On April 14, had to lay my dog, Terri Berri to rest after almost 15 years. Dr. Cassidy & her staff were amazing & I would highly recommend them for all your pet's needs. My only regret was not finding them sooner. Terri had developed a hacking cough that I thought was just something caught in his throat. On March 21st, he fell down the steps and tried to go here but they were booked so after taking him to the ER I decided to book a follow up appointment here instead of with his old vet. I've been wanting to move vets after numerous incidents. We went in for our first visit with Dr. Cassidy. Melissa at the front desk greeted us. The place is immaculate & bright - so nice & inviting. They have different rooms for everyone. Met Dr. Cassidy who was like a ray of sunshine. She examined Terri throughly & explained everything to us step by step. The hacking cough was a tracheal collapse which is common in Yorkies. She gave us medication. Unfortunately old age and this condition begun to worsen. We had to lay him to rest 2 weeks later. He wasn't eating & stop taking the medication which made it hard for him to sleep. Dr. Cassidy gave us additional options but we could tell he was ready to go. Dakota Veterinary Center's Instagram bio states they are "treating pets the way we would like to be treated," but my experience was the opposite. I brought my healthy six-month-old kitten here for a routine visit after being encouraged by a personal friend of mine who was the clinic manager at the time. During the visit, a cystocentesis was performed by this manager, who is not a licensed veterinarian or veterinary technician, under the supervision of licensed staff. Immediately afterward, my kitten's condition changed--vomiting, lethargy, loss of appetite, and visible distress. Over the following days, I repeatedly expressed concern and was reassured that this was "normal" and blamed on a recent food change, with no urgency or recommendation to bring him back for evaluation. Four days later, I rushed him to an emergency hospital, where he was diagnosed with uroabdomen and suspected bladder rupture and ultimately euthanized due to organ failure. Veterinary science recognizes bladder rupture as a known, life-threatening risk of improperly performed cystocentesis, and this rapid decline does not align with a simple dietary issue. After his death, I contacted the practice multiple times seeking accountability, resolution, and reimbursement, and was ignored. I am sharing this to warn other pet owners that Dakota Veterinary Center's lack of urgency, accountability, and follow-up after an invasive procedure was irresponsible and unethical, and no animal deserves to be treated this way. Their actions raise serious concerns about patient safety and professional standards; I doubt any of their staff would like to be treated the way they treated my late kitten. I brought my new puppy here and I loved the way she was treated off the bat. They were showing her so much love and care as if they've known her forever. When she got sick, they took great care of her and gave her the best treatment. Dr. Alex is amazing and she really is 100% with you. Emma and Josh are great as well, as they took care of my baby. I have brought my rabbit here. There are a lot of pros to Dakota for a rabbit owner. Dr. Stanzione is one of the most experienced rabbit vets in Westchester, and Emily, one of the vet techs, probably knows and cares more about rabbits than 99.99% of vet techs on the planet. I find that the staff is always kind and professional. As someone who has brought my rabbit to several rabbit-savvy vet practices in the area, I find that Dr. Stanzione and Emily are more willing to think outside of the box on creative solutions for your pet, and they also charge a little less (not to say animal care is inexpensive, but I've done some price comparisons of the same services at other practices). The biggest con here is that Dr. Stanzione only works Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, and he also sometimes takes weeks off. If he is working, the practice will work hard to squeeze you in if you have an emergency, and I appreciate that, but if he simply isn't working, you could wait many days for a rabbit appointment. For this reason, I've had to sometimes turn to other veterinary practices for my rabbit in emergencies. But whenever possible, bringing my rabbit to Dakota is my first choice. read more

Firstly, there prices are ridiculous. They are thieves. They just keep doing tests and you walk out of there with a sick baby. They only know how to keep doing expensive testing but won't give a pup an IV for dehydration. They took a stat glucose test and gave him nothing to help him. Just charged me for another unnecessary test. Baby needed a UsG but they didn't want to charge me for unnecessary tests lol. Even mentioning to me (now this is the doctor) that " you said he was feeling better!" What??? After your diagnosis that he is a diabetic, tongue hanging out, and lethargic, how could she say something like that!?!?! I actually asked her. She had no answer. First time using Dakota. Met Dr Alesandra Saura and her assistant. They were so amazing. Very welcoming, caring and very thorough. Spent a fair amount of time with us, explaining issues with our dog. The place is super clean and organized. Very different from many other vets in Scarsdale and Mount vernon where offices are smelly, crowded and barely a place to sit. PET OWNERS BEWARE! Animals can't speak up for themselves. They deserve loving, ethical people to care for them. Not this unscrupulous place. I had a terrible experience at Dakota Animal Center. They are untrustworthy, weirdly secretive and harmful. I took my beloved indoor cat to to get a dental procedure where she ended up having more teeth pulled than expected, which was physically taxing. Backstory: my cat is strictly indoors, very loving, and her up-to-date on all shots, including rabies. After surgery I was told not worry my cat did great during. A few days later: I get a call & email from The Westchester County Government Office stating that my cat bit someone at Dakota, while having a medical procedure, and may have rabies. I have to sign an affidavit or can be fined $2000. I was also told if this happens 2 more times that I may have to have euthanize my cat. My cat is part of my family. This was beyond cruel and insensitive. What is going on in this vet's office? I'm still shocked! My cat doesn't bite. As far as I knew she'd been an angel. I suppose any animal undergoing surgery would be scared and might lash out depending on how they are treated. When I called Dakota for an explanation... I was told she bite a vet tech and he had to file a report because they have worker's comp. Why wasn't I told about this? Nobody called me. How could they tell me everything was fine? Why lie? What else weren't they telling me, and why? Why did I have to hear this from a government report? I'm appalled. Didn't the Vet tech know how to handle a fearful animal? My cat is a lovable indoor animal, nervous in surgery, like anyone would be. None of this was honest or fair. Especially since they had all my cat's medical records and knew she was fully vaccinated for rabies already. So many levels of upset and unprofessionalism. Despite being very experienced in rabbit care( it had been some time since my last bunny) he reviewed her care and re educated me on everything just to be through. Dr Stanzione is an expert on rabbit care. Over the years I've taken all of our bunnies to him. Having said that,The last time I called to have my bunny neutered the price was 1100.00$!!! I took Ollie to another Vet and she did it for 300.00$! Pain medicine included. I just cannot afford his prices anymore. Also the last bunny I brought to him passed away there because although the bunny was in a critical state, he was put in a room, and not tended to because Dr Stanzione wasn't there and they had gotten too busy to see my bunny. My 10 year old dachshund just got done with a dental procedure at Dakota Veterinary Center, and I really want to just rave about the service he received! From start to finish, all the staff I have dealt with at Dakota have been A+ best of the best in their dealings with myself and my dog. Times are at best different and at worst, pretty tough all around with Covid-19 regulations in place. Nothing is as it was anymore, and all types of businesses are affected, including veterinary hospitals. So I was prepared to not be able to go inside and spend the time with him that I would like to. However, Sarina (vet tech) came out to pick up Oscar and communicated to the nth degree exactly how procedures were looking to play out. This happened during his initial office visit, and today, for his actual procedure. She talked me through step by step, everything Oscar would be undergoing and even took the time to make herself available for any Q&A I had via telephone call, whenever I had questions. Dr. Marteney did the exact same, breaking down each step of the procedure and putting it all into layman's terms for me. I was nervous because Oscar is getting up there in age and had never been under anesthesia before. But they both walked me through everything, every step of the way, and made me feel completely at ease during an uncomfortable time. Calls were made before and after and communication was paramount, which I am so thankful for. Chantel sent me the breakdown of bills and discussed options with me. I was aware of everything from start to finish which made me feel more in control and I appreciated so much. The staff I dealt with at Dakota are *definitely* rockstars and seem to be in this business because of their genuine love for animals.... Through patronizing Dakota Veterinary Center in White plains, it has become increasingly evident that they care very little about the well-being of their patients and are solely motivated by making the most money possible from each client. The doctors at Dakota increased and exacerbated the suffering of my beloved pet and then, to add insult to injury, blatantly overcharged me for her euthenasia because they knew that they were my only option for the procedure at that time. Over the past month or so, I had been bringing my dog to Dakota Veterinary Center in White Plains because Whiskey was limping as her leg appeared to be injured. We tried the medicinal route first and picked up a whole host of prescriptions that would have helped her if she had inflammation or arthritis. At a later date, realizing that Dakota's prices were exorbitant ,I filled the same prescriptions at a different veterinarian. Dakota charged me over $100 while the other only charged $16. When it became evident that Whiskey's leg and overall health was deteriorating, we realized that an X Ray was necessary to figure out what was ailing my dog. When we called to schedule an X Ray, they refused to do the X Ray without a whole host of other procedures such as blood tests which they estimated would cost us around $1,000. We explained to Dakota that the price was too much for us to handle and asked if they could work with us by only doing the X Ray. We explained that our Whiskey was suffering and that we needed the X Ray to get to the bottom of things. They agreed at Dakota that Whiskey was indeed suffering and that an Xray was necessary. However, they refused to X Ray our dog unless we agreed to pay the additional fees. Their lack of flexibility at Dakota illustrated their apathy for the suffering of their patient as well as their human clientele. Whiskey's suffering did not matter in the slightest! It was their goal to extract as much money as possible from me at any cost. After about a week of going back and forth with Dakota, it was evident that they would not budge on their estimate. In that week, we saw our dog suffer. She could barely walk, would not wag her tail and was urinating on herself regularly. It was obvious she was in great pain. We shopped around and found a vet office who agreed to do the X Ray only. Yesterday, I took her for the X Ray. After looking at the X Ray, the doctor told me that my dog had cancer and that it had spread throughout her body and that we would need to euthanize her. It was devastating but all parties agreed that Whiskey was in great pain and needed to be euthanized ASAP. I decided to bring Whiskey home to say goodbye to my wife and daughter and bring her in later that day to be put down. Furthermore, on the estimate from Dakota, they were charging around $700 for the X Ray and the new veterinarian only charged around $200 for the same procedure. When I saw the bill from the new vet, I became incensed! If Dakota had either worked with my family and me to figure out a fair price for the X Ray, or bypassed their inane and stubborn insistence that they only would provide care with a myriad of unnecessary and expensive tests, we could have figured out that whiskey had painful and terminal cancer weeks earlier. They prolonged my dog's suffering through their greed and apathy! After bringing Whiskey home, my wife and I agreed that she was in so much pain that it was our duty to end her life that day. She could not walk and was whimpering in pain constantly. We called the new vet but they were closed for the day. We then realized that we had no choice. We had to reach out to Dakota Veterinary Center to put Whiskey out of her misery. I called and reluctantly made an appointment for that afternoon. When I arrived, they had me sign the necessary consent forms and took Whiskey in the back room to place a catheter for the procedure. After about 20 minutes of waiting for the procedure to begin, the receptionist walked in with a bill for me to sign. To my shock and dismay, the bill for the euthanasia was aroud $800! I have had to euthanize pets in the past and the price had never been this high. I told the receptionist that the price they quoted me was exorbitantly high and that this procedure should not cost nearly that much. She agreed with me verbally and left the room. When she returned 10 minutes later, she told me that after speaking to the doctors, they refused to change the price and stated that "this is the price of the procedure." When I spoke to them on the phone earlier, I told them about the sense of urgency we had. They knew our dog was suffering and that she needed to be put down ASAP to end her misery. I believe that they used this information against me to strongarm me into paying their insane invoice. When I expressed to the receptionist that I was unhappy with the result of her conversation, she added that if I was unhappy, I could take my dog somewhere else. I wish I could give them a million stars. Such kind staff and so helpful. My Dalmatian passed away 12/20/2016 suddenly and I didn't know what to do Dakota did everything they could to save my dog. I never seen anyone so dedicated to my Kannon. They stayed open late and even called me and let me know every step of the way what was going on. Dr. Gil is absolutely heaven sent I can actually say that he cares about the animals that come into his practice. They cremated my baby and did a beautiful job. Don't come to Dakota Veterinary Center if your Dog or Cat is Sick. THEY ARE VERY EXPENSIVE AND DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR PETS WELL BEING. These are their fees: Caine Neuter (0-20) $1,634.50 to $1,749.50 Blood work $543.00 A Whopping total of $2,292.50 Doctor Gil Stanzione told me that it is because they give better care. Yet, I was there 2 days ago and they did not take my dogs temperature and falsified documents saying that they did. Also they sold me medication saying that it would last for 10 day and sadly the bottle is too small and there is no way that if I applied the medication twice a day that it is enough for 10 days. The Practice has change since Doctor Marteney joined them in 2017. Two days ago Dr. Marteney told me that my dog had blood in in mouth - yet there was no indication of it. Stay away from this Dakota Veterinary Center. I used to Recommended Dakota Veterinary Center because of Doctor Gil. Unfortunately Dr. Gil is hardly is in his practice. The main Doctor today is Doctor Zach Marteney. Doctor Marteney examined my dog in July of 2019 and determined that his tooth had to be pulled and cleaned - THE COST - ALMOST $2500.00. Based on the cost I chose to think about it. I was told that if Dr. Martiney was going to be away for 7 days. So I asked " if I decide to do the procedure will I pay a visit fee again" Doctor Marteney's nurse responeded you wont have to pay an examination fee again if you see Doctor Marteney but if you see any other Doctor within this practice you will have to pay again - she continued to repeat it several times.{ WOW - I no longer wiil have to pay for the prognosis on my dog if I see Dr. Marteney BUT if it is another Doctor within the same practice I would have to pay again.} I am assuming that they have my dogs prognosis in their computer so if one doctor is not available the other should look into the notes and take over but this is not how they work so you pay extra for the same result. Doctor Gil appears never to be there. I was told that Doctor Marteney who joined the practice 2017 and is the main Doctor that is most often there. My question - has Doctor Gil sold his practice or is he partially retired??? If so he Dr. Gil SHOULD notify his patients so we can determine if we wish to continue to go to his practice after all it has changed to a new doctor??? It is not right that a practice should pass on their patients to another doctor without notification. They were very attentive and helpful and explained everything so I understood what was needed. They were cognizant of costs and worked with us to get our rabbit back in tip top shape. Vet care is pricey everywhere and it's tough to find a rabbit friendly vet but they worked with us to get our pet the care she needed. I used Dakota as my vet from when my dog was just a puppy. In my opinion, over the years the owner became primarily concerned with money rather than the care of the animal. I often left paying close to $350 for a visit and when I lost my job and ended up divorced, they wouldn't work with me on payment plans or fees knowing my dog had many extensive medical issues. At this point I had used them for over 8 years so to say I was disappointed was an understatement. I am not going to say that the care they give animals is not good but the cost is so astronomical that sometimes you may have to forgo testing or medication because of the cost of care. I eventually stopped using them because of the high cost of care and went elsewhere with my pet. I found an amazing vet who worked with me on costs and took excellent care of my dog. An update after five years....Dakota is as good as ever! Service with a smile and I trust their skills with my dogs. Just the usual complaint that i can't leave there without forking over $300. Doesn't matter what it is, if I show up with my dog, I will pay $300 even for a five-minute appointment. Wish they would stop charging me $300 then slapping on an "environmental disposal fee" on top of it. That should be the cost of business, same as I am not charged for your use of electricity and water during my dog's appointment. All in all, good service, I haven't heard of a better, cheaper alternative in the Hartsdale area. Just be prepared for a $300 shakedown for a small issue. read more

My husband and I board our bunny, fudgie, here when we go on trips. The first time we dropped her off, we went upstairs to check out the place she would be staying. It clean and well kept, not crowded. Animals seemed well cared for. The staff here are great, and also very flexible. We usually give 1-2 days notice to drop off fudgie aren't stressed about picking her up at any specific time when we get back. Also, they do a great job with her nail trim which is no easy task! Definitely recommend for boarding if you have to go away for a few days. read more

Our 3 month GSD was treated for hookworms at our home ..after several days we noticed Chip the puppy had very labored breathing ..we called on a Saturday morning at 800 am and .Dr. M. told us to come right in.We did , and Chip was diagnosed with a pneumonia... Not only did Dr .M .treat Chip for 2 1/2 days at his office ... but there was no fee. One morning we were startled to see my indoor rabbit's eye bulging out and he was very lethargic. We rushed him to my old vets (Not Dakota). The bunny had multiple life threatening abscesses rapidly building behind his eye and jaw. My old vets treated him conservatively for three weeks with little-to-no improvement. The abscesses persisted and the weekly visits required surgical and manual drainage and flushing. I felt terrible about how we were diminishing the quality of this poor guys life. Someone convinced me to get a second opinion from Dr Gil Stanzione at Dakota Vet Center. Thank goodness I listened. Dr Stanzione--who is a widely respected rabbit expert--chose a very different course of treatment. First of all, Dakota Vet Center has sophisticated state-of-the-art equipment that gave Dr Gil complete visibility into the rabbit's eye and jaw. The doc was also no nonsense about medication. He prescribed exactly what was needed. Period. Within one week the little bun was remarkably improved. Within a month, he was completely off meds. What a stunning turnaround! Moreover, Dr. Gil has a wonderful manner. He is genuinely compassionate and has tremendous patience. I never felt rushed. Everything was explained in detail and he gave me clear instructions on home treatment. He also helped me understand the reasoning behind what we were doing, which I found enormously helpful. The vets and staff here are friendly, knowledgeable, caring, and take extremely good care of both my dogs, one of whom is a senior. I would recommend this veterinary practice! And in response to people who say that the vets are not knowledgeable, my 12 year old 7lb Maltese got a dental surgery under general anesthesia with Dr. Gil, and my dog is much happier and so am I. I never once doubted their expertise with this fragile situation. In addition, they were very sensitive when he needed a biopsy. As for the pricing, if you want cheap work go to whomever claims to be a vet around the way, but that brings cheap results. I will do anything for my fur babies, and they do explain things in detail to include pre-surgical costs. I suspect the people who claim that the front desk staff is curt and unprofessional were probably not the nicest themselves. You get what you give. It is disappointing that this practice has some bad reviews but hopefully people will just see for themselves. I could not be more pleased with the care my pet has received at Dakota Veterinary Center. My rabbit is a patient of Dr.Gil and he is by far the best veterinarian I've seen, and we've been to several. We drive all the way from the Bronx to see him! When I brought concerns of my rabbit's joints and mobility issues, he helped diagnosis Baby with arthritis and medication when other vets just brushed it off. He also did routine bloodwork and explained the results thoroughly. He's very honest and gives the pros/cons to any decision you make, but also pushes what he feels is best for the pet, which I appreciate. After a few trips to the emergency room, we drove up to see Dr.Gil and get his opinion on Baby's vaginal bleeding. He diagnosed her with uterian cancer and recommended operating. Since she is 10 years old, I was very worried of putting her under anesthesia. He laid out all of the options for me and convinced me it was the best thing to do for her, and he was right! The surgery was finished 20 minutes after I left with no complications! Baby is doing absolutely wonderful, you wouldn't even know she had surgery! It was pretty pricey, but you can't skimp on quality care for your pet. The women at the front desk are all nice. I called many times while my rabbit was recovering to check in on her, and they always found answers to my questions and kept me at ease. They also submit all pet insurance paperwork very quickly, which I appreciate. Dr.Gil honestly knows so much about rabbits. He is very experienced and I trust his medical opinion 10000%. My cat was diagnosed by Dakota vet first time with ear mites and a year later with allergy for the same symptoms (scratching ears). She was prescribed both times the same medication. In April 2021 my cat was scratching her ears again and I called the office to ask to do a refill on the medication that they prescribed previously since I was Covid positive and I was under quarantine and couldn't bring my cat to the vet. I spoke to the receptionist and was told they have to see my cat. I had no one to bring my cat in besides I was not going to expose anybody to the Covid I had. My pleading to understand my position and also to speak with the vet was ignored. No Dakota vet called me back as I begged. They have no compassion for animals as well people knowing my situation at that time. They are no longer my cat's vets. read more

This is an odd review, I've never visited this Vet, however I have a local business in the area and a customer brought in thier new pup today. After talking and playing with the dog, I offered water. They informed me that they were told by this vet office to only "offer" water 3x a day removing the bowl in between. I hope the Dr reads this and replies because if that girl mis-understood, that pup is in trouble. I have rescued and owned well over a dozen dogs and never, ever heard of this. Fresh clean Water should be available at ALL times. I can supply information to the Vets office if needed. read more

*****Dakota Saved My Puppy's Life***** My puppy of 6 months had become suddenly sick with persistent vomiting. We rushed her to the Vet ER after it became bile-like in appearance. After a few hours of hydration and meds and an X-ray, we decided to take Lola home for observation. Throughout the night she became worse. We rushed her at 8am to Dakota Veterinary Center. As soon as the doctor came in they immediately processed her. An Hour later she was hooked up to the IV, and we reviewed her abdominal sonogram. The Vet was certain she had something in her intestine that was causing blockage. Surgery was performed almost immediately after we consented. Low and behold, it was a plum pit that was stuck in her intestine. She swallowed that pit during a walk! Lola had high bands and a lot of high lab values that pointed towards inflammation. She could have gotten septic really fast so we are very happy on how the situation was treated with urgency. Lola stayed over night for two days and she is recovering home with us. Yes, i can agree that Dakota is a little bit pricer, but you are absolutely paying for high quality, experienced care. Thank you very much Dakota.. Lola still has some time to heal, but i have to say i am very pleased with this office. Serena at the front desk is very helpful and Dr Martini and Dr Gil Stanzone are wonder pet physicians. Took my 7 year old rabbit here for a check up as a referral from my girlfriend. Reason for the visit, Mittens was making weird noises and she wasn't really eating . Made appt with Dr. Gil. I explained beforehand to the receptionist and and the doctor that she is not good with strangers nevermind trying to be handled by one. (first time we took her to the vet ever) . My husband and I take her into the room , and Dr. Gil attempts to get her out of the carrier with a struggle . both my husband and I try with no luck as well. Dr. Gil calls in his very unfriendly assistant and she really struggles with getting a hold of her . Mittens was really scared and nervous- never saw her like that before. They get her on the table , hold her down and tried to swaddle her in a towel . .. assistant says "she's stressed , she stressed !" and all of a sudden my rabbit goes limp. Dr. Gil listens for heartbeat and said heartbeat is fine (which I don't believe), scoops her limp body into another room for 'oxygen" .. we waited for what seemed like days (receptionist even pokes her head in to say how cute our rabbit was since she just saw her in the other room , I asked was she moving and she was like "oh, I don't know" ) . Dr comes in and said she didn't make it . She had what we assume a heart attack right in front of us .. heartbroken to say the least . Yes, I know they needed to do what they can in order to examine Mittens , but I think they could have been more gentle and realize maybe stop and slow down , let her calm down . Dr Gil then asks if he can take xrays in order to see what was wrong with her (free of charge) . He comes in , shows us the xrays and said she was in bad shape with tumors in her stomach and 25% lung capacity. He stated she would have lasted days anyway. Something in my head tells me that maybe he was just saying that in order to cover his tracks .. I guess we'll never know . So I leave there with an empty carrier and $276 later , I pay for my Mittens to die in their hands .. (Office visit & cremation fees) I would be very cautious going here read more

I was nervous about bringing my girls to the vet during the pandemic and not being able to accompany them during their exam since they are on the skittish side. I was expecting them to be freaked out afterward and hiding for the rest of the day after they got home. They were totally fine and their usual, happy selves after our appointment. Dr. Marteney took the time to answer questions and also share information on overall care and well-being. It was a reassuring experience during an uncertain time.
