Some of the BEST Indian food I've had in a while, and their lunch special is AWESOME!! Come HUNGRY and you'll get a great sampling of some of their best offerings in the "package deal" meals. With each entree, you'll get soup, rice, Naan, and a dessert. Great flavors, generously size portions, reasonable prices, sooooo much variety... Updating my review here. Food is much better than during my prior visit. There is no buffet but there is a chef's choice platter at lunch with your entree, that provides a good variety of various types of food. They also now actually refill your drinks, which is nice. Their garlic naan bread is amazing as well. I'm really big on spicy food so I always ask for it super spicy and man do they deliver! If I could come here for lunch everyday I would. The staff who handle front of house I think are the owners. They are very sweet and so helpful. They check to make sure you're liking everything and get your food served quick. Hello fellow, foodies! I know Dakshin has been around for a while, but I recently discovered them a couple months ago, and I've been here twice. The first time I was here I ate outside and it was such a lovely day to do so, so I didn't get to spend much time inside. For this review, I ate inside, and I can tell you that the place is just very beautifully decorated. it has more of a darker ambience to it, and the music is not too loud but there is that wonderful Indian feel to it. They have jars with spices that line the wall and a nice bar that you can go to and have a couple drinks if you would prefer. Both times that I've been here, we were served by the same woman, and she is the sweetest thing. She reminds me of the mother figure who makes sure you're eating enough. She's such a gracious hostess. We ordered from their lunch menu and we were greeted with these small morsels of a verity of different foods: the main dish being what we ordered. I couldn't tell you want anything was but I LOVED that! When I was in the Middle East, they did this same thing so it's a little nostalgic for me. I don't think there was a single thing I didn't like. I also like the fact you get to choose your protein selection. I chose goat and it was fabulous. If you've never had goat, I recommend trying it here. It was cook so well. Mild flavor that took on the Butter Masala dish and it left me wanting more. Came here for their lunch platter after much recommendation and oh my god it did not disappoint. First of all, look at this picture! Super generous with the food and love the little variety of sides they surprise you with. Also, it's hard to find a place in CBus with as good goat curry, but they were on-point with the South Indian curries. The medium was a good amount of spice for me and the naan and rice were good portions to the curry that you get. Also the owner and the waitress were super nice and checked on us multiple times. Coming from the UK, where there are authentic Indian/Pakistani restaurants on most street corners in the big cities, Been in about 4 times within the year hoping for something special showing the intricate flavors in Indian cuisine, but I have to say I was rather disappointed with Dakshin"s offerings. The last time we were in we had Chicken Tikka Masala, which originated in the Shish Mahal restaurant in my home town, Glasgow. It was incredibly bland; and the Lamb Biryani was too dry. Folks, I may have found my new #1 favorite Indian food spot! A friend and I picked this place, as Bubbly Hall just looked, well, dead. One lady was running front of house - great, friendly personality. Their menu is full of offerings, descriptions, and pictures. Multiple things popped out, so we tried their Chicken Somosas, Chicken Tikka Masala, Shahi Korma (chicken), Cabbage Poriyal, and Paneer Naan. I loved their Korma sauce - coconut milk and cashews, mmm. And the chicken chunks were very manageable size-wise and very tender (these two descriptions don't always go together when associated with Indian and Chinese food, as many times the chicken is tough/gritty or overcooked). The cabbage dish was delicious, too. Not salty, per se, but definitely spiced, I can see how it may come across as salty, but I liked the flavor nonetheless. Dakshin has really good food with super authentic dishes! One con is that they charge an "automatic gratuity" on every order. I ordered takeout one time and did not order via any app - just went inside the restaurant and ordered at the counter for a to go order. First, owner (I believe he was) added tax; I corrected him saying there shouldn't be any tax added to to go orders - he apologized and said he accidentally hit "dine in" Secondly, I asked him what the "automatic gratuity" was and he (while pointing at his kitchen) claimed his cooks only get paid $3/hour and that is why he has this auto gratuity. I stated that: a) he didn't have to tell me what his cooks make (but really cooks should be making at least min wage) and b) there shouldn't be forced gratuity especially for take out/to go orders (it was 10% of the subtotal) He could tell I caught him in a lie. I'd be happy to tip if I were dining in or if I had the food delivered. But I drove to the restaurant myself and walked up to the counter to order and planned to eat at home. I visited this establishment a few years ago when it was Dublin, Ohio. I didn't have a great experience at that time. So I had not been back. When I saw that they were on my side of town, I just drove by it time and time again because of my previous experience. For some reason, as I was driving up Hamilton rd. Something told me I should go in and grab a bite to eat. When I arrived at the restaurant, the owner was there, and he was preparing to shut down. Dakshin closes at three on Sunday and opens back up at 5 pm. I arrived at the door at 2:48 pm. I decided to leave and try to come back at another time, but the owner beckoned me to come in. While In the restaurant. The owner talked to me for about 2 hours. I must admit that this was a great combo because I learned a lot. He explained to me the food and how good it was for me. I got the Chicken Tikka Masala. It was freaking amazing. The chicken was tender, juicy and full of a buttery, creamy tomato flavor. My only complaint is that I wished that I had more. The Naan was prepared to perfection. I couldn't get enough of it. I just loved everything that I had here that day. I plan on going back soon to try the other types of Naan they have as well as their other entres. read more

My first visit to Dakshin and I was pretty surprised by the lunch option they do! I've not visited a restaurant who had such a unique and diverse collection all in one serving dish. You have your main, chosen dish, and it comes with an appetizer, dessert, naan, fruit, vegetables, roasted eggplant, rice and more vegetables! So let me elaborate: the appetizer, I think, was the coated vegetables that seemed crunchy? Not sure if it was fried, but it was really good. There were vegetables next to it, like cauliflower, in kind of a sweeter sauce. I inhaled most of it before I remembered to take this photo. The bottom end was the roasted Indian eggplant. I don't know if I was the biggest fan of this one, personally - it had a sweet, cinnamon/clove kind of taste to it. While I think it wasn't bad by any means, I just don't know if I like sweeter eggplant. But if you're intrigued, try it! It might be your new favorite dish. Rice is rice. I loved it. I mixed it with my mixed vegetables main dish. It was so thick and hearty together, that I had plenty of leftovers. I picked a mild spice and it was still kind of spicy for me! Definitely warmed us up on a chilly day. There were also fresh vegetables! Cabbage and carrots and peppers with black pepper, salt, and oil? I think? It was a good palate cleanser and I've never had vegetables like that before. I was actually a big fan of that salad-type dish. The fruit was a couple pieces of orange. Definitely helped cool my mouth down between those spicy bites. It also broke up the many savory dishes we had. Finally, there was the dessert. I'm pretty sure it was their rice pudding. It smelled super good, but I can't weigh in on the taste. Being a plant-based foodie, the dish contained milk, so I had to pass on that one. They had warm, fresh naan to accompany the many little dishes of food. When we asked the waitress about whether they had roti available (we wanted one without milk in it), she said it was their naan bread. Whether or not it was the correct bread is anyone's guess. I do wish those options were more clearly available, as I do stay away from dairy and eggs. I've seen posts where they're supposed to be two seperate breads, but we were told they're one in the same. That aside, the experience was super filling and relaxing. It was a great stop for a variety of new foods to try at a super affordable price. I ordered a kati roll off a delivery app, and what I got is absolutely nothing like what I ordered. Are they using stock photos? Pictures stolen from another restaurant? I'm baffled! Their online menu shows a picture of an actual kati roll, but what I got was a burrito filled almost entirely with bland rice. I had to go digging to find any paneer at all, and even then, there was no sauce and almost no seasoning. It legitimately tasted like something you could get at a cafeteria in a nursing home. I wish it were easier to find a good kati roll in this town. Their chai also tastes like it came from Starbucks. Dakshin is all right Indian food. It relocated from one busy area to another. They actually moved before that. It's hard to keep track of them as much as they move. The food is good so wherever they are they do that right. I was never at either of its previous locations. It was in Dublin for a few years then it moved to Polaris. Then about a year later it moved to its current location near Gahanna on Hamilton Road. It had a buffet at the location before this one but they didn't have one here. That sucks. Apparently the buffet was good. It's still a new location though. For as much as they move they may be waiting before putting the buffet out. The food on the menu was good though.
