When I had difficulty finding a primary care doctor for an annual exam, I still knew I could book an appointment here and at least get my eyes checked and update my prescriptions. It offered me a shred of dignity. The doctors are all knowledgeable and friendly and the front desk staff is lovely and patient. I still returned here today even though I don't live in Harlem and also now have employer-sponsored health insurance. A front desk employee, Solange, patiently explained my benefits and the amount I would be responsible for paying, which was reasonable. She was simply amazing. I know I'll be back next year for my annual exam.

During the visit, retinal imaging was recommended and we were explicitly told that if it was done that day, it would be covered under the routine vision exam. After the exam was completed, we were informed that the visit was billed as a medical exam, resulting in unexpected out-of-pocket charges due to our medical deductible. Medical insurance was not discussed or verified until after the visit. Only after requesting further information did we receive the billing and diagnosis codes used to justify medical billing. None of the documented diagnoses were discussed with the patient during the exam, nor was it explained that a medical condition was being evaluated or that billing would change as a result. The issue is not the clinical care, but the lack of transparency and misleading communication around insurance coverage and diagnoses. Patients deserve clear, upfront explanations before testing is performed. Based on this experience, we would not return.

After getting changed and ready to see the tech the tech says they scheduled you a month too early. We count from January and not December when your last appt was. Does not even make sense!!
