Found this place on Yelp and love it. Not sure what to order bc there weren't any menus but we came here motivated by the tamarind martinis seen on Yelp. We ended up getting a rum version of the tamarind martini and also got tamarind shots. Aside from the tasty drinks, our server Jose was really nice and helpful, and the other guests were just as friendly. They lose one star bc of the occasional cigarette smell. read more

My friend and I just found this place randomly and believed that we had discovered a hidden gem. After some research, It turns out that we were not the first ones to do so (Aw shucks!). Even Bourdain has been here, which makes me roll my eyeballs. Nonetheless, this is one of the best cocktail lounges to which I have ever been. The staff behaves and dresses professionally. Monica, our bartender, is an experienced mixologist who will make you a Margarita that will remind you why you came to Tijuana. This is not a brew pub or a rowdy Mexican hillbilly bar. I came on a Monday night and this bar was very poorly lit and all the specials were written on unlit chalk boards. The drinks were cheap, heavy on the syrup, and not very strong. The music was coming from a jukebox and the songs were all horrible. I feel that there are better bars in Tijuana to visit than this one. read more

While you might expect the inside to look like the cantina from Star Wars, Dandy happens to be a pretty friendly dive on a rando street in the TJ. Walking in you can greet the sweet owner (who will remind you of your favorite grandma) and then take a seat at the long bar or one of the many tables strewn about. You'll notice right away that there are drink special signs all over the bar making this a cheap place to kick a few (too many) back. I think each drink (Smirnoff and Casadora) ran us around $2.50 usd. When ordering, don't forget to ask for the wifi password and some of the bar snacks, which are semi-frightening but delicious. They seem even better after a few astronaut shots, which are vodka or tequila chased with salt, sugar and instant coffee. Again, semi-frightening but delicious. Now that you've had a few, toss some $$ into the jukebox and get really greased up for the next few hours (just be cool and tip). We all know where the next stop is after Dandy.... Unique because you can find gems like Remy Martin vsop For 100 pesos . Large selection of congacs , wiskeys, and scotches. They offer botanas. (Snacks). Dandy del Sur is an intimate retro-style bar, and I'm pretty much in love with it. I love the dark and moody atmosphere that makes me feel like I've walked off of Calle Sexta and into a Mexi-noir melodrama. I love the friendly bartenders, who are equally happy serving you cervezas, shots, cocktails, martinis... or agua (if you've already been drinking for too long). I love the complementary bowls of chicharrones de harina. Those things are dangerously addictive. I love the dirt-cheap prices. The bartender informed me that there's usually some sort of 2-for-1-special going on. The delicious, 2-for-1 palomas ($4) were a no-brainer for me. I love Daniela, the stately feline who lives on the premises. (Yes, Dandy del Sur has an in-house pussy.) Daniela sits on a bar stool and is pretty much one of the regulars (who, incidentally, are also quite friendly). I love the free and fast wi-fi, which makes Dandy del Sur an excellent home base for a tourist to whip out his favorite iGadget and make further plans. Dandy del Sur is the real deal. Cool, quiet "Locals" bar with friendly staff and inexpensive drinks. Nice because when I have been there it has never been full of "Ugly Americanos" yelling, hooting, acting up and making asses of themselves. The bar and restrooms are clean and well kept. read more

Another Anthony Bourdain spot that I approve of! We just ordered Bohemias but it was ice cold and the atmosphere was great! It's totally a locals bar which I definitely dig. The service was nice and friendly. Saw Bourdain's pic on the wall and he hasn't steered me wrong yet in my Mexican food quest. It was dark inside and very intimate but there was no air of pretension. Words can't describe my love for this bar. It's the best dive bar in TJ, and one of my favorite dive bars anywhere! It's a classic dive bar, with great drinks, stellar service, and fantastic juke box filled with American and Mexican hits and classics. And they have great bar munchies, like tostilocos, etc.. If you go try the Astronatas-- it's a shot of vodka, with a lime, coffee crystal, and sugar chaser. Dip half the lime in the sugar, and the other half in the coffee crystals, and either take it before or after your shot of vodka. It'll fly you to space and beyond for sure! :) Cheers! read more

Super yummy tamarindo martinis and they give you a free bowl of chicharrones (the wheat puffs not pork rinds). This gem is not in the touristy area so don't expect loud music and lasers, quite the opposite, it is a dark, retro, intimate little "dive". The owner hangs around quite often and is a hoot to chat with. When it really comes down to it though, her gorgeous cat is truly the one who owns the place, walking on barstools waving that tail around just begging to be petted! Was a very pleasant experience. My first time in TJ and thats the first place we went. Prices were very cheap. We had 6 drinks total that came to 230 pesos (11.30 USD) great atmosphere. Woman at bar was super nice but speaks NO English. I would definitely come back. read more

One of the best bars in town. They have a reasonably clean bathroom. The owner is always there and holds down the fort like a seasoned veteran. They have some good snacks and cold drinks. Expect to pay a little more than a dive bar for the intimate environment. read more

I used to go here often. Last time the waitress was very rude, insisting my date order a drink. Instead of letting me buy two beers or a beer and a shot she told us we had to leave. After 10 years of being a client this is how they treat you. The lady that used to run it is gone. They must have sold it to a new owner. It used to be a great place to go. Cheap drinks and they were pretty friendly to us considering we didn't belong to the neighborhood.
