Sharing our experience for other parents of young children. My 3-year-old attended her first class, and at the end, every child received a sticker except her. While it may seem small, at this age that kind of exclusion carries meaning, especially on a first day of her very first structured ballet class. I reached out to for clarification, and while I understand standing behind their staff, the owner's response felt more focused on defending the approach than acknowledging my concerns as a parent of a 3-year-old. She also didn't seem to understand that a sticker to a 3 year old signifies belonging/a sense of doing well, and can shape how a child views themselves in a new environment. I understand having structure, but this did not feel developmentally appropriate for such a young age or for my daughters first ever dance experience. A refund was offered, which I appreciate, but overall this was not the right fit for our family. I would strongly encourage other parents to clearly understand expectations and teaching approach beforehand. During our trial class, my daughter participated less and was still encouraged with a sticker, so the inconsistency here is both confusing and concerning. For a program working with very young children, that level of inconsistency and lack of professionalism in both practice and communication is disappointing. read more

The 3 year old class takes itself so seriously that they will ostracize a child for not participating or listening 100% during their dance class. My child was not given the reward everyone else was given (a sticker) for not fully participating in the beginning of class. She is 3 and this was her first class and the teacher acknowledged that my child listened most of the time. The sticker is not the problem, but when brought up to the director that this odd-man out behavior is not appropriate at this age, she was not empathetic and doubled-down that these are the expectations of this studio. To anyone who has a kid/grandkid thinking about joining a dance class or considering a change in studios... My granddaughter has been attending dance instruction at a studio in Santee for the past three years. She really loves dance, and we've enjoyed the productions they've had 2 - 3 times a year. But honestly, we've been a little disappointed in the staff in the last year or two. Their enthusiasm and hearts for the kids has been lacking. It seems like the instructors are in a job they don't love, going through the motions of instruction, but with little enthusiasm to teach and little effort to connect with the kids. In addition, while the studio was adequate, it was a bit underwhelming. Not long ago, while sitting in the bleachers of my grandson's baseball team, my daughter overheard chatter about a dance studio called "Jibe Studios", located in El Cajon (near the Santee border). Though Jibe Studios has been open for 20 years, a year ago they relocated. The new space was COMPLETELY remodeled from the studs out, and it's amazing! It's in an industrial type building with a really cool vibe! It's about 8,000 square feet with five or six different dance rooms and tons of open space all around. The ceilings are probably 15 feet high, and everything looks great! Each room is set up so families can easily watch without being in the room itself. And there's lots of seating available outside of the dance rooms (but inside the building) if parents need to take care of things while their kids are there. And as much as I was impressed by the building, I can't tell you how much I loved watching my granddaughter's instructor, Abby (who is a co-owner of Jibe), interact with the kids! She was so enthusiastic and joyful! Part way through, even though in this session there were just four younger kids (all around 6 years old), another instructor came in to assist, and she was equally engaged and bubbly! These people love their jobs! I spoke at length with the second co-owner, Jennifer, and she shared what the dance studio's vision is, how they mentor some of their older dancers to become instructors and more importantly, how they mentor those kids to be better people. Knowing that their Christmas show was upcoming, I asked about what venue they will be performing in. Part of my reason for asking was that the past performances my granddaughter was in, put on by the other studio, were held at the Joan Kroc Theater. It's a great venue, but unfortunately it has limited seating and some of the performances had a four guests per child seating limit, cutting out family who wanted to attend. Jibe Studios has in the past and are continuing to put on their performances at "The Magnolia" at the East County Performing Arts Center in El Cajon. For all practical purposes, their seating is unlimited, so we're thrilled that there won't be any limit on how many parents, their kids, grandparents and other loved ones can attend. I was just so impressed by the operation and wanted to share with anyone interested in taking up dance or looking for a new alternative. We signed our daughter up for tumbling class based on recommendations from friends who have kids dancing with Jibe. Their daughters are great dancers and also do tumbling, so I had high hopes for our experience. First of all, there isn't really a place to sit (other than the floor) if you want to watch your child in class. They do have a lobby but you can't see your kid. They do a lot of "promotions" to get more people to join classes or the studio. I get it, it's nice to bring a friend or try out other classes for free. Hi, it got to the point that there were over 15 kids once in the class and they couldn't actually do/practice anything because they had to stand around and wait for a turn. My daughter likes to teach herself how to do things and figured out how to do a backbend on her own. She enthusiastically shows her tumbling teacher who didn't say a thing to her. No "great job" or "wow". Nothing. My daughter was heartbroken. They do the same things over and over and over, not learning a new skill. We didn't sign up for the next session and they started texting me asking me if I was going to sign up, which was odd. I know many people love the studio and call it a second home, but it wasn't for us. read more

My two daughters have danced at Jibe for five years now and what a joy it has been to watch them grow along with the studio! What started out as a fun Saturday morning mini class has turned into something my two daughters love. Between the two they've enjoyed ballet, jazz, hip hop, tap and my oldest is part of their performance group called Crew. The staff has always made my kids feel welcomed and helped their skills/confidence (both in dance and other areas) grow. Abby, Jennifer, and their entire seem to genuinely love what they do. This is passes onto all of the dancers. Great news is the parking situation is remedied once the gym next door moved AND Jibe recen renovated their lobbyy last fall so they've more than doubled their parent seating! Finally, I love all that they accomplish as a non competitive dance studio. I also appreciate how all of the recital costumes are age appropriate without being revealing. This has been an amazing studio for our family. All my kids have taken classes (I have two boys and a girl) and they all enjoyed it every time. Great for a wide age range and even got adult classes to get your own experience and fun in there. The staff is amazing. My kids truly feel welcomed and learn and grow on so many levels there. My daughter loves her classes, and the staff is always great. They put on great performances multiple times a year. My one and only complaint is that they really need a 5-10 min gap between the end of one class and the start of the other. Parking is terrible between the gym next door and JIbe. Also, the building is not very big and gets crazy crowded with half the people waiting on their kids class to end and the other half waiting on their kids class to start. Having a 5-10 min gap between classes would help to minimize the crowds. read more

We LOVE jibe studios. We began looking for a dance class for my grand daughter who was 3 at the time. Jibe was the ONLY studio out of 5 I contacted that returned my call. They allowed for a trial week so my granddaughter to check out all the classes they offered in her age group. She picked hip-hop and fell in love with the so sweet and so patient Ms. Shannen!! She loves going every week and also really enjoyed the remote classes when she was out of town for a few weeks. They just did a recital and it was so sweet. My granddaughter has taken classes here for more than 2 years. She started when she was 5 and is almost 8 now. The whole family has attended two Christmas shows and we're about to see our second summer recital. I have gone to nearly every one of my granddaughter's classes during that time. I love this place. It has been a joy to watch my granddaughter grow up. By no means is she a great dancer, but Jibe has immensely helped develop her social skills. This is the BEST dance studio! The teachers truly know and love their students. The mini classes are super fun for the little ones and not too long (40 min). We tried another studio last year due to scheduling, but we recently came back to Jibe and we're SO happy to be back! The owner, Abby, recognized me right away, even though she hadn't seen me in over a year. She remembered BOTH my kids' names, even though only one of them has ever attended Jibe! She taught my daughter's toddler class several years ago, but she remembered my daughter's personality specifically. What a poor excuse for a dance studio, please do not take your kids here. The owner dismissed my 7 year old daughter and two others because they could not participate in a Sunday recital, one child due to religious reasons. We have gone there for 2 years and this is how we are repaid for being a customer and referring friends to her. I have never heard of such nonsense. This made my 7 year old cry, they should not be in business with children with this poor behavior. read more

We love Jibe! Both of my daughters take classes here, as well as myself and we love everything about this studio. It's non competitive so it focuses more on personal growth and pushing yourself at your own limits than other studios where to focus is on being the best. I love that my kids have made amazing friends here, learned to believe in themselves and watched themselves grow as dancers. The owners are amazing, kind, understanding and creative - all good things when you're putting your children's care in their hands. I have never had a problem with anything at Jibe and recommend it to many of my friends because of how wonderful it is. My 6 year old daughter has been taking classes at Jibe Studios for 3 years and she loves it. At Jibe Studios the girls can wear what ever they want. Which is great because my daughter likes to wear different colored tutus that I make for her. Most of the other dance studios are very strict with what they wear and they have to have there hair pulled up in a tight bun. My daughter has taken ballet, tap and hip hop. She wants to try tumbles next. The cost for the classes are cheaper than any other dance studio in San Diego. My daughters favorite teachers are Abby and Chloe. read more

My daughter has been dancing at Jibe for about 2 years. This is a wonderful dance studiio with a family feel. The owners are always around, and involved, they teach many of the classes and clearly enjoy what they do.We have also had sessions with other instructors and have never had one that we did not love. The Studio puts on two very nice shows each year and it is great to see all the girls dance. This is not a competition studio which creates an atmosphere that encourages a love for dance rather than the drive to be the best. Each session the girls learn a new dance and get to "do a show" for their parents at the end of class. They offer a wide variety of classes each day as well as tumbling. They teach adult classes also, I think ballroom and tap. In the summer they put on a 1 week dance camp that my daughter really enjoyed. It was her first "drop-off" experience and she loved it It was fun for her to get to know more of the girls and to interact with the "big girls." The new online registration is great and easy. The prices are reasonable and the class sizes are limited. If you are looking for an encouraging and fun place to start your child in dance class, I would reccomend you give Jibe a try. read more

Such a great dance studio. Have been taking my daughter here since she was 4 and she loves it. Her teacher Ms Abby is great with kids and knows how to bring out their energy. Plenty of recitals and performances throughout the year for the kids and parents to look forward to. This was my daughters second session at Jibe and while her teacher is very nice, I don't feel she is getting all that she should and could from this studio (my daughter is very ambitious at 3 years old and LOVES to dance). The teachers need to remember that these girls are only 3 and 4 years old and don't understand the terminology yet (i.e., 1st and 2nd position). Also, they are more expensive than other studios in the area. I paid $70 for her first session which was 7 weeks and $70 for her second session, which only covered 5 sessions. Was also charged $35 for her costume for the recital, which turned out to be pajamas (probably cost them no more than $15 at The Children's Place), not some cute tutu. Huge disappointment all around! read more
