This rating is for their bottomless brunch. I would give their brunch a 2.5 star rating for the combined experience.
The food: 5 stars!
This was my second time back here because I love their brunch dishes. They're all unique and unlike dishes you can get anywhere else (especially in DC which is notorious for its lack of decent Indian food). It's $25 for unlimited plates and each of the plates comes out tapas style. They have a plethora of vegetarian dishes, all of which are delicious and tasty. The highlights for me include the Samosa Chaat (aesthetically beautiful as well) and the Vegetable Shepherd's Pie (gets better with every bite). I'm also a fan of the Appam Waffle, which is unlike anything I've had before, and the Pickled Pork Belly. Honestly I've liked everything that I've had here; it's hard to go wrong.
The Service: 1 star.
Okay so I normally don't have a problem with the service anywhere unless it's that bad. Especially with a popular bottomless brunch, I know the staff have so much to take care of. The hostess was super nice and was able to accommodate an extra person added to our reservation. Our waitress was also so nice but seemed a little overwhelmed with all of her tables and coordinating with the kitchen. We had to flag her down to get her attention throughout the brunch as she scrambled from table to table. The five of us each placed an order of two plates each to start (not too many). This first round of dishes came out over a 30 minute span. They brought a first round of dishes 15 minutes after we ordered where three of us got at least one dish. The fourth person got her dishes soon after. Our last friend, however, did not get anything within 15-20 minutes of the rest of us and we had to politely flag our waitress and ask to check in on those dishes when we placed the order for our next round. Her food came soon after but I was still missing my favorite dish that I ordered (the samosa chaat). Not to worry, I was sure that it would come with the next round of food. The next round took another 20-25 minutes for the first dish to come. We were getting impatient and hangry by this point because we had a taste of the food and wanted more. Still, two dishes didn't come (the samosa chaat and the chicken tikka Benedict). After multiple attempts to get the attention of a staff member, we politely inquired about both when we placed our final round of orders and our waitress apologized and immediately ran to the kitchen to figure out where this elusive samosa chaat had gone (by this point, I had been waiting on it for 1.5 hours). It finally came, followed swiftly by the other two items I had ordered, but by this point, we were really frustrated and uncomfortable because we had to keep waving down our waitress and checking on our food in order to get it. We're not demanding or high maintenance customers so it definitely was awkward for us to keep asking about our food. As a minor inconvenience, one of my friends got bottomless drinks (the rest of us couldn't even though we're all over 23 because of an apparent management policy to not accept vertical IDs, which are the under 21s) but no one was refilling those drinks and between all of the problems with the food, it was hard to remember to ask for a refill. Caveat: not sure if this was the experience of other tables because the ones around us seemed happy and seemed to be getting their food quickly.
In summary, if they can improve the coordination with the kitchen and get the staff support needed to handle a busy dining room, this brunch would be 5 stars because the food is wonderful. Unfortunately, none of us will be coming back after this rough experience. read more
