to squeeze me in late on a Friday afternoon. Dr. Conlin made a diagnosis, sent me to the lab for an ultrasound and referred me to a surgeon all before 6 PM. His commitment to his patients (and I was a brand new one at that!) is commendable, as he did not want me to go home without some more definitive answers. While I won't be going back to Dr. Conlin due to the nature of my diagnosis, I can't recommend him highly enough! read more
