Why are they the best? 1 - When you park to pick your dog up, they walkie talkie for your dog to be brought up front. Other places (including the large chains) take FOREVER to give you your dog back. I've felt on multiple occasions that my dog was being held hostage and that my time was of no concern at other places. 2 - They remember your dog by name, etc. At other places, I've been returned my dog and they say "He had fun today". Me thinking "Wow, SHE was here all day and you didn't notice she was a female?" 3 - Very warm, professional, and thankful staff.  Klode LOVES the staff! In one emergency, Dr. Montgomery patiently and thoughtfully cared for two of my kitties after they had rare, adverse reactions to their annual vaccines. One kitty required ongoing supportive care for days and Dr. Montgomery could not have been more caring and on top of things. She even made sure that the vaccine manufacturers covered all of the costs of Livie's treatment, a process that undoubtedly was labor intensive, and made a huge difference. Recently, I called late in the day to see if I could have my other cat seen because he'd been vomiting and had become progressively more lethargic. Dr. Mueller stayed late (I arrived close to the COB) to evaluate my Moose, and diagnosed an intestinal blockage that required emergency surgery. She then quickly transferred us to an emergency hospital for surgery and everything went off without a hitch. It was a terrible several hours, but I couldn't have been more fortunate to have started with PCAC and Dr. Mueller. Thank you to the entire team!!

My first experience at VEI was when my senior dog, Sadie, had a lens luxation. Basically the lens…read morein her left eye fell out of place, and this can cause painful and serious issues. Having heard good things about VEI I was referred by my primary vet and got an appointment very quickly (eye issues can be time sensitive, and they are great at getting your pet help quick!). The clinic itself is calm and beautiful, and I don't think initially my dog even realized she was at a clinic. Every single staff member is exceptionally kind and helpful to both me and Sadie, and they are also very quick and efficient. Dr. Enders is Sadies ophthalmologist, and after doing an exam explained fully what was happening, why, why it was a concern, and what different treatment options I had. They had less and more expensive routes and he was honest about the pros and cons of each, and long term what would be best for Sadie. I didn't have many questions because of how well he explained, but he patiently answered each one I did have. We decided to go with surgical removal so that as a senior it wasn't an issue again down the road when she was even older. The costs are not inexpensive as this is a speciality hospital, but they are exactly what I expected and worth the expertise and care. They were very clear about costs and what was covered as a complimentary follow up and what was not. I want the best for my pets, and when it comes to eyes this is it. You get what you pay for! The surgery was scheduled just a short while later and went well. They explained what to expect post operatively, one concern they had about a pressure as she was waking up (and because of that had me bring her the following day to recheck, which was great peace of mind to me!), and the eye drop schedule. We have had multiple rechecks with lessening frequency that have all been just as good, and most recently I got to utilize the emergency line after hours when Sadies eye, in a matter of hours, went from clear to completely white. I left a message and got a call back from the on-call vet within an hour, and he instantly knew exactly what was happening (confirmed with a picture sent to him) and what I should do. As soon as the clinic opened the next morning they were calling as well to check in, and made sure to get us in for a check before the weekend. I would not hesitate to recommend VEI to anyone wanting expert care for their pets, and am so glad to have such an amazing veterinary option if my pets need it!

At first we were a little reluctant because that is a two hour drive one way for us, but since our poor dog was suffering so much we took her. Dr. Telford performed a Diamond Burr Keratoplasty for both eyes. The next day she was better and no longer was squinting her eyes. We just returned from her follow up visit with Dr. Telford and she is now ulcer free. Was it expensive? Yes, but we had already spent more than that taking her to our local vet every week for follow up visits to see if medication alone was working. So, I would suggest that if your vet says that you need to see an eye specialist don't wait. Just do it. And the place to do it is Veterinary Eye Institute in Dallas.

I have no experience with name brand options so I was coming in totally ignorant of what these companies offer or how the differ in quality/substance. I regret that I didn't get their names but there was a man and women working yesterday afternoon and they were both Stellar! It's a small store but has enough products to get overwhelmed easily. The gentleman took me through eat raw food brand and option and gave me a run-down of each one and gave me some recommendations as well. They both offered suggestions and made the purchasing process very easy! Even gave me a couple samples as well. I walked out completely impressed and will absolutely be going back. The store also carries varieties of treats and chews. Read the ingredients on the packaged food/treats and you'll be impressed. If you've never fed your dog a raw diet but would like to try, just ask the person working at the store. They'll educate you on the benefits of a raw diet and the different brands to choose from. I currently feed my dog a mixture of raw and dry food (primarily because the raw food isn't exactly cheap), and she absolutely loves it. Her poop is smaller and prettier too. :)
