Like someone else said, he asks you questions and fills out your paperwork for you. He's super patient, and takes his time to make sure your eyes and any possible problems are discovered. Unfortunately, the front office has become so frustrating that I'm seriously considering finding another practice. For six years, this office has accepted my insurance. At every annual visit, I've simply paid my $25 specialist copay. Today, however, the receptionist informed me that I had to pay $213 because I have a "deductible, " which I never had with my other doctors. Despite being told that this was a mistake, they charged my credit card and told me that if my insurance later paid the claim, the office would refund me in three weeks. That didn't sound right, so after I got home, I called my insurance company. Of course, they confirmed that this is not how an in-network provider should handle billing. According to my insurer, Dr. Eisenberg is considered a specialist who only requires a $25 co-payment. I then called Cooper Eye Care, and they said they would look into it further. Three hours later, I got a call saying that they had refunded the $200 after their billing person did "a deep dive" into my United Health insurance policy. No apology. This experience was especially disappointing because just last month I had an eye emergency, and despite being an established patient for years, the office couldn't fit me in despite telling them I had an international flight within 48 hours. They put me on a waiting list and sent me elsewhere. Thankfully, the person they recommended was as excellent as my current doctor, and it all worked out well. (In fact, I did eventually get off their waiting list the next day, but it was only after I was already at the newly recommended doctor's office.) So, while the medical care itself remains excellent, my frustration is entirely with the administrative side of the practice. Patients shouldn't have to leave an appointment feeling upset, questioning whether they were charged incorrectly, and then waste additional time calling their insurance company to learn that the office's billing procedure was incorrect. I hope the practice addresses its front-desk training and billing policies because they are undermining the excellent care provided by the physicians.
