Garlic naan and plain naan
Maria L.

Wonderful service and delicious food. A wonderful bday celebration. Samosa chaat were delicious and so festive looking! I loved my chicken tikka extra spicy and garlic naan. My friend's Mom enjoyed her Dosa and took the rest home. Always have enjoyed the food and lovely people here. Will be back.

Lamb Vindaloo

I recently got a garlic naan and the lamb vindaloo for takeout from Dakshin Indique for a weekday lunch and loved my food. I got the order exactly when it was supposed to arrive, although I didn't get plasticware (the recipe said I hadn't requested it, which wasn't the case). The garlic naan was large and delicious-plenty of garlic, crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, and went perfectly with the rice and lamb vindaloo. The lamb was cooked perfectly, although I would have loved a few more chunks of lamb and more spice. I would recommend Dakshin Indique the next time you are in the mood for Indian food!

great dessert.

Straight up delicious. I'm not one to pass out undeserved 5 star reviews. I am very critical. This was a delightful order to receive via delivery. I was impressed by the thoughtful display of the yummy dessert.

Chicken Curry Lamb Roganjosh
Hammed A.

UPDATED REVIEW: March 12, 2023 I experienced another takeout order over the weekend and it was consistent with the previous experience. The Chicken Curry was bland compared to traditional Indian flavor expectations and so was the Lamb Roganjosh. Both lacked a reasonable portion size for the price. From the photos you can see the gravy thinly coats the proteins. The owner did reach out to me recently after my last review in December 2023 to let me know the quality has improved and so did the portion size. Anticipating this I visited again this weekend and the portion size seemingly remained the same as you can see from the photos. With all of the protein removed from the containers what remained was a container 1/2 full with gravy that lacked richness. I also wish the restaurant would separate the portions of white rice and not assume the entrees would be consumed together by one person. The inconvenience here is if multiple people are eating the food, but not in the same place. When two entrees are purchased I think it makes sense to separate the white rice by portion. This is a high 2* experience however this place can be a 4* Indian restaurant with a few tweaks and attention to detail. PREVIOUS REVIEW: December 15, 2023 I've dined here before, inside the restaurant and it was a good experience. On this occasion I purchased takeout. What I love about ethnic food is it generally stands up well in transport i.e. takeout and delivery. However on this occasion while the food was OK I wasn't completely satisfied with the overall quality of the food I ordered. The flavor didn't quite rise up to the authenticity I expected from Indian cuisine and certainly not what I know this restaurant is (or once was) capable of producing. It could have been an off day in the kitchen however for the incredibly small quantities I received in my takeout order there really is no room for inconsistency. Overall the experience could have been better. Knowing their reputation I'll give their takeout another try if in the area.

Bar area with lots of windows and natural light.

Friendly service and delicious food. I came in for dinner early on a Monday. I was welcomed in and promptly seated by a window in the bar, which is a cute area- colorful pillows and a comfy bench sit against the wall. The food itself was hot and delicious. I got the chicken tikka makhani and garlic naan. I wasn't asked spice level, and it was definitely milder than I'm used to, but great flavor. I'm sure they would have accommodated if you like it really spicy (I personally don't like to set my tongue ablaze, so I was good). The portion was just right for me to finish everything with no leftovers and be perfectly full. Definitely would go back for quality Indian food!

They mentioned that they have new owners/management so it's possible they are still finding their groove but we have to be honest and it pains me to give them 3 stars so let me start by explaining... the food is delicious and staff are nice, it's just not seasoned like traditional Indian food. The food tastes like a westernized, milder version for non-Indians who have never had Indian food or who can't handle the seasonings of regular Indian food. The lamb roganjosh was like soup and not creamy at all, tasted like regular soup/sauce made in any kitchen and not like an Indian curry. It wasn't bad, just not Indian tasting. The mango lassi was too much on the lighter side in color and tasted like it had more yogurt than mango. It was delicious, just not what was expected. The chicken biryani had a bit more flavor than the lamb roganjosh so it was my second favorite thing however, I would be lying if I said the flavors weren't muted - we didn't even eat the yogurt with it because the flavor was already light. The garlic naan is the only thing that checked all the boxes - it was fluffy, flavorful and quite big which made me very happy. I would recommend getting that if you ever go. I don't know if the mild flavor is intentional for the new owners or if it's just a mishap as they figure things out but I was disappointed because I love Indian food and had been looking forward to having it for dinner. That said, if you have never had Indian food before, I think this would be a great place to start in order to see if you can handle more. If you like Indian food but feel like it's usually too spicy or the seasonings mess with your stomach, this is also a perfect balance for it. Besides people who love and enjoy traditional, Indian cuisine, I truly think there is a crowd for this restaurant and they just need to intentionally market it to them.

This place was AMAZING!!! From the minute we got here we felt so welcome and the service was so top notch. Di the owner was so so friendly, and you can tell that everything about this place, from the food to the drinks to the atmosphere is made with love and care. The paneer makhani and masala dosa were absolutely delicious--I can't wait to come back and try more dishes!

Appam Waffle Sundae Shreekandh Parfait

I tried the endless brunch, which featured an amazing selection of small plates. They were all delicious and with bold flavors and seasonings. The chicken dishes and bhel puri were especially good. Save room for the appam waffle sundae! Great service and quiet restaurant with tasteful decor. Will be back!

Bhel Puri
Kristen H.

This is one of my favorite places for Indian food in the area! Not only is there food good, but I love their unique cocktails! Their mini dosa appetizer and bhel puri are my two favorite dishes. Additionally, even though the other restaurants around the area are always crowded, I have always been able to get a table here. The service is quick and the waiters always give me great recommendations. The only reason I can't get this place to five stars is that it is expensive considering the relatively small portion sizes. But if you have some money to spend, and are in the area, I definitely recommend this place!

This is one of our go-to takeout spots, especially on cold winter nights. The food is incredible and tasty, and the portions are enormous.

The portions are too small. The place has messed up orders on Uber eats. And it's overpriced. Stay away.

Unfortunately, the last few visits haven't been great, and tonight was the worst it's ever been. I ordered the matar paneer and it was watery and almost completely flavorless, which is very unlike what I've had there before. The rice was even more disappointing -- it tasted old and was hardened into clumps, almost molded into the shape of the container instead of being individual grains. It was difficult to even break apart. The samosas were good, which was the one bright spot, but the garlic naan barely had any garlic on it. Normally their naan is amazing and very flavorful. I'm really disappointed because this used to be my go-to spot for Indian food. I'm hoping this was just a bad night, but after a few recent experiences that were also lacking in freshness and flavor, I may have to start looking for a new place.

We were able to snag a table for Valentine's Day evening on their website and they did NOT overbook - we were seated within 5 mins. of arriving. Service was prompt and attentive without being intrusive. The cocktails were innovative and delicious; we loved the jalapeño passion fruit cocktail (spicy!) and the ginger mojito. We were very hungry but decided on 4 smaller plates, which was exactly the right amount of food. Highly recommend their Crab Kathi Roll appetizer, the Crispy Spinach with Dates, the Chicken Cafreal and the Eggplant Fritters - although the mild spicing and flavor of the eggplant was outshone by the other robustly flavored items; still tasty though. Service was friendly and crisp and the pricing was very economical especially considering the variety and quality of the food and beverage. A 5-Star keeper!!

Indian food is not my favorite cuisine but it is mostly gluten-free which so I do keep it on my rotation. This location is never full so I was not sure about it. They seemed a little understaffed even for not having many customers. The ambiance was fine but again nothing special stood out. There are way better Indian restaurants in DC starting with Rasika. Heritage is not bad, but there is nothing that popped for me. Jumping into my experience. I didn't make reservations and the hostess was so kind to accommodate me and inform me of other great opportunities to visit, one being their Pani Puri experience. Needless to say, I'll be back! I sat at the bar and received A+ service from Amanda who was supported by Renee. Amanda's personality is what you'd appreciate in a bartender, she knew the menu top to bottom and was excellent with recommending dishes and cocktails. Drinks: Kaapi Martini- a rich flavored Chai espresso martini. This drink, while delicious, was more on the creamy side and needed a half ounce more of liquor to take it from latte to cocktail. Other than that, the rich Chai taste was certainly divine but I like to have a break from sweetness or milky drinks when enjoying cocktails. Malabar- the STAR! This smokey drink was made with elite status in mind. It's the type of drink with a perfect credit score and a few properties in the Maldives-gosh this was amazing! The tequila stirred with Campari, fresh lemon, rose, and mezcal were paired together so beautifully, each supporting the other without canceling out in taste. It was the perfect balance and the smokiness added a mysterious flavor to the mix. I absolutely loved it! Golden Hour- another divine drink. Its bright color brought a festive vibe to the atmosphere and the vodka shaken with herbal liqueur, Indian turmeric, sweet pineapple, and fresh lime balanced well. It wasn't too sweet but it carried the right flavors with the turmeric and pineapple setting the tone with a citrus/warming feel. Food The Chaat and Street Food section: SPDP-toasted puffed up puris stuffed with potato, red onion and cilantro and topped with sweet yogurt, tamarind, and green chutneys. The final component was sev added on top, which is crunchy chickpea noodles. This dish, while messy to eat, is exactly what you want to order. IT WAS AMAZING! Let's explore the flavor profiles on this dish....first, the balance of sweet and spicy was insane! Imagine taking a bite and your mouth is hit with some sweet heat, that's what the sweet yogurt and tamarind offered all while the green chutney cooled down your mouth. It was ridiculously flavorful and divine! The Pav section: KFC sandwich aka Kashmiri Fried Chicken sandwich- the BEST chicken sandwich in town! As someone who adores a good chicken sandwich, there is a lot to be said about one whose flavor profile sweeps you off your feet with just one bite. The chicken breast was the juiciest and most perfectly seasoned!!!!! Brined to perfection, this chicken breast was amazingly juicy. Placed on a sweet toasted buttery bun and topped with Maggi-mayo and sweet pickles, I was stopped in my tracks by how delicious this was-my goodness! Sweets Gulab Jamun- This is the way to conclude a beautiful culinary experience. The Gulab Jamun was impeccable in taste and I tried a scoop of their ice cream on the side, sending my sweet tooth on the wild side. Both were perfect. Would I return? YES! You probably can't keep me away from this place!!!!! Do I recommend? ABSOLUTELY!
