Heritage is a very contradicting school, if you aren't Caucasian , Rich or if you are a POC not playing a sport , they will think that you are a waste of space. I had friends that ended up going to neighboring Liberty ,Deer Valley & Antioch cause the lack of diversity. Can't even use the bathroom bc of all the idiot kids vaping. Too awkward and crowded to use bathroom between periods! Going to start having to pee in the bushes!!! Zero WiFi, can't even text, or call, god forbid we ever have an emergency!!! If you are vegetarian or vegan- you should think about bringing your lunch if you want to eat. They have very limited quantities and are always "out" by the time you make it to the front of the line. So you go hungry if you don't bring your own food. Counselors-remind me, what do they do.....bc after asking several times for help with various issues- nada, nothing, zilch- no help at all. Campus is fairly clean except for wrestling mats- wrestlers are always getting ringworm. The drive to and from school will give you PTSD. Take Prozac prior to the drive so you don't lose your temper bc of all the inconsiderate cutters! I'm talking to you Teslas! I gave 2 stars instead of one bc- I think they are trying........ I hope this doesn't get me in trouble but I will open up about some truths if a student is in danger or in threat staff won't care but if there staff is in danger they will do whatever to stop it or shut it down they care more about themselves then students when a students tries open up about a teacher discriminating, or harassing a student to other teachers, or the staff will continue to defend the other staff members and blame the student and call them crazy or just overdramatic, because some teachers are sexist and or discriminative towards certain individuals but during my sophomore I learned a lot how they run there school districts there school boards etc and like I said the staff will protect each other, and protect themselves at no matter what caused, but if a student is in trouble over a situation, they won't care it will take days, but for Staff they will do it immediately embarrassing. read more

It has been a great place for our 4.2 daughter. There are many opportunities for those who want excel. She is thriving and happy.

A lot of the teachers are super lazy in this school and when they are actually teaching (???) they don't really care if their students understands what their teaching or not. Some of them were always on the phone during class. I can actually name some of these teachers but I am not gonna mention the name but I'll give you a hint, this one terrible teacher teaches Algebra, this teacher doesn't explain what she was teaching so everyone in the class gets confused and she doesn't even extend any help to students even if they asked. What happened to care and compassion from teachers? What's gonna happen now to students who wanted to learn but couldn't get the the help they needed to learn? Teachers need to set an example for their students and they need to make themselves available for students who need their help. I hope the district will have a better screening before they hire a teacher. We need to mold these kids to be become better adults. I know it starts at home but school also makes a big impact in every individual's life. I'm positive that this is not the only school that have these kinds of teachers but I just have to voice out my disappointment and frustration with the lack of support, professionalism and empathy from the teachers in this school. read more

I graduated from this school in 2012. I was an AP scholar with a cumulative GPA of 3.8. I'm also gay and autistic, having gone through the gifted program in elementary school. I have to be honest, my time at this school was abysmal. I was bullied relentlessly by students and teachers alike. Homophobia was rampant. I had teachers make homophobic jokes in front of the class, including a joke by the band teacher insinuating that gay men in the Castro enjoy drinking semen. This same teacher screamed at a student, calling him a "freak", in front of the entire class. I was also physically assaulted several times by other students. I witnessed a *lot* of racism and sexism. I had a math teacher who would barely teach, then mock me in front of the class and in private when I asked questions, telling me I should be sent back two levels in math if I didn't understand those things (I was a year ahead in math). He ended up being fired for soliciting sex from female students, and there are teachers still working at the school today who defended him during that time. The school also held "boys vs. girls" rallies where all male students were made to sit in the bleachers on one side of the gym, and all girls on the other. They made no effort to account for transgender or non-binary students. During one of these rallies, most of the boys began chanting "make me a sandwich!", to which the girls started chanting "get a job!". The school also allowed a club called the "male leaders" to exist and perform at rallies, whose schtick was to perform homoerotic acts in front of the student body for laughs. The members were all (presumably) straight. For the senior prank during my year, those participating decided to chain a baby lamb to a lamppost overnight in the heat of June. The chain was so heavy that the lamb couldn't move. 50 students weren't allowed to walk at our graduation because of it. I don't know how many of the staff at the school remain from the time I was there, but I know that there are at least a few. I caution anyone who's considering sending their child to this school, especially if they've experienced bullying in the past, to try to send them to Liberty instead. All schools, especially in this town, have problems, but all of the people I know who graduated there had far less school-related traumatic experiences overall. read more

Heritage is a big high school. No getting around it, and clearly some kids get lost if you are reading the one star reviews. But for every review from a disenchanted class of 2014 or 2018 or 2021 member, there were 2800 other kids who had a reasonably good experience. This year's graduating class had three accepted to Stanford, a boatload get into Berkeley and UCLA, Brown, Duke, the military academies, all the other UC and CSU schools, and schools all over the country. Previous years had kids go to Harvard and Yale. They offer some 20+ AP courses and teach so kids generally pass them. Not that weird anymore for kids to do 7 APs junior or senior year and have semester GPAs of 4.8. There are firefighting courses, a new culinary academy, theater, arts, band, etc. Some sports are amazing (a couple of pro baseball players, apparently), and some have been... less amazing. Football suffered from having all the kids with skill end up at the other high school to support a really astonishing quarterback to the state championship. Fingers crossed Heritage does better soon. Counseling is a mixed bag. Some counselors are great, some were thankfully canned after a year, and one turned out to be really awful to kids. Some teachers are gifted. Some are not. You absolutely get out of it what you put into it. We chose Heritage (not our school based on residence), and our kids have had a great experience. ...but the traffic at drop off and pickup really is awful and unsolvable. read more

They expect me to finish my work by the time its due even though I have a 504 and I'm supposed to get extra time. Some of my teachers respect my 504 and other teachers don't. Then they only do something about my extra time when the problem is brought up. Most of the teachers are cool, its just the people that run the school I have a problem with. read more

My daughter is over achiever. She always tries to do her best. Currently she has a 3.6 GPA. This is the second year that she been going to Heritage high school. The assistant principal Winford is terrible. They have even admitted that they are having problems in this class. The teacher Myers and Winford tell my to drop out of the class which will disqualify her from many Universities. I have left messages and voice mails and no one has returned my emails or calls. The class is too full and does not have seats for all the students which means some have to stand up. My daughter has been asked even when there is seats to stand in the back of the class and when she has asked to get help before, after or during school has been told do you think I have time. There is a lot more I wish I can write everything here. CURRENTLY I AM SITTING IN THE OFFICE AND HAVE WAITED 30 MINUTES TO TALK TO WNFORD . They tell me she is in a meeting. I wish the district does something about this school seems that this school is going down the drain. The counselor there are terrible. I have a 504 plan and one day they called me up the my SLC and talked about my plan because they didn't believe my mother when she called them and talked about it. They asked me questions like does your mother read to you every night? Did your mother read to you as a kid? They were making my mother sound like a horrible parent and didn't do her job as a parent, even though they knew that she's a single mom and use to work there, but quit because after she broke her back at the school and came back after a couple of months, all the teachers were mean to her even though she had to learn how to walk again. read more

I have 4 kids and this is the best high school in the east bay. Strong teach/focus on academics. My kids do well in sports/academics so not sure how it'd be if they didn't but supportive staff, lots of encouraging and excellent campus and resources. We are very happy with the school thus far. read more

Attended a track meet today at Heritage High school. Heritage High coaches allowed their athletes to wear tutus during a race to, I assume and was told, to make fun of the other school. The coaches should be reprimanded. Also the PA announcer was cheering on Heritage over the loudspeaker. Very rude and unprofessional. What a low rent school!! read more

I went to heritage all four years of high school and I still have nightmares of the way that I was treated by most of the staff and students. I got in a horrible car accident my freshman year and had to get a 504 plan because of my traumatic brain injury. I was on my way home from the schools band practice, and I never received any sort of condolences while I was in the hospital from the band instructor. When I came back, I was expected to finish all of my work within two weeks plus catch up, and I wasn't given any extra time although my plan required that my teachers did. I was yelled at by multiple teachers in front of entire classrooms for using my accommodations that are allowed by law. When I would complain, the administration would change my plan to fit the teachers desires and not my own needs. They then forced me to attend every 15 minutes and when I tried to leave, they blocked me off and threw tissue boxes in my face. This school is a law suit waiting to happen and should've been shut down a long time ago but thanks to Mr Oshodi and many others they saved their butts from it countless times. The teachers only care about their own paychecks and reputations in the district, and if you don't fit the small box they have assigned for you, you're thrown to the side and have to fend for yourself. I wish I never shook anyone's hand at graduation. They didn't deserve it. read more

They ask you to call before picking up your child if they need to leave early but no one ever answers the phone ever! There should be more support for tutoring in math and other subjects. The environment seems to be ok but if you drive or pick up your child from school expect at least 30-45 minutes. Traffic is insane and there is only one way in and one way out! read more

Great campus I graduated from heritage back in 2012 now the campus is completely off limits glad I graduated when I did

Went to a Track and Field meet. The Heritage 4X100 boys relay team started the meet off by wearing TuTu's. I would think that a team not wearing the appropriate uniform would be disqualified. The meet continued with the announcement booth cheering into the PA system for Heritage. I am all for cheering on your team but it is unnecessary to scream into the microphone. The final act of rudeness was when the announcer after having their team win yells "Our House"!! So disappointed. The fact that no adult in charge would shut this down is completely unacceptable. read more
