We got our tree December 1st and the picture of what it looks like in January- still beautiful as when we first got it! We've been going to this lot for 15+ years. I drove into the lot with my daughter at 7:57 PM, and I noticed some of the workers piling into a truck. Some others were tying trees onto someone's car. I asked one of the workers "are you guys closing? "And he said they were. I asked him what time they closed... He looked at someone else, and then replied 8 PM. I noticed it still was a few minutes until 8 - their own website says they close at 9pm - and while disappointing, I didn't make anything out of it. My daughter and I wanted to still look at the trees as it was the first evening we had available together in a while. So we got out and were looking around. A few minutes in the gentleman managing that evening pulled his truck up and said "you know we're closed right?" I let him know that yes I knew that, that they had to leave early even though a paying customer was there while they were open, we were just looking around, and I would take my business elsewhere. It was a perfect opportunity for them to make at least $200, there whole team was there...not to mention the Christmas spirit and all that. There was also the tone and attitude. He/they could not have been more unhelpful or rude. It's unfortunate, but experiences like that will be remembered by the children involved, and the customers involved. This isn't the first time I've had a customer service issue there, but it's certainly the last time. Good riddance. There are several places nearby offering better quality trees, more types, and better prices - including both churches on Mass. Ave less than 2 blocks away. Good luck out there. read more

We've used sun backs for decades, and now the people that run, the Treestand are rude, unhelpful, and nasty.

What a disappointment. After several years of going to Sundbacks and the first few years under the new management, we are never going back. Service was good but the prices were 2-3 times higher than last year for a Fraser and the tree was smaller than we usually get and had a bend in the trunk that made it lean in the stand. We will give this tree to our neighbors and start again. So much for memories and brand loyalty. read more

After a great experience last year with a beautiful, fresh tree from the Chevy Chase location, returned this year expecting the same (accepting the prices as high for premium quality and local sourcing). Unfortunately, this year's tree was dropping needles as soon as we got it home, and has been thinning daily. Had hoped it was just a couple of branches, but it isn't drinking any water. Disappointing that the tree isn't fresh, we won't be able to enjoy it long, and it leaves a daily mess. read more

This is NOT Sundback's!!!!!!! These trees are just like every other lot - dense cone shaped trees that have been shaped with a machete. Sundback's used to have a diagram showing the difference between a natural tree and a tree that has been pre-cut into shape. The branches are too close together and the ornaments don't hang correctly. Anyone know where you can fins a goof tree like the ones Sundback's used to sell? read more

First Xmas in DC, so I was forced to feel out a new place from which to buy the perfect tree. I found Dan and Brian on Yelp and decided to take the leap of faith. Turns out I made the right choice, much to the satisfaction of my EXTREMELY picky partner. The lot had beautiful, fragrant trees that were robust, and were well priced. The guys were super friendly and helpful. I chatted with one of the guys while he placed a tree on top of my jeep and tied it down for me. The entire visit took about 20 mins. The tree made is safely home, and it looks absolutely gorgeous! My guess is that I will be back to see them next year! FYI: I paid $96 for a BEAUTIFUL 8ft Fraser Fir. My family and I have been going to this tree farm for about 10 years. I was quoted one price, went out to the trees in 31 degree freezing rain where my guys chopped down and drug the tree back to the car only for the lady to change the price!!! $50 higher than what we were expecting to pay. Also the tree was measured at a slant. We measured it just under 9 ft, she measured 9 ft 1 inch and so charged for a ten ft tree. Their focus has become less about family and traditions and more about the commercial aspect. Thanks lady for trying to ruin our Christmas traditions! (After telling us you were grateful your tree inventory was low and you were happy to be only open two weekends) I'm heartbroken and disgusted! Now to find a new friendlier place. read more

Great location, great service, prices seem reasonable for DC. I got a 5ft. tree for $42 including tax. They helped load it in my car (and would have put it on top if I wanted).The tree smells amazing and its beautiful, even if I picked a small one for my apartment. They had a good selection of different sized trees from the 4-5ft smallest to large 9ft, probably. They take card! read more

The thought and science that goes into these trees is amazing. My husband and I had the great honor of living next door to Eric and Gloria Sundback for a number of years - they were the former owners of Dan & Bryan's Christmas Trees. Sundbacks taught us that the style of tree starts many years before the sale - think of furniture styles or paint colors. The fact that Dan & Bryan's trees are hand trimmed makes them extra special, and the longevity of these fresh cut trees has always amazed us - Eric &Gloria would always invite us over to see the Christmas tree around Valentines Day and it still looked amazeing. read more

Every year without fail, Dan & Bryan's (formerly Sundback) Christmas Trees fill the air with the yuletide aroma of Douglas and Fraser firs. For as long as I can remember, these guys have been supplying Christmas trees to the DC area (mainly, I'd assume, neighborhoods like Spring Valley, Tenleytown and Glover Park) for as long as I can remember. A 6 foot Douglas cost us $79 this year. The fella who cut the tree mounted it onto our car free of charge. In all it took about 10 minutes from parking to getting the tree. Go during a weekday if you can; it's a lot less crowded than it can get at night and on weekends. read more

DO NOT buy a tree from these people, particularly if you want delivery. Their trees are pricey to begin with and when picking tree on their lot, I asked about delivery cost, Fred (very nice guy) told me delivery was included in tree price ($132 including tax). When he delivered last night with Zach, he tried to collect another $132 for the visit. No sane person pays $264 for a 7' tree. It was a shake-down. Of course we did not pay usurious delivery cost but we did tip them generously in cash. Avoid these guys. read more

I returned to Dan and Bryan's after a few years of having tried to support fundraising efforts by local schools and will never stray again for Christmas tree shopping! I purchased our 8' Frasier Fir (Griffin was wonderfully helpful!) on Friday, December 1st and put it up that weekend. The tree remained gorgeous and fresh up until yesterday, when we sadly took it down. Even after five weeks, it still smelled great and had only dropped a few needles. We have been going here for years to get our trees. They are expensive, but they come with a hole drilled in the bottom, and if you have their stand, it is a snap to set up the tree- almost. The original firm sold to Dan and Bryan a couple do years ago. This year, when we arrived at the lot, the guy running it was surly at best. I found a tree, which looked like it might have had a leaning spine, and asked about it. Was assured it was the slope of the land it was on. Flat out lie. Got the thing home, and it. Is leaning badly. When we put the tree up, we noticed that the drill hole was very off-center, so that may be the problem. My husband and I are older, he is blind, we were not lugging the thing back, so we called and called and called. Three numbers, no answer. We tried the internet , got one response asking for more information and hVe neared nothing back since we responded. If this was a fifty dollar tree, it would be okay, but not when you pay over $100. It turns out that there are other places in town that have the drill-hole, so this is our last tree from here. This is a good place gone bad. read more
