Brought a visitor here for Sat morning bottomless brunch with friends and it was an excellent idea. First, the boozy drink selection was wide and diverse and the boozy mango lassi is now the only form I want it to come in. It was surprisingly strong but the sweetness of the mango cut it well. YUM. Between three of us we tried all the drink options and none were disappointing. You can't go wrong :) Second- the food! Brunch is small plates style and extensive. Even as a vegetarian, I had SO many options which is an infrequent occurrence. Luckily, since it was unlimited plates I didn't have to choose! We tried just about all options and I particularly enjoyed the samosa chaat and the cookie butter dosa (SO good!). Many of the plates were so colorful and beautifully presented. By the end, we were incredibly stuffed (maybe painfully so, no self control oops) but happy! The only downside I would say is the service, which seemed a bit off. At the beginning it was confusingly slow. It wasn't too crowded when we had arrived and yet the servers were standing around not asking to take our order at the beginning..it was a bit odd. Regardless, I really enjoyed my brunch experience and recommend it for an Indian twist on brunch! read more

My friends and I only come to Indique for one reason: the lamb shank. And yes, if you eat meat, it is a good enough reason to visit. The lamb is served in a dish with other stuff. I don't even care what it is, because my belly only wants that lamb. Seriously, the lamb is tender and just falls off the bone. It melts in your mouth. I am salivating just thinking about it. As I alluded to earlier, the lamb does not appear on your plate by its lonesome. It is slathered with a tomato-based sauce with various mild spices and slow-cooked onions that give it a sweetness, and is topped with vermicelli-like crisps. This topping is mostly to add texture to the soft lamb, and does not detract from the dish. While I kind of like the lamb, there are plenty of other dishes on the dinner menu. For example, they have lamb chops. And lamb roganjosh. And lamb vindaloo. Their lamb biryani is also good, and while it is no longer listed on their menu, it's worth asking for. Otherwise, the chicken biryani is a decent substitute. I know that I'm hyping the lamb, but if a restaurant representing the cuisine of a country that is primarily vegetarian can make a great meat dish, then it makes you wonder how great their vegetarian dishes must be. Unfortunately, I have never really gotten past the lamb, aside from their chicken biryani and some appetizers. For appetizers, there are several different chaats that are not bad. I usually pay little attention to them, not because I find anything wrong with them, but if you've read this far, then you can probably guess what I'm saving room for. The naan is pretty standard, and worth getting if you do not like plain rice. If you want to mix it up, they also have garlic and butter naan, though the price of the garlic naan is a bit steep at $4 for a basket. then again, this is not a hole-in-the-wall. Indique is not a super fancy restaurant, but it's not casual, either. It's more business casual. The ambiance is nice. The ventilation system is better than at more casual South Asian restaurants, so your clothes will not retain as much smell as other places. This is a plus for me. You can come here for lunch or for business meetings and go back to work without distracting or offending anyone. There is seating on the street level, as well as two open dining rooms upstairs. The upper level is carpeted, so if you are dining with younger children who might spill, then I suggest you ask to be seated on the main level. The service has always been attentive, speedy, professional, and even kind. They have gone out of their way to be hospitable more than once, even though they do not personally know me and have no reason to believe that I'm a VIP (I routinely get confused for a college student, so I doubt they're expecting a big tip). With such a glowing review, you might wonder why I didn't give it a full 5 stars. This is mainly because they have much more to offer that I have not tried, so I'm leaving some room for that in the future. Also, their napkins are not lint-free, so if you're wearing dark clothes, particularly a suit or a dress, then you will get white lint all over you. Overall, Indique is a nice, intimate, and quiet place in the Cleveland Park area. There is street parking all along Connecticut Ave, and the Metro station entrance is about 50 feet away. I do not come here often, mainly to avoid overdoing it with lamb, but am always happy to return or recommend it to others. If you have not been here, it's worth a visit! read more

I came to Indique with my family for a weekend brunch. It was absolutely delicious, and felt like a bit of a lighter meal. The flavors and dishes were unique and flavorful. Instead of doing an unlimited meal, we decided to order a la carte. We ordered 7 dishes and that was plenty for 4 hungry people, and ended up being half the price of the unlimited plates. Shallot Potatoes: lightly flavored, sort of like mashed potatoes with some spices. Delicious, but a little bland. Vegetable Biryani: typical biryani- comes with a yogurt sauce for topping. Has some vegetables which is nice, but not a very unique flavor. Green salad: extremely delicious! Fresh and light, the dressing is so good. Would definitely recommend this, to lighten up the meal a little bit. Appam Waffle Sundae: a must try! The waffle has a unique texture, and it goes well with the creaminess of the vanilla ice cream. Feels lighter than a regular waffle sundae. Cauliflower Pecorino Kulcha: very good. Unique flavors combining pecorino cheese with Indian flavors. I would recommend this. Vegetable ishtew: by far my favorite dish we ordered! Coconutty, lightly sweet but still savory, has lots of veggies in it. It's a small portion, and comes with a little appam to dip inside and eat it with. Salmon Sliders: would not recommend this. The salmon was a little dry and tasted slightly off- like there was something wrong with it. The ambience is nice- it's decorated beautifully inside and has two levels with some adorable outdoor seating. My table was quite broken and slanted, causing my chai to spill everywhere, which was frustrating, but probably not an issue at every table. Overall, I would recommend Indique for a unique, delicious meal. read more

A very unique and gourmet Indian experience! It's relatively hard to find nicer Indian places, with such uncommon dishes. The 4 stars instead of 5 is just because for some of the dishes while they were unique, they weren't necessarily at the top level of deliciousness (though said coming from a relatively amateur palate towards Indian food). - Cauliflower chili fry - deep fried cauliflower with a sweet chili sauce. It was tasty and crunchy! Could have had a little more spice to it. - Sweet potato chaat - a bit small, not super flavorful, and weren't quite sure the best way to eat this (the included crisp was too small to scoop up everything). - Masala okra - had a good savoriness and crunch to it, though I prefer to still feel some sliminess in my okra. - Chicken curry Indique - creamy, mild and tasty chicken curry, with a good depth of flavor. - Chicken tikka makhani - tasty with a good spice combination to it. - Kerala fish curry - pretty good, but it wasn't as unique as I was hoping. Tasted a bit like the other curries we had, with a bit of fish in it. - Garlic naan - so warm, tasty, and garlicky! Great fluff to it. - Tamarind vanilla swirl - this was a bit too earthy for me, though you'll probably like it if you like tamarind - Kulfi Indian ice cream - has some good Indian spices to it, though may be an acquired taste (my mother wasn't a fan anyways) - Dolci gelati gelato - tasty standard coconut ice cream with coconut flakes. Overall, this was a unique experience. There were some hits and misses in our party, but I'd gladly try this place again! read more

A little disappointing tbh. Food was ok but nothing special. Flavors kinda meh for Indian. Would not return.

Don't mistake this place for some little greasy take-out joint: this is terrific Indian food with a creative flair. Better and cheaper than Rasika, downtown. Cozy atmosphere, good for quiet conversation. And the tandoori lamb chop is sublime. read more

Came here for day one of Restaurant Week! Overall, I had a great experience. It's conveniently located to the Cleveland Park metro station, but I ubered since I was not sure how close the metro would be. It also looked like parking is not an issue. I met two friends at the bar before getting seated upstairs. For my first course, I ordered the chicken seekah kebabs, which I enjoyed - had a little spicy kick (if you like spicy, you'd definitely appreciate this). For the second course, I had the tandoori lamp chops (absolutely delicious). The lamb was well flavored and tender. All entrees are accompanied by basmati rice and naan. And for dessert, I did the house combination (I'm not much of a dessert person, but this was great). I also tried my friend's toasted coconut gelato and it was great! The staff was very friendly and warm. I would probably check this place out again. read more

Came here some time ago for brunch and gave it a shot. Considering I have a deep love affair with Indian cuisine and I had never known an Indian restaurant to have brunch, I just had to come. We walked in seemingly late for a DC brunch and had no problem being seated immediately. First of all they serve rum mango lassi. Yes! you read that right. Rum in your mango lassi. Who knew life could get any better, right? It's delicious but keep in mind that too many of these will leave you little room for their endless food brunch. The most memorable of dishes was the samosas, oh by baby Indian food Jesus - what a PERFECT dish it was. We actually ordered 3 of these and the presentation was beautiful. The lamb briyani I found to be underwhelming as I am used to heavy and bold Indian flavors. While I appreciate the Indian brunch idea, this restaurant came a bit under my expectations compared to other brunches in DC that are not far from the city center. I will definitely give it another shot but may not be rushing to do so. Solid 3.4 stars! read more

Pros: Small plates are available and good, the best dishes are stunning and tasty, the interior spice is lovely, and the location is hard to beat. Get the small plates and share. I also commend the tamarind margarita, which is quite sour and tasty. Cons: Service is spotty, and prices are not cheap. Verdict: It is not the only Indian restaurant in the city I will go to, but I leave happy. Perfect place for a date. I have heard that Indique Heights, their new branch, is better. read more

Came here for brunch and it was really good! I don't have much experience with Indian food but everything we ordered was awesome and I pretty much inhaled it all because I was so hungry. Their food presentation is spectacular! Artwork on a plate pretty much. They have brunch specials and drink specials for unlimited stuff but the catch is that everyone at the table has to do it which is kind of meh. Nevertheless we were a big party and all did the drink specials. O.M.G. guyssss get the Rum Lassi its exactly what you would picture an alcoholic smoothie to be. Its AMAZING! Im a super fan of yogurt drinks for breakfast and this tasted like an adult Danimals, 15/10 would come back for just this drink. read more

The food was great once again! Very consistent. Also service was top notch!! If you read my previous review I feel the same way. I only have one small issue. I didn't enjoy seeing the cooks eating food off of their own personal plates in the same space where they were cooking food. I can't see that again. So hopefully that will be gotten together next time I come because this place is awesome and I will absolutely be back! I've told all of my friends! Ps. The manager is so attentive. I see he really has a passion for what he does. Very involved and knowledgeable. read more

First off, this place is right on Connecticut Ave. Staff is really friendly, they have a bar downstairs and also upstairs seating. Food is really authentic and they have a wide variety of menu options. I suggest getting a couple different dishes and splitting it family style. The drinks are also delicious, and very authentic and creative. The spice level can be altered too, we like spicy food, so we made sure to ask them to make it as spicy as possible, and it really was delicious. We asked the servers and bar tenders about the area too, since we were unfamiliar and they gave us other places to see that were not on our original tour list. Great staff. read more

This restaurant seems to get better every time we go, and I never think it could be possible. Last night my fiancé and I were seated on an outdoor table on their upstairs balcony and it was perfect. I started with the butternut squash soup and it was awesome! Great flavor with a little kick. My fiancé started with the samosa chaat and loved it. For dinner I had the vegetarian curry stew served with rice and fermented rice bread. It was great and definitely worth a try. My fiancé had garlic naan, yellow lentils, and mango chutney. She really enjoyed the noon and lentils, which was a little spicy. She didn't care too much for the mango chutney. This restaurant recently changed their menu. It is worth checking out. read more

I have been here before and it use to be an awesome place for good and ambiance! I visited this weekend with friends are reserving it on a day before . The first thing that I get is a very very very vague and weird reaction from the host that they can't seat us upstairs or inside or anywhere that we want and gave us a corner table ! Since we were hungry we didn't mind as we knew the food would be great . We saw the dinner menu and it hardly had 10-15 items.. we order panner sabzi and it was awful !! Garlic naam felt hard and garlic chunks were ready to eat kinda. You have bad service , you can't seat us in a good spot even after reserving it in advance, the quality of food is not good !! read more

We waited half an hour to get a waiter. We then waited another hour for mediocre food at best. We have now been here for two hours and can't pay for our food. The place is hopelessly under-staffed on a Saturday night in bustling Cleveland Park. There is only one waiter for the entire restaurant. Unless you are the most patient person in the entire world or have limitless time on your hands, decidedly avoid this restaurant. read more

The food was amazing. Really liked their ambience too. The chaat papri was average but the achari chicken tikka tacos were amazing (only serve 2) . One issue was that beer wasnt chilled enough but the server was really good and opened two for us and took it away. The main course was on time and chicken tikka makhani was great and this coming from an indian means that it is good! Definitely would love to visit again. Edit - the rice and a couple of other dishes were cold and not hot which is a sin for indian food. Taking 2 stars away for that. read more

This was my first DC Restaurant Week experience and I was definitely impressed. Right off the Cleveland Park metro, Indique is a great dining find in the District. I was very pleased with the prix fixe menu options for dinner. They definitely don't skimp on the food or the service! Our server was very polite and attentive without being obsequious. My friend ordered the Masala grilled scallops as a first course, while I opted for the Tandoori king shrimp. Normally, I'm not a scallops fan, but my friend's were perfectly cooked and just the right texture, which is a must for scallops. My king shrimp was huge, but not extremely flavorful. However, it was accompanied by this delicious potato mash. I don't know what it was called, but the flavor reminded me of my grandmother's cornbread dressing. Needless to say, I was in heaven. For my second course, I chose the Chicken Tikka Makhani. It was very delicious, but too mild for my taste. I regret that I didn't order something with more kick. I also selected the complimentary Spanish red wine, which was a nice accompaniment for the meal. Finally, though already stuffed, I ordered the Gulab Jamun a la Indique. I'd never had it before and didn't know what I was getting myself into, but it was really yummy. It sort of reminded me of Italian fried dough and was a decadently sweet indulgence. I will admit that I've experienced better Indian cuisine (albeit in SF and NYC), but Indique has definitely earned its praises. I will most certainly be back. read more

I'd previously visited and reviewed this pace all the way back in 2011/2012, but I decided to order from here again and recently ordered delivery from Indique through a third-party delivery service. I ordered the chicken tikka masala, as I usually do when I eat Indian food, and I was very impressed! The dish was full of flavor and the chicken was tender (not dry at all)! It was also perfectly spiced to my liking. I also ordered a side dish of Chaat Papri (flour crisps, potato, chick peas, yogurt, cilantro and tamarind chutney). The Chaat Papri was FANTASTIC! I was very impressed with this explosion of flavors. I would love to order it again and I definitely plan to dine at / deliver from Indique again in the future! read more

We came here shortly after this place opened but as an Annapolitan it's quite a hike. With business in DC, I made a carry out order and slid by on the way back to the beltway. TIP. I think this is a good place, but I have one complaint. I ordered the vegetable jalfrezi- it ended up coming with cheese in it. The dish's description made no mention of cheese, but other dishes did list cheese as an ingredient, which makes one think that similar dishes that don't mention cheese won't have it. Why randomly list it? I'd appreciate it if they fixed that, but other than that, this was good food and at a great location. read more

Superb Indian cuisine. From the minute you walk in the door your senses are awakened to the unequivocal smells of Indian cooking. The chicken tikka makhani, lamb niligiri, and roasted eggplant entrees were all spot-on in terms of flavor, consistency of the sauce base, and portion size. The side dishes of lentils and garlic naan were as equally excellent (I even preferred these to Rasika's). I also really enjoyed the lychee bubbles cocktail, maybe a bit too much. My main complaints: the overcooked lamb and the dessert offerings and execution. But overall the place was constantly packed, and while the service was a bit slow, the food and reasonable prices made up for that flaw. This may become my go-to spot for Indian... read more

This restaurant is nothing short but fantastic! My co-sponsor and I came upon this restaurant with our students during the National History Day contest in the summer of 2022. We are from Silver City, New Mexico and it was an opportunity for our students to experience authentic Indian food. They loved it and demanded that we come back again, which we did this last summer. The food is incredible. The Lamb Vindaloo and the Tandoori chicken were the favorites although we sampled a wide variety of the menu. The staff and service was out of this world. They went out of their way to take care of us and to answer any and all questions about the menu. Of note, we have a student who is gluten free and this was his favorite place to eat in DC. Amazing food! Ordered delivery so i'm only rating their food. It was delicious. Very flavorful, and great portions. It was ready and delivered in less than 30minutes. Ordered from delivery service and half of the order didn't show up. Called the restaurant and they were very respectful and apologetic. I told them that a refund for the forgotten items would be fine. Instead, someone from the restaurant drove their own car 20+ minutes to drop off what was missed. Needless to say I was very impressed with their customer service. When we finally sat down to eat we were blown away by the great flavors. The garlic naan and tandoori chicken were fantastic and a fan favorite. A friend who hasn't had a lot of indian food in the past was amazed at how good it was! I went here with my girlfriend for the first time last week and we had an amazing experience. The service was great, the food was absolutely delicious, and the drinks were very good as well. Our waiter was very outgoing and steered us in the right direction. We ordered the chicken curry indique and the chicken tikka makhani; both were amazing and very filling. We also ordered a side of garlic naan bread which was incredible. Our table was right next the kitchen window where we could see them making it. The hard work they put into making it really showed! Somehow Indique has become the brunch and birthday dinner location of choice for my entire friend group, and I'm totally cool with it. Every time we come here, the wait staff is extremely kind. They do a great job of welcoming us, even when we come through with a huge group (which is pretty much every time), and they are extremely accommodating. The place itself has a nice cozy feel, perfect for a date or a larger get together, and I see tables for both every time I'm there. As for the food, I think it's amazing. Being uncultured as I am, butter chicken is one of the only dishes I can remember the name of, and Indique's is great. But the same goes for all of their dishes. And if you're around for brunch make sure you try a rum lassi, it's delicious. To be completely honest, I've never ordered my own food here (aside from the lassi). Everything is family style, so I leave the food orders to my friends who know what they're doing. I also don't know authentic Indian food, but again my friends tell me this is the real deal. And who am I to doubt them? Especially when it tastes so good. I think Indique is one of the only places where I have something other than eggs benedict and mimosas for brunch, and to me that's priceless. 10/10. read more

My experience at Indique a few nights ago was hands down one of the best meals I've ever had accompanied by the nicest service. We love Indian food and think this definitely rivals Rasika. It was my boyfriend's and my anniversary and we had indicated on our online reservation that we would like a nice table--we were seated upstairs near the glass windows overlooking outside and it was absolutely perfect. Here's what we ordered: Shrimp puchka shots, 5 stars: I don't even like shrimp and these were amazing! The shrimp was cut up with some sort of chutney and put inside these crispy pappadom-esque spheres and served over 3 different kinds of savory yogurt shots. This was super fun to eat and delicious! A must have. Duo of chaats, 5 stars: The two chaats were crunchy, super flavorful, and had an amazing sauce. Chicken curry indique, 5 stars: We weren't really expecting this to be spicy, but it was super spicy! Definitely get a mango lassi if you're ordering this. It was my favorite thing we had all night; it was similar to butter chicken but much spicier and a little less tangy. Deeelicious!!! Peppercorn beef, 3 stars: This was the only thing that fell flat during the meal. It was a bit drier than I expected and could have used some more sauce. On top of all that, the service was fast, incredibly friendly, and they made a huge effort to make sure we had a special night. They brought us free glasses of champagne and a delicious cheesecake-y dessert that we devoured even though our stomachs were stuffed. I am so excited to be living around the corner from Indique--can't wait to try the brunch! Thank you! read more

I wish I'd liked Indique a little bit more. Maybe it was an off night? We were there as a group of four at 6:30 on a Friday and managed to grab a table in the bar area. (Which, honestly, was great because we had stopped into Bindaas, and was told there weren't tables available until 9pm...although there were 2 empty tables for four.) We ordered (2) samosas to share, the chutney sampler, regular and garlic naan, saag paneer, bagara baingan, chicken tikka makhani, and the masala okra. The samosas were good -- very different in presentation than just a couple of samosas. The saag paneer came out room temperature, nearly cold? It was truly disappointing. This is usually one of my favorite dishes, and it was honestly not good. The masala okra and the tikka makhani were probably the best of the four dishes. I liked the bagara baingan (served as whole roasted baby eggplants in the dish, not cut up!), but as the dish cooled it congealed in the bowl. Two from our group had pieces of crunchy, uncooked rice mixed in with the bowls of cooked rice. The naan was also very thin, which I'm not used to. Overall -- I love Indian food and will even eat it if it's not great. But I don't have much reason to return all the way out in this area of DC, so will likely not come back. read more

Went to Indique with my honey and we loved it! I had been about a year ago, whereas he had never been. Last time I ate here, it was so busy I had to wait a while for a table, tonight there was no wait and we got to sit on the private balcony! Service was excellent, staff is exceptionally friendly and attentive! Each item is artfully crafted, making the meal both a culinary & artistic experience! I was sad to hear that the restaurant no longer serves pani poori shots, or "puschka" shots- an appetizer I had that last time I went to the chic restaurant! We ordered the samosa chaat and lobster bisque to start (highly recommend both!) For our main course, we opted for the shallot potatoes, paneer pasanda, garlic naan, and a side of dal tadka.
