I am not a big food truck person but I am a big pizza person and this place has amazing reviews, so I had to check them out. I visited them on a Thursday night and the staff was very friendly and Dan helped me pick out two pizzas. I went with the pepperoni and the special. The pizzas did take a little longer than expected but there is lots of seating and the outdoor atmosphere is very nice. There is even an indoor pub area! The pizzas, particularly the special was incredible!!! Would highly recommend! read more

Tried this last week and it lived up to the hype. Excellent pizza, my only wish was it was a bit bigger. We got both a white and red pizza last week to go. Now Dan tells you it's much better right out of the oven so we tried a slice and he was right but in no way was it bad when we arrived home 10 minutes later. Both pizzas were amazing. Sarasota quietly becoming quite a good pizza place with Tralia, Capo Pazzo, Sicilia (Venice) and now Dan Apizz'!!!! read more

Well this was a most amazing find! Dan (from Amalfi Coast, Italy) is superbly talented. The finest ingredients he uses are apparent right away. His crust is like none other I've had. I had the White Pepps and my companions had Margarita pizzas. Both visits were when Dan's truck was parked at the Sun King Brewery. A great fun casual spot with both indoor and outdoor dining. So it was a double treat as the craft beers at Sun King are excellent. You must follow his social, as he changes spots and you'll need to make sure you get there before he runs out of dough. Dan Apizz' Man absolutely blew me away. The wood-fired oven adds just the right amount of smoky flavor, and the crust is charred to perfection with a chewy interior that defines New Haven pizza. I ordered the pepperoni, white pepps, and margarita, and I genuinely haven't stopped thinking about it since. The spicy-sweet balance was spot on, and the ingredients tasted incredibly fresh. You can tell Dan cares about every pie that comes out of that oven. This isn't just good pizza "for Florida"--this is legitimately some of the best New Haven-style pizza I've had anywhere. Do NOT miss out on this apizza!!!!! I am a true pizza snob, raised eating New Haven apizza and Dan is the real deal! Not only is the pizza absolutely amazing, he is absolutely amazing! I am visiting a friend 4 hours north of his truck and have no problem driving down to get a few pies, because IT IS THAT GOOD! Dan even left them at a temperature that I could take them back up the 4 hour drive and finish them off in the oven so my friends (whom are originally from New Haven) could enjoy and it did not disappoint anyone. Dan introduced me to a New Haven pizza page online while I was there because he is truly in love with all things New Haven Pizza. There were a couple other patrons there (from New Haven county nonetheless), and there's a reason we are flocking to him. If you eat there (which you must at least have a slice or 5 lol) there's tables and it's dog friendly. I can't wait to go back for more. Give him a call to make sure he's there or a follow on his IG but whatever you do, don't skip this place! read more

Came here at 3pm on the dot to make sure they wouldn't run out of pizza lol. Literally one of the best pizzas I have ever had (in the same conversation with Lucali's in Brooklyn). 0 flop, sauce is super flavorful, and the crust is life changing. The cheese isn't overpowering and just melts in your mouth. You can't stop eating it until the whole pie's gone. You HAVE to come here- it will change your life forever. Sausage and mushroom. Undercooked and soggy. Sausage is similar to Dominos, pale, greasy and not real Italian sausage. Sauce is good but a little heavy on the sugar. Minimal amount of cheese. I grew up South of Boston, where South Shore Bar pizza was the only pizza we ate. After hearing #daveportnoy rave about New Haven-style pizza, I had to give it a try, so I started doing my research and found Dan Apizza Man New Haven Style close by in Sarasota. Let me tell you, the pizza was phenomenal, and I've never had crust like that before. We enjoyed a tomato and cheese pizza and a Margarita pizza, and loved them both. Not only is his pizza great, but Dan is also great to talk to, as we were communicating on social media for a few days before our visit. We're already looking forward to our next visit. Pizza for breakfast? I was walking through the Sarasota Farmer's Market this morning when I came across the Il Petraro food truck. In a previous life I used to eat cold pizza for breakfast. I checked Yelp and saw Il Petraro was listed, albeit with no reviews yet. That encouraged me to walk over to see what they had. They were just finishing getting set up, it wasn't even 8am. I asked if they did personal sized pizza and thought he said yes. I was handed a menu and when I spotted the words Meat Lovers that's what I ordered. It was ready in under 6 minutes. The pizza was large, I'd estimate 12", but not hefty. When I ordered he described the pizza as thin crust and well done. It was both. The edge of the pie was charred and by the time I finished my hands were black, but I never noticed any burnt flavor. In fact, the pizza was very good. The meat part was just pepperoni and ground sausage, and with the thin crust I was able to eat the entire pie without feeling overly full. I suppose for me it was personal sized after all - lol. While I would have preferred more toppings, enjoying an early morning hot and flavorful pizza was still quite a treat. read more

At my request my husband picked up four pies for our family yesterday. It has been so hard to find decent pizza since I left NY in 96. They greatly exceeded my expectations. If you want legit northern style pizza, I couldnt recommend more. DELICIOUS!!! I have tried pizza from every where recommended and it was always missing something. I grew up 10 minutes from New Haven and spent half the week getting Apizza until I moved to Florida about 5 years ago. Modern, Pepe's, Bar, Sally's, Little Rendevous... For me, it's one of the things I miss most about back home and the newer Pepe's down in Florida are still hours away. When my girlfriend and I stopped by today, we forgot that we were in Florida while we were eating. I was instantly taken back home when I had the delicious plain tomato pie. Trying to order that down here in Florida usually causes confusion and gets crazy looks, but Dan knew exactly what he was doing. The white pepps hot honey was phenomenal as well, with the perfect balance of hot honey. I have had hot honey a few times on pizza and typically find it overpowering, but this was the perfect amount that made the flavors blend beautifully. Dan is an incredibly nice guy and a great chef, and you can see the passion in each of the pies he serves. Loved the char, and we will coming back every few weeks for sure for our taste of home. read more

Totally here to confirm another Yelper who said this is the best pizza in Florida. My husband and I both love a good thin-crust pizza in a brick oven --and this is it!! We usually catch them on Fridays at Sun King or on Saturdays at Sarasota Farmer's Market. We try not to go more than 2 weeks without their pizza. The pepperoni is our favorite, but we also get the white pizza and add our own toppings when we get home (chicken, onions, etc.). Enjoy!! read more

I've been wanting to try this pizza for a long time, but where I live and there hours have made it difficult. I finally made it to the Farmers Market last Saturday and got the plain pie. It was not memorable, the crust was OK, not cripsy enough and although thin, lacked a chew. The sauce needed some flavors it tasted, to me, like just plain tomatoe sauce. It did not make me wanting to go back, but I would give them a try again, as first time may have just been a hit. read more

Our server was right over and got us started with drinks while we looked over the menu. She was so nice, attentive, helpful, and upbeat for the entire time we were there, a real pleasure. As for the food, we decided to split their Greek Salad and a Prosciutto Arugula 12" pizza. They offer both 12 and 18" pies. This was not the pizza I would have selected, I'm more a Meat Lovers Supreme carnivore, but it was my wife's choice tonight. I thought the salad was pretty standard, lots of Feta cheese and a generous amount of dressing in a container. My wife left me all the red onion slivers, maybe not her best decision, and took almost all of the olives. The salad was still fine, lots of green. Our pizza was also brightly green, what with all the arugula on top. Like more salad. But underneath was an excellent pizza crust, like they describe on their menu with a bit of NY char. While I missed all the greasy meat, the prosciutto was very flavorful, a top of the line ingredient. A hint of truffle oil added to the mix and pieces of a hard Parmesan cheese (Parmigiano Reggiano) added more. I have to admit, it was a pretty good pizza.

Our origin salad with roasted vegetables was terrific as were our pizzas. My wife had the Siesta Key pizza with turkey sausage while I opted for sausage, mushroom, onion and green pepper pizza. The crust is relatively thin and doughy so it absorbs the toppings and oil. The Buc's clinched their division and we all celebrated. Plenty of parking between a private lot and the street. Near the hospital so quiet on Sundays. I understand the wings are very good so perhaps next time? Coming soon to the Rosemary District as well.

The appetizer was really good but I think it could have been elevated a notch if the dip was more of a lemon base dipping sauce. The pizzas were both thin and very tasty, nice tomato base, I liked the little difference of crust (thin & crunchy) compared to your normal softer crust on an Italian wood fired pizza. I like when I'm able to have preferences on pizza crusts on any given day. I would like to go back and try something else next time to see what this little spot has to offer.
