I ate here when I was in Modesto for a couple of days for work. Marriott Springhill Suites' front desk recommended this place and Damian is only about two blocks from the hotel, so I gave it a try. What I ate: - Fish Tacos - served with rice and beans on the side The fish tacos were okay. The tortilla are deep fried but I actually prefer my tacos with the soft corn tortilla (like they do at the taco trucks). The beans and rice were typically decent. $7.95 - Chicken Taquitos (appetizers) - three taquitos, cut in half (so six pieces), served on top of sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes, and avacado The taquitos were also typically decent. They were crispy with just enough chicken. $8.95 - Horchata - served with ice in a plastic cup (with 1 free refill) Typical horchata, which I like. $1.60 - FREE tortilla chips and pita chips - served with one dish of salsa and one dish of bean dip... this was perhaps the highlight of the dinner! I am used to getting free tortilla chips at Mexican restaurants, but the pita chips were a very welcoming addition! =) *FREE* Nothing really stood out at this restaurant, but it's definitely not bad. The service was friendly but again, nothing stood out. I'd come again to try the fajitas that others have mentioned. read more

I went to Damian's with my girlfriend and her parents and wasn't sure what to expect, but I have to say I was happy with Damian's food quality. For starters, they offer both corn and flour chips which I think is great. I like the crunchiness of the corn chips and the flaky flour chips. They have a wide selection of of foods from enchiladas, tacos, empanadas, and burritos. I had the carne asada burrito, wet, and I have to say it was pretty good. I also saw that they had horchata and couldn't pass up the chance. Overall Damian's is good mexican food, offering a wide selection of entrees. The decor and location are a bit sketchy, but don't let that be a reason to pass it up. read more

5-14-12 We had family visiting from the east coast. we all wanted Mexican food and decided to go to Damian's. I have had wonderful experiences there in the past. This time it was terrible. The waitress never smiled one time. Staff was slow to serve us and the food was very poor quality. the one star was for mango margarita which was decent but barely had any alcohol in it. Please I want the old Damian's back from 3 or 4 years ago. I won't be returning until I see some outstanding reviews from other patrons. Been a while since we visited Damian's so we treated our grandson to go with us. Not sure if this is a post covid help shortage issue but worst service ever. We we're seated, three of us only two waters brought, 15 minutes later we had to ask for chips...after this wait had to ask for salsa n bean dip which would have come with being seated. 15 minutes we're waiting for our order to be taken, finally get our order and one of the chicken tacos was littered with chicken breast bone pieces. My feedback is "attention to detail"... if you can't properly service your customers tell them up front, before seating so they can make a decision. You lost a customer! read more

This is hands down the best Mexican food I have ever had!!! I've had many different meals there. My latest meal I tried was steak a la mayo which was spicy and delicious. The menu is so big from Albondigas(delicious) to many different enchiladas to tamales to sea food... you can't go wrong. I always Judge Mexican food on the chips and salsa. Their chips come out fresh and hot and served with warm re fried beans and awesome salsa. So amazing. The outside is a lil dated but I love the decor on the inside. Me and my wife stopped in for lunch yesterday. The place is ok, they have cool decor and a nice ambiance, makes you feel like being down in Mexico. She had the beef fajitas ($10) and I had the pollo jaliscience ($10). The food was ok, nothing to write home about. The reason I am only giving them 2 stars is the crappy service. Back in my hometown for my Mom's 95th birthday. Went to El Rosal earlier this week. It was fine, but dining at Damian was amazing. I had the Cancun Shrimp appetizer as an entree and I am not sure I have ever had a better shrimp dish. The butterfly grilled shrimp were oh so garlicky good and the salad surrounding the shrimp retained some of that garlic accompanied by a sweetness that is hard to describe. Much as I loved it, this so-called appetizer still left me with a request for a box. My husband loved his pollo plate with red sauce and onions, accompanied by beans and rice. If you are staying at one of the nearly adjacent hotels, skip getting into that car and that horrendous traffic. Came bere a few weeks back with my husband and my 4 year old son. I had their carne asada, chicken and pork chop plate . my husband had the same. they do give you a good amount of food. the asada was the star! the chips and salsa they give you as an apetizer are really yummy too. The food was bland and dry. I Ordered The Enchiladas Potosinas with chicken and green sauce , as well as a cheese quesadilla. The enchiladas were dry and lacked flavor and it was the same thing for the Red rice and Beans (which are a staple for Mexican Cuisine). After examining the enchiladas , I noticed they had a few strands of cheese melted on top of the tortilla but it was hard to even notice it due to the abundance of shredded lettuce that was poured over them followed by a blob of sour cream. The quesadilla was dry and the cheese was chewy . I will definitely will not come back to try any other food here. For the price you pay , I expect more flavorful food and quality. read more

Damian's and their flour chips have a special place in my heart (literally and figuratively).

My parents recently moved to Modesto, which makes me happy because the Central Valley at least has good Mexican Food! Found Damian on Yelp and visited for lunch on New Year's Eve. We were seated immediately, given a fresh basket of chips (a combo of flour and corn chips - yum!) and a side of beans and salsa for dipping. I ordered a combo plate of a cheese enchilada with a carne asada tostada. The plate came with a side of beans and rice and the entire dish was very good. My boyfriend ordered a Vegetarian Burrito Supreme with green sauce and the burrito was humongous! He ate it all though and said it was great. The next time we come to visit we will surely be back and I made sure to tell my parents to check them out. Great job, Damian! read more

Except of course for Friday and Saturdays :( but they do seem to be extremely full and very very busy and as someone who has worked in a restaurant i understand the lagging and difference in food. I was in the area for business with a few colleagues and decided on having Mexican food for dinner. We drove around and found "Damian's Authentic Mexican" restaurant. We tried it out. The chips were little on the oily side, you can tell the oil needed changing. It was my first time here and to be safe, I ordered the cheese enchiladas which I thought were good. Service was good but slow. The rest of the group felt the food was alright. I did have complaints on the lot, poorly thought of, tiny parking lots, there are 2. Both lots were full - if they are full, you don't have room to turn, you'll need to back the car out. Caution: you're backing into a main, busy street though. Which also means, it's hard to wait for a person leaving as they need the space to back out. Hey, if I'm going to write a review, it's going to include the whole experience! I have dined here before plenty of times, and the food is good. However, there was a bug in my food. A little tiny thing, probably lost its way or and decided to kamikaze into my bean dip. It happens, this doesn't disqualify Damian's as a good place to eat. But, the server's response does. When I kindly highlighted the bug imposter she was not bothered. This was our first time coming here. So first the atmosphere was great. The inside looks kinda like a patio and was so cute. The service was also awesome. Now for the food, it was just okay. Not bad, not good. If I had to choose one word, I would say bland. Kinda one note. I definitely think it's worth another shot. We will give it another try. read more

It's great looking inside and the plates are large enough for the biggest eaters. Today I ordered chicken ala plancha and the cook was excellent. Only visited this place once, so we have a small sample size. I liked that they served retried beans for dipping along with the chips and salsa. I never see that back home in the Midwest. I ordered the taco truck tacos: 2 chicken and 2 beef. The chicken was dry and the beef wasn't much better. The limes they gave me to squeeze fresh lime juice were dry as well. We have had dinner here several times over the years and always loved the food. I was really looking forward to my usual chicken burrito supreme with green sauce. So disappointed!! I took 2 bites and noticed the green sauce had a metallic taste. We sent both plates back and had them remade with red sauce. Unfortunately that wasn't any better. I do have to say we were there about an hour before they closed so that could be why. Drinks were good, blackberry margaritas are really good. Asked for water and got what seemed like warm tap water with 3 already melting ice cubes. Servers were nice but were mostly busy cleaning and talking about how they thought they WERE getting out of there early. Im disappointed and not sure we will go back again any time soon.
