Dan is now doing hair in Wyoming and I do not recommend. I went into have a basic trim and he talked me into a partial perm and cut. He styled it and I looked great. But then when I went to wash and style it, it was atrocious! A few days later I made an appointment with another salon and the stylist was shocked at the poor quality of the cut and perm. She corrected the cut and showed me how to style my hair and said it will take about 6-8 weeks before it grows out enough to relax. I used to take 10 minutes tops to style my hair. Now it takes upwards of 30 minutes to get it to look okay and not frizzy. I paid over $200 for something I will regret for a long time. read more

Including the most beautiful spiral perm the early 1990s could offer a kid), but also did my hair for my wedding in 2012. He is so friendly, fun, and talented! After just "throwing" my hair up in a trial 'do, I was in tears (of happiness) and ALL 4 of my bridesmaids, who had previously wanted to do their own hair, changed their minds immediately and asked him to style their hair as well. Dan gave me a beautiful new do - I showed him a picture and he patiently spent hours foiling my long brown hair to blond, and then balayaged enough brown back in to give it depth and cut it into a great style that looked exactly like what I showed him. I'm pretty antsy and it was hard for me to sit still for all the foiling and processing, but he kept me entertained with stories about living on the island. Dan is such a pleasure to work with! He did hair for me, my bridesmaids and mom on my wedding day & did an excellent job for all of us. He is blazing fast and excellent at his craft. I knew when I went in for my hair trial that I had nothing to worry about because even though I arrived 30 minutes late & gave him only 30 minutes to work with, he created 3 different looks very quickly (including curling my hair within that time) and helped ease any nerves I had about entrusting my hair to someone who wasn't familiar with my hair. The day of, Dan arrived perfectly on time & had all the girls laughing & at ease. If you're booking Dan, I would highly recommend also booking Jessica Waite -- she's equally fab and they work so well as a team. I was on Maui for a babymoon, and had been pool swimming everyday for months. My hair was dry, and over-bleached, and hay-like. My husband and I decided to have pictures taken while we were there, so I booked an emergency appointment with Dan to have the colour fixed, have a cut, and hope he could make me look presentable. The experience was perfection. The salon is comfortable, but nothing over the top. He is warm, and lovely, and thoughtful, and an artist. The conversation was genuine and enjoyable, he listened thoroughly, and I could tell I was in expert hands. Several days later my hair is still feeling healthy, and looks terrific. Dan was just wonderful. We recently moved here from the mainland and I was very nervous to start with a new stylist. I had been going to my current, beautiful high end salon for 15 years. I chose Dan based on the many reviews I read. I couldn't be more pleased. My color looks amazing and my hair feels softer, I have been getting so many compliments. My boyfriend found Dan and his salon via yelp, and he had amazing reviews ~ so we called for an urgent "hair emergency"... (Basically I went scuba diving with hair extensions and my hair ended up as matted as a Golden Retriever who hasn't been combed in years!!) Because of the great reviews on yelp, we called .... He said he had an appointment to go to away from the salon from 4:30 to 5:30 , but could see me after that. WOW!!! What an angel!!!!How awesome that he would come back to the salon after his day should have been over to help a random person!!! He was so super nice on the phone I thought this guy was awesome and I would be in good hands .... I'm sure I would have been in good hands had he shown up. The sweet stylist in the salon texted him after about 30 minutes (and all the while she was helping to start to pick the tangles out of my hair, bless her heart) and finally called him after about 45 minutes after my appointment. I could hear him speaking with her and he literally just said "um, I can't get back there tonight", and offered to see me in the morning. I can TOTALLY understand that this was a total inconvenience for him, and I appreciate him saying yes in the first place, but the fact that he didn't bother to call or even send a text that he wasn't going to be able to make it blew my mind .... I spent $40 on cab rides from my resort for nothing, not to mention took an entire evening out of our vacation to wait for him. I normally only write good reviews on yelp, but since I went solely on yelp reviews to find this person, and had this experience~ I felt the need to share it with others .... Perhaps something unfortunate happened to him as the reason he couldn't make it, but hearing him speak with the lady in the salon it sure sounded as if it were an appointment that totally slipped his mind ..... I don't think I'm being unreasonable since we had only made the appointment two hours earlier, to at least expect a text or call from him if he changed his mind about taking my appointment. Im sure he is very talented, as there are many great reviews to back that up ...... I stumbled upon Dan and couldn't be more happy with my haircut and the service !!!! He tells you his honest opinion if something will look good on you or go well with your daily routine ! He took his time and suggested tips ! All this with him knowing I don't live here and am only a one time visitor , although highly thinking about flying to Maui every 3 months for a haircut. Haha! I'll start off by saying that Dan Sanchez is a personable guy and had found him through internet so I chose to get my hair done by him. It is hard to figure out what vendors to go with via online for a destination wedding.Once we got to Maui I scheduled my hair trial and showed and explained to him what I wanted and even though he said he was going to have to refresh and retrain himself on how to do that certain wave for that style, I didn't seem to worried about it, I trusted him. He managed to do a wave somewhat like it but it wasn't something to pay $150 for. I'm not going to say I was unhappy with the hair because it wouldn't be fair to him but what I do want to point out is to always make sure you read the contract thoroughly and try to pay him in advance and not your wedding day. I had a last minute drop out for hair and still had to pay $95 which was ok since it did state that in the contract(but being that I still had given him 6 girls hairdos and myself for business,I was hoping he would cut me some slack,but ok he didn't..I understood .Everyone was done and I was in another room getting dressed and you can imagine the chaos with everything going on trying to get ready ,So he then was finished with all the girls apparently, so he had my sister in law pop her head in the room where I was getting dressed so that I can sign the credit slip at which moment,I didn't look at totals or tax or anything, I just signed..I was already a bit stressed and wedding nerves were kicking in:). It turns out he never applied our deposit to our total balance and he charges over 10% in tax. I called him a day after the wedding and he said to email him, we did(many times) and as of today,6 months later, no response. My husband had called him and left several call messages(which were unreturned) and so we decided to try one last time and he actually picked up the phone and told my husband that he's busy,that he would call my husband back in 20 minutes. 20 minutes came and went..days..another month and no phone call.We felt we were mellow about the whole thing but it just sucked being ignored and disregarded. Dan knew the situation because he said"oh yeah,you're calling about the deposit right" and never seemed to want to correct it. Sadly, this would be the ONLY reason I don't recommend him. It is not the way to treat a customer especially with all the business we gave him that day. I didn't expect that from him at all because he seemed like a funny likeable person. Unfortunately, that doesn't give us our deposit back. Just budgeting for a wedding is hard enough and that money could have gone towards something else then.... It wasn't even about the money anymore, it was about the principal. Plus I highly suggest that with being in Maui..just do a few curls in your hair,bobbypin them and spray humidity resistant hairspray, add a flower and voila! You don't need to spend thousands of dollars for hair out there, the natural look is much better and unfortunately, I learned the hard way! read more

I have chosen Dan's salon after researching South Maui's bridal hair styling places for our destination wedding on Maui (criteria: Kihei area and good reviews). Little did I know how perfect my choice was!!! Dan responded to my emails, was interested in my expectations and asked for pics of my current hair and my bridal style ideas - doing his homework. Then personally called to confirm and add advice for the day of. I was impressed. My hair is healthy, but very fine and just below shoulder. Dan reassessed the style I wanted, asked for a bit of creative license and out of that fine hair he conjured up a romantic bridal style that exceeded my hopes (and withstood the breeze and Maui's humidity). Dan's wonderful personality, artistry, and fundamental knowledge of all-things-hair are the main three points why I would recommend Dan Sanchez Salon to any bride choosing Maui for her wedding - whether it is hair, makeup (thank you, Lori Davis!), or other services. Dan is fabulous! A gifted artist, and he has a great sense of humor. I have been going to the same stylist for 5 years on the mainland and was a bit relucatant to branch out and try a new stylist. But due to a crazy schedule I reached out to Dan while I was on vacation and he was able to see me for a cut and color and used balayage technique.....very impressive and he did an amazing job. If you want a long-lasting hairstyle on your wedding day, please DO NOT CHOOSE Dan Sanchez. As part of a wedding party, I asked for a simple style - loose curls and a simple braid. I submitted the style to Dan in advance, and as I didn't hear anything back, I assumed this was a style he could do well. I was wrong -- my curls were falling out and looking drab 20 minutes after I left the salon. And the way he pinned the bobby pins for the braid had them falling out right away. I had to have my hair restyled by a friend an hour after leaving the salon.... not what you want to deal with on a busy wedding day. I've been a bridesmaid multiple times and I've never had an issue with curls and bobby pins falling out. Unfortunately, the bridesmaids and bride also had the same experience - really disappointing, especially after Dan talked so much about being a celebrity hairstylist. Dan spent too much time flirting and trying to be charming and not enough time concentrating on being a professional stylist. On top of it all, he overcharged all of us, and we had to get a portion of our money back. Dan Sanchez was the MOST EXPENSIVE AND WORST bridesmaid hairstyle I've experienced. I've stopped by the salon during my visit to maui for a last minute hair cut and coloring before my next destination and Dan happily accepted my last minute need for a hair appointment. He is very friendly, nice and accommodating, which made the whole experience much more enjoyable than a long, grueling wait. This guys has some hair skills but is VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. He slacks on returning phone calls (unless he needs $$) and in general can't be relied on. He also won't accept payments until the day of weddings because he wants to get a large tip while the bride is walking on clouds on her big day. Okay here come the best Yelp review ever! So Dan is pretty much amazeballs! I called in the morning to ask for a haircut because, let's face it, my hair was as neglected as that neighbor who keeps a dozen rusting cars in his yard for years; sun scorched, broken down, wind blown, and in need of some serious TLC! Even though he was busy he had me come in anyway and was able to devote a lot of time analyzing my dreadful locks. He asked a lot of great questions and basically gave my hair an interview! He wanted to know how much I maintained it, where I work (outside on the ocean and in the sun), made sure I was comfortable with his suggestion and generally made my whole experience the best hair treatment I've had for YEARS! I'm a super low maintenance girl and he gave my hair a healthy cut that works well with my work life! On top of that he was happy, funny and had me laughing as soon as I walked in the door. I called some other salons with 5 star ratings & the prices half as much. If you can spend the money, you'll be happy. I should have asked first. What a total disappointment! All the bridesmaids hair was poorly done and all ended falling out very early in the day. The braids done on two of the bridesmaids were terrible! I have pics to prove this! What is the worst I haven't even mentioned the bride! Who had to have her hair redone by a friend right before her cermony! Talk about stress! He also over charged us which seems to be a common theme! I would not recommend him at all! It's just not worth the money or stress!!!!
