I've been taking my 6year old daughter here for 6 months or so and now we're back after taking some…read moretime off. We are doing ballet! Leila was very supportive and helped my daughter catch up with the rest of the class. She was very patient and made sure all the girls were doing the moves correctly with good posture which is very important. I'm very happy with this class. :) A few other things worth mentioning: the studio is clean and well-maintained; music choice is nice and relaxing; food for less is nearby for parents who want to do some grocery shopping while the kids are dancing.

My mother in law bought a Groupon for this "school" for our 2 1/2 year old daughter to begin the…read morebasics in ballet. We just finished our fifth and final class today. Huge mistake! Not worth the time or money. The older woman/owner doesn't know how to deal/teach/interact with young children. She's impatient and demanding. The girls are often confused and distracted (as any toddler in a group of ten normally is) but Layla doesn't seem to understand why they act like their age. It's very disorganized and a lot of the children become distracted due to the uneven flow the "lesson" takes... They're given ribbons for a couple minutes, then taken away, given a ball, then taken away, etc... The lil girls want to be girls and have fun. This is not a "school" for anyone under the age of 20.

It had been about 25 years since I last touched a ballet barre. After three adult beginner classes…read moreso far, I want to yelp my awesome experience with Southern California Ballet. I'm not a dance mom (yet). Just an older gal dancing in her socks at this conveniently located studio. Our class is a wonderful range of ages and women. I love that. We may giggle as we fumble the steps and lose our balance... but the class offers exactly what it needs to offer. Fun and movement. Me and about 14 others signed up via the Poway Adult School... but the studio offers drop in classes directly as well. I really hope to try them - they just don't jive with my mommy and work schedule like the Thursday am class has. But I'm hopeful they add more classes or I can somehow make it work. This class has been such a reawakening. When you dance as a child and young adult... and quit... you don't have many outlets for enjoying it after the classes and recitals stop. You don't round up the friends like you do for a game of golf or basketball. Enter... the adult dance class. Boom. Toby, our teacher, is wonderful. He is easy-going and clearly talented. I liked the neat little background he gave us on ballet too. The music is a fun mix of contemporary songs disguised in ballet music. Fun. So much better than I remember as a kid. While I do have some lingering memories of dance... my joints and muscles are in a complete state of disrepair. Frankly, it makes me extra happy to be in the beginner's class. At times it is a bit of a whirlwind, but with continued repetition it sinks in. "Osmosis" as Toby says. So I try not to worry about the terms. I just enjoy each class, the break in my chaotic day... and dance (in between the hip cramps and forgotten steps).

We love Black Mountain Dance. They are a non-competition ballet only program starting at the age…read moreof 3. They take their ballet seriously and are excellent at teaching little girls about proper poise and posture. Ms. Katie is a wonderful teacher with the right mix of stern and playful in working with 3 & 4 year old kids.

Hopefully after reading my review you can make an informed decision to sign up or not. In the end we moved on to a new studio (cheaper price and better communication). But Georgia's still might the right choice for you. One of my biggest fears with any dance studio is when they force girls to dress and dance provocatively like they were in a hip hop music video. I'd say Georgia's is more on the conservative side which was a big plus. If you're new here it can be tough getting pertinent dance studio information. Sue (owner) has no concept of technology and often posts official announcements via poster board on the windows of the studio. Good luck getting info for picture day or info buying the recital video. That's probably one of the main factors for leaving here. The classes are fine and so was the instruction. Tho keep in mind instructors struggle with receiving information from the owner too. The big recital in June. After a year of classes you'll be expecting a proper recital and Georgia's doesn't disappoint. They rent out the Center Stage theater ( California Center of the Arts) for three nights of recitals. A total of 40 different classes put on a performance before a packed house each night. If you're into a big production, Georgia's is the place to go. Notes: - Cash only!?! This is not a liquor store! - Instructors can be let go on a whim.. - No parents allowed. They have a waiting room up front, or chairs in the back alley area but no cameras of the classes like other studios. - While there are some very competitive dancers (and parents) that's not the norm. - The receptionist/ cash collector is just there to collect payment. No vested interest in being enthusiastic about the studio or the customers. - There are additional fees for the recital and a whopping $26 per ticket to watch each night. I'm not suggesting Sue (owner) is making a profit and I suspect she's losing money on the recital. I'm pointing out additional fees you may or may not be made aware of. This also goes back to the lack of communication. So is Georgia's worth it? Look, there's a great recital and most people like this studio. Just know it's far from perfect and the owner refuses to modernize.. So yeah, give it a try for a year..
