Resetting pins during the frame!
Steve A.

20 years ago I learned about candlepin bowling in Boston. At some point not long thereafter, I looked up how many different types of bowling there were and learned duckpin existed. But it wasn't near Boston, so I forgot about it. For 20 years. Until I was meeting a friend and looking for things to do near Danbury that would be fun, and this place came up. I couldn't say yes fast enough to the idea. So over we went - I bought lunch, so my friend was buying duck pin. First off, it's way cheaper than bowling lanes, especially in the NYC area. Secondly... it's all duckpin. It's totally not regular bowling. You've never seen anything like this place. It's straight out of the 1950s, literally. The lane mechanics act that old to swipe away pins and reset them. The balls are tiny and you roll them down the lanes. We played 4 games and I lost all 4 miserably and I still love the lanes here. The owner was great fun to talk to, he was born in the 1950s and never grew out of it, just like my dad. He clearly loves the place. My friend did well enough that she's considering joining a league at the duckpin lanes down by her. So all in all, this was tremendous fun and I hope this place never changes or shuts down. Perfection in duck form!

Came here for the first time to try duck pin bowling and had a fun time. Owners were nice and informed us they are usually busy between 1pm - 4pm and wait time could be an hour long. Got here around 1:30pm and was able to get a lane quick for 5 people. Very old fashioned and retro 50s bowling alley. It's not a very big place with 16 lanes, 6 inside for the party room and 10 outside. This place gets busy esp for kids as the balls are much lighter than your standard bowling ball. It's about a 3 lb skee ball - they vary in diameter for grip. They charge by the hour, not by game...so no lolly dollying around. For 5 ppl, takes about an hour a game. Not every expensive if you go with friends and split the cost per hour. Bring your own bowling shoes if you have them - they work for regular and duck pin bowling. Otherwise rental shoes are $1.50/pp. Pay attention the rules: Do not LOB the ball! Scoring, clearing pins and pin reset are all manual! Great refresher for your math skills if you've been so reliant on the automatic scoring machines. LOL. Given we were doing duck pin bowling for the 1st time, you see a lot of gutters (they do have bumpers for the kids) and hearing us reminding each other "pedal" and "door bell, door bell". It was hilarious! Once you get the hang of the game, one can get a spares and strikes. It's definitely not easy but with practice one can do it successfully! I can see why families and kids love it! We will be definitely be back again!

Duckpin Bowling? Still a 10 pin bowling though the pins are shorter and smaller (stout) meanwhile the ball is smaller without any finger holes. The balls have different weights and can fit in one hand. Each player has 3 rolls per frame. In this location, each lane has to manually score (no automated scoring)...good time to use your brain power for strikes and spares. In addition, don't forget to manual step on the pedal to clear the lane of any downed pins and doorbell to reset the frame. Our lane neighbor advised us on what to do during our first outing. This location have 16 lanes (6 lanes are in the party room in a private room). Watch your hand when the ball comes rolling back up. It has a force that can hurt your hand if you are not careful. This place is very charming. It is a house with a lot of history and memorabilias. This is a family owned and operated place. This is great for kids and families. Go try it out...so much fun!

The children had a terrific time bowling, eating snacks, and wearing Halloween costumes! A Great success and the owners could not be nicer!

Considering the fact that 3 hours of unlimited attractions is $43 on its own, the Level Up package is a deal! Plus, I don't have to limit my kids' activities so everyone is happy. My boys loved the Dark Ride, which is an interactive ride with shooting elements, and the bumper cars. There was also a ropes course, rock wall, ninja warrior course, and a ballocity play area. The only bummer was that the mini bowling was out of order, and I know my sons would have loved that.

Better version of Chuck E Cheese…read more The best part of the trip to Xtreme Play was the strapped in aerial obstacle course. Geared towards the younger crowd, adults can partake in the play which was pretty cool. There was enough excitement from the various obstacles to provide a thrill, old and young alike. This was definitely the highlight of the entertainment center. Safety wasn't an issue and there was enough supervision even with the additional risks. There are many arcade games but 1/3 of the games seemed to be out of order for my trip. Not sure if that is because of the package my group paid for. Honestly most of the games were stale. The bumper cars were of the kiddie variety and used levers for movement instead of a steering wheel so it was a little less bump which takes away some of the fun. The overall drive space was smaller so the bumps were more like nudges. The scary 3D movie experience also didn't provide the thrill I was expecting. The aroma of buttery popcorn is very prevalent everywhere in the center, so much so that I swear it's on purpose to make you buy popcorn. The pizza was not impressive but I suppose standard for the course. During my visit the wait for the concession lines were really long. The floors were well cleaned and maintained which is a nice change from the normal food stained floors of most kiddie entertainment centers.

It is an easy place to spend a few hours with friends, and the spacious layout offers something for just about everyone. While I still enjoy visiting, I noticed that one part of the arcade has changed significantly compared to previous visits. The biggest disappointment was the claw machine section. Many of the machines now seem to rely heavily on payout settings rather than consistent claw strength, making it feel like luck and persistence matter more than skill. I also noticed that a number of the prizes have shifted toward lower-value items like packaged snacks and small novelty prizes instead of the plushes and collectibles that originally drew me to play. Because of that, I found myself spending less time on the crane games than I used to. The rest of the arcade remains the strongest part of the experience. There is still an excellent selection of video games, including Japanese rhythm games, racing games, and other arcade classics that are difficult to find elsewhere. Bowling, billiards, and karaoke also provide plenty of entertainment, making it easy to spend an entire afternoon or evening here without relying on the prize machines. The facility itself is clean, well maintained, and large enough that it rarely feels cramped, even when it gets busy. Staff kept the space organized throughout my visit, and everything outside of the claw machine area felt like it was running smoothly. Overall, Round1 at Danbury Fair Mall is still a fun destination for arcade games, bowling, and group outings. While I no longer recommend it as strongly for claw machine enthusiasts, it remains a great place to enjoy the wide variety of games and activities the venue has to offer.

I would definitely go to check out the arcade! The little food area was so dirty. There was no organization and tables were left with all types of trash. There is a kiosk where you order your food if you don't want to wait in line to order and you can pick it up from the front. There was no paper to get a ticket for the food. When we went to pick up our food, we waited for almost an hour to get our food. People who were there after us were getting their food so I went to ask what was going on and literally 5 mins later we got our food. It wasn't great. The fries were good. The chicken fingers and the mozzarella sticks tasted plain and unseasoned. There is also alcohol served with one drink per ID. I will be coming back since the arcade was really fun but not for the food.

The atmosphere is contemporary, casual, and really cool. There is bowling, a conference room, fire pits, outdoor seating (overlooking the parking lot ), a dining area, a pizza area, and a bar. The restaurant is huge! Restrooms super clean. The hostess was very nice when she greeted us at the door. We sat at the bar where we met Chris the bartender and his team. Chris was incredibly professional, attentive, kind, and helpful; we really appreciated him. The food was very good and the appetizers were really generous: recommend calamari, and the crispy brussels sprouts as they are delicious. Also, good are the sandwiches which we tried getting the open salmon cooked to perfection! A full bar exists with every option of beverage. Not being from the area, it took a little time to find where the entrance of the restaurant was, but that is not the fault of the restaurant, but rather the Mall. Just drive up to the very top level! And also pay for your parking as I learned from Chris that they check license plates on vehicles to make sure. Learned of the brunch at Pinstripes, and hope to be back in the near future to try it! Got to say we really enjoyed the experience and the food. As they say in bowling, it was a strike LOL!

Our server couldn't just clearly explain that we couldn't do that, and kept saying "you can order one of each but each one would be the full price" (which makes no sense and is obviously not what I wanted). He seemed very agitated and annoyed so I asked him to calm down, which seemed to make him even more upset. While I was trying to order something else, he asked if I wanted another server, and I said no and tried to move on, but then he walked off anyway. A different server came over a few minutes later after we went searching for one, and cleared it all up in seconds. Later, when we asked the original server for help with bumpers for the kids, he said "I'm no longer your server" and walked away again. Not to mention they don't allow multiple cards for food orders, with prices that rival movie theaters. All this with bad service to boot? No thanks. The bowling itself was fine, and the arcade looked fun, but this server's attitude and inability to communicate really soured the visit.

Bright neon colors dot the midnight black wall in the shape of planets, bowling pins and geometric shapes. This comes to life and dances off the walls once the black lights come on. In addition to the upgraded screens they have removed the pro shop and added a new game area dubbed "fun zone". This new area rockets the bowling lane into the current decade. This is a long awaited face lift that Lakewood Lanes has been missing for years and an answer to the frequently heard comment from customers that the lanes were "antiquated". Great place for families, kids and adults to enjoy year round. Leave the food outside as they sport an eatery that is serving up anything from breakfast sandwiches to burgers and fries. If your a serious bowler you will still feel that the updates were not meant for you. The scoring consoles are in desperate need of a technology upgrade. Also, the pin system in back is still ancient. Hopefully the issues that would improve the experience for die hard bowlers will be addressed next. Looking for something fun to do? I suggest giving this neighborhood spot another chance.
