I like to judge an eating place by its soups. This is because it takes a lot of time to prepare and you can't really charge a lot for them. So if they are good it's because the cooks care about good food. By this metric, Dana's Kitchen scores off the charts. Their Portuguese Kale Soup is wonderfully flavorful made from vividly tasty kale and zesty linguiça sausage. Their matzoh ball chicken soup is superb. I have never had a soup here that was not competently made from excellent ingredients and several that were stellar. Venturing past the soup bowl one finds great sandwiches including a Reuben that would please most New Yorkers. The baked goods are tempting and satisfying. My favorite is the coconut macaroons. The fact that the place is run by two graduates of the Culinary Institute of America who delight in good food is easily discerned. read more

Also when we asked after our orders 30 minutes in, Dana shrugged and said "it's August on the cape...this is Dana's place". Loved this place! My Sister and I frequently go out to lunch and we had never tried Dana's before so we decided to try. Upon entering, we were immediately greeted with friendly staff members who informed us of all the days specials. There were probably 10 specials and a permanent menu as well. The specials change daily and I was told if Id like they can be emailed to me in the mornings, which I thought was great. I had a soft shell crab sandwich, it was delicious! Definitely a generous portion of crab, nice thick bread so it was easily handled and very filling! The aioli they used complimented the crab perfectly! I will definitely be back! read more

Our favorite on the Cape for pastries. Our family makes it a habit of going to Dana's early in the morning and picking up scones, sticky buns and croissants when they are just coming out of the oven. Cannot be beat. Also, be sure to try their clam chowder and fish chowder. The best on the Cape. We buy them by the quarts. We found this place that was highly rated on Yelp and realized it was featured on Triple D, so it's got to be good, right? So completely wrong, I would say it's far below average. The biggest problem? The owner's attitude. I get it, you're nearing the end of the summer on the Cape, but when you are swearing at your customers under your breath but noticeable enough to everyone in line- like come on. Just plain rude and so completely unnecessary. She seemed to treat her staff like she owned them, but when they came to deliver the food they were so nice. I almost said, "How do you work for her?" My boyfriend had the club sandwich, it was mediocre at best. Lacked flavor and at the price point it was disappointing. I had the spicy BLT and it was gross. Proportions of the ingredients were way off and I ended up just picking at it. Also the bacon seemed old and bread also seemed like it was a day old, or more? Maybe this place was a go-to spot years ago, but certainly not anymore. I would highly suggest you find ANYWHERE ELSE than to succumb yourself to this disappointing establishment. read more

Dana and her husband, Art are some of the most kindhearted, gentle, and wonderful people you could ever hope to meet. They also happen to be PHENOMENAL chefs. Everything from the pastries and cookies to the soup and sandwiches are out of this world. The restaurant is nestled on a quiet wooded street that lends it self nicely to dining outside and enjoying the more wooded side of Falmouth. I consider myself to be a quiche connoisseur and their quiche is BY FAR the best I have ever had the honor to eat. Their prices are reasonable and the staff helpful and smiling. Shockingly delicous! Seems like your typical sandwich spot until you taste the flavorful and inventive menu with fresh ingredients. I love the falafel, the salads are great, the cookies are delicious, and my wife is obsessed with the chicken salad on challah bread. The service is a tad slow but good and the owner is friendly and hilarious. We ate here everyday for a week, no joke, and then realized it was breaking the bank. It's not the cheapest, but worth it for a nice fresh lunch on the patio. read more

What a wonderful lunch! I would say this is the best place to go for a salad in Falmouth. It was an all around great experience from the freshness and variety of the food to the service! The owners were working themselves and very friendly! We had Maddelein as a waitress and she was so nice and willing to accommodate us in anyway she said it was her job. As a waitress myself for many years I saw great quality and her service! Stopped to pick up food for lunch today. Called it in, and the girl on the phone sounded very young and inexperienced, not quite sure what she was doing. Upon arrival, I was told the sandwich I called in was unavailable. Not quite sure why the girl would take my order if they were out, and then not call me back? The other sandwich I got was good, but it was such a process to order/pick up. Pricey also, 2 sandwiches were 30 dollars. I also noticed the "homemade" pastries looked very similar to ones served at other bakeries in Falmouth, and had flies on them. No AC added to the horrible experience. My husband and I have been driving by Dana's kitchen for several years, always saying we wanted to try it. Well this weekend we finally did. One word: Underwhelming. Breakfast selection was light and extremely expensive. 1 croissant + 1 slice of quiche + 1 small coffee = $18. I tried to do the math to figure out how much each cost and still couldn't believe it. One of our favorite places. It's awesome to sit outside on the picturesque deck in the summer. The owners could not be friendlier. They make great soups and sandwiches, with super fresh ingredients. Our favorites are the Dana Club, the Reuben, and the fish sandwich when they have it. I have been coming to Dana's for years. It has the best, freshest, most delicious salads, sandwiches, specials and baked goods anywhere. Dana and Art are the most dedicated and customer focused restaurant owners and hosts I have ever met. Their catering is also superb. I highly recommed the beet and fig garden salad and the soft-shell crab sandwich (lightly battered, baked, not fried, and fresh). But you can't go wrong with anything you order. And they will customize whatever you want. It is a family-run, informal gourmet breakfast and lunch place where you'll meet and make friends. We eat at Dana's frequently. In my opinion, some of the reviews are off quite a bit. First, the sandwiches are huge. I always get a cranberry walnut chicken salad and I have to take 1/2 of it home fairly regularly. I also can get that same meal without the bread and it's substantial so I don't know what the contractor in a previous review is talking about. Yes, Art (the guy at the counter) loves to talk especially with locals--well, welcome to small town Cape Cod--and we're proud of it. However, we've been served in a reasonable time frame. My wife loves the spicy BLT and the smoked salmon sandwich for a lighter meal. The chicken soup with matzo balls is also very good. So if you want a casual lunch, visit Dana's. read more

Not sure about all the hype. We stopped here for lunch today. We had to wait exactly 1 hour and 53 minutes to order food and be served. The chopped liver was heavy, cold and bland. The smoked salmon which is advertised as a special dish was simply plain: cream cheese topped with smoked salmon. What is so special about this sandwich? I went today and had their Scottish Salmon Sandwich. It was an open-faced, substantial, plump, fresh, not-salty salmon with slightly salty capers on top, covering a cream cheese, crunchy red onion filling on perfectly toasted pumpernickel bread. Everything complemented every other ingredient and it was the best sandwich I've eaten in many years. The one HUGE downside of the service at this otherwise nice place is that they are incredibly slow. Came by off-peak at 1:30 pm to order a sandwich. 15 minutes in line to place an order, only to find out that it would be another 20-30 minutes to get a standard off-the-menu sandwich. Really?
