My wife and I love to take a stroll along the boardwalk, listen to live music at the bandshell on Johnson Street then take off our shoes and dip our feet into the water as the moon light glistens off the ocean. Sometimes we relax in the lifeguard stands and people watch. Certain times of the year, the jellyfish fill the beach near the water and will sting if bothered. As a kid, my family and friends hung out further north on Scott Street which was less congested with limited chaos but may be slightly boring. The Hollywood Beach is well kept and a wonderful addition to South Florida.

Keating Beach Park is off the beaten path at the far north end of the Hollywood Boardwalk. This park was named in honor of former Hollywood Mayor David Keating. He served as a City Commissioner and Mayor from 1961 to 1986. In 1963 he took a walk on this stretch of beach and it cemented in his mind that it should remain public. For the next two decades he led the fight to save this strip of beach from Sheridan Street to the Hollywood-Dania Beach line from Hollywood Inc., a development company that claimed they owned it, not the city. On September 4, 1981, the Fourth District Court of Appeal sided with the city and decided that the 1.5 mile of beach belonged to the city. Anyone who uses the beach here today has David Keating to thank. Today Keating Beach Park is under construction. It looks like there is structural damage to the pavilion and it is fenced off. There is no parking in this area either. The restrooms are closed and the slide is gone. Still the beach remains a glorious wide strip on sundrenched sand. This area is frequented more by locals than tourists. Here is to hopping that Hollywood gets the repairs done and opens this area back up soon.

The sand is so soft and clean, with not a single bit of seaweed. This was so surprising, as just a few miles away there was a substantial amount of seaweed. There were palm trees that offered a perfect amount of shade if you prefer to lie and read your book or take a nap on the beach. Be sure to layer on the sunscreen, I used an SPF 60, and still walked away a bit flushed. The water was very comfortable and clean. I took a swim a few times, and this is in April. Why can't every beach be like Keating Beach? But wait... there was a lady who came and was yelling profanities, I thought she was on her phone, but she was actually just venting loudly to herself. She had all eyes on her, there was no stopping her. I suppose that's one way to exercise your freedom of speech! Keating Beach is as perfect as they come. Hopefully you won't encounter the minor interruption like I did.

There was plenty of parking at 12pm on the Saturday when I went, but it was a little bit of a chilly day. The beach area was beautiful and they had some picnic tables and BBQ's by the mangroves. There are lifeguard stands and plenty of sand to find a comfortable spot. There is also the broadwalk, in which people were walking, roller-blading, and riding their bikes. I had to pay $10 to park, which would be for the whole day or even just an hour. The only thing I think that could have been improved is the cleanliness of the bathrooms. Beach bathrooms are never that sparkling clean, but these were smelly and looked like they haven't been looked over all day. So all in all, a great place to enjoy the beach if you can stand the smelly bathroom.

It was around 10am on Saturday when we stopped by because we were in the area, and we had no idea there would be a cost. From what I could see, it is a nice pier, and you would definitely get some good pictures out there, and of the city. There's a quarterdeck right in front which opens at 11am, it's smaller than most, so I can imagine how packed it must become, especially for its location! I was really bummed about not being able to go onto the pier.

Basically, the sights of the ocean are spectacular from any point on the wooden pier but fishing only permitted past the gate. The public parking lot is $5.00 per hour and the attendant is actively hunting for violators so take that into consideration if you are going to avoid the meter.

The beach itself doesn't close as early as Miami Beach which means it's also a nice spot to enjoy the Full Moon, and the waves are perfect for swimming. It's just across the Ritz Carlton at the intersection of A1A and Sebastian. It's a beach open to all, but mostly frequented by the LGBT+ community. There are chairs and umbrellas for rent. Almost always there's someone with nice music, so you have the option to be close to the sounds of music or take a quieter place a few feet away. The beach has some nice shower heads, so you can rinse off as you come in or leave the beach. Close to public transportation, shared rides or public parking lots, it's easy and convenient to most people who live in east of Federal and between Las Olas and Commercial. Check it out.

Overall fun experience. I booked a tour through viator which included hotel pickup. The pickup was…read moreon time and the driver narrated some fun facts about the everglades on the short ride there. We visited on a Saturday so it was busy as expected. There is no shade on the grounds so much of the time was spent standing in the hot sun. Waiting to get into an airboat was a bit chaotic and tiresome. There were shade canopies along the queue but they were not deployed for some reason. Staff seemed a bit disorganized, groups were confused on where to go and given mixed directions from staff members. The experience on the boat was nice and we saw a variety of wildlife. The captain was knowledgeable and spotted alligators quickly. The gator show was fun but short. The host Paul was funny and engaging, the entire audience was captivated. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. Our highlight was getting to hold a baby alligator and knowing that our money was going to one of the only no kill gator rescues!

Jimmy Buffett has to be laughing his way to yachts with these. You can find simulators like this at all year ski resorts, or there's one at Hershey Park. I like that they play Buffett and other music nearby. $40 or $50 for a half hour experience is expensive. That's the nature of supply and demand though. If you can go on a weekday, as a little less expensive and not as busy as weekends. Signing up for a reserved time was a cinch. There's a small tiki looking building to the left of this ride. All it takes is a few minutes. My son enjoyed this, and although you're scheduled for a half hour session, you'll be in with others. That's ok as the staff gets everyone ride time. If in the area it's very popular.
