A lot of people hate Deer Valley because it brings bad memories to them, but not for me. This is my home and will always be my home. This school has made me what I am today. If you want to have fun, you have to be involve, not just wait for the 3 o'clock bell and go home. I stay at school everyday until 5 and sometimes even up to 12am setting up for the Winter Ball dance. I also heard that Deer Valley is ghetto and dangerous. Well, it is not. It is only that small percentage of kids that are troublemakers and don't make it out of high school. Don't let those small percentage of kids ruin the image of Deer Valley. The future is here. I am a computer engineer major at San Jose State. We have people going to UCLA, UCB, Harvard, Stanford, and many other top colleges across the country. We have people majoring in neuroscience, engineer, biology, chemistry, and mathematics. We have people that are doctors, working at Google, playing for a NFL team, running for Congress, and doing many amazing things. And guess what we all have in common? We all came from Deer Valley High and this is our home.

A lack of homework, consistent education, report card or progress reports. My child also lost his music teacher in fall with no replacements and just lost hope. Nobody took over. I messages the principal and was met with excused and lack of response. When I raised concern for lack of proper education and who would fill the gap the principal didn't even respond. My child was disappointed with the lack of education, support. And an ability for a sub to provide structure. My child is excited to leave this school and get proper education elsewhere. It's no surprise we got a letter principal is leaving too.

It has been great seeing my children make new friends, learn the routine and integrate themselves into the school. They have been enjoying all of the electives such as Art, PE and Spanish, weekly chapel and cannot wait for the fun field trips as well as upcoming fun run! She stopped what she was doing and gave me personal attention and I was able to get everything done in one hour. She made me a walk through packet right then and there. On a day (packet pickup) that I know must have been stressful she kept a smile on her face and you would have never guessed that she had a huge work load. But for every review from a disenchanted class of 2014 or 2018 or 2021 member, there were 2800 other kids who had a reasonably good experience. This year's graduating class had three accepted to Stanford, a boatload get into Berkeley and UCLA, Brown, Duke, the military academies, all the other UC and CSU schools, and schools all over the country. Previous years had kids go to Harvard and Yale. They offer some 20+ AP courses and teach so kids generally pass them. Not that weird anymore for kids to do 7 APs junior or senior year and have semester GPAs of 4.8. There are firefighting courses, a new culinary academy, theater, arts, band, etc. Some sports are amazing (a couple of pro baseball players, apparently), and some have been... less amazing. Football suffered from having all the kids with skill end up at the other high school to support a really astonishing quarterback to the state championship. Fingers crossed Heritage does better soon. Counseling is a mixed bag. Some counselors are great, some were thankfully canned after a year, and one turned out to be really awful to kids. Some teachers are gifted. Some are not. You absolutely get out of it what you put into it. We chose Heritage (not our school based on residence), and our kids have had a great experience. ...but the traffic at drop off and pickup really is awful and unsolvable.
