We were looking forward to dining here based on a recommendation from family in Hatteras. Our experience was both good and bad. The bad first - dinner service starts at 5 and if you arrive earlier you can sit in an outside garden waiting area. This area while attractive unfortunately attracted quite a few mosquitoes and most of us were bitten. Upon seating inside the dining area, our waiter was disinterested in serving us, we batted at the many flies that had entered through the open front door and dinner was served on chipped plates. The good - the food was excellent. Most of us ordered the Shrimp Poor Boys, which were very tasty. So much so that we continued to talk about the sauce that was on the sandwich the following day. Service was really lacking and not at all attentive. We waited over an hour for our entrees to arrive(the restaurant was not even half full). People who were sat after us got their food, ate, and left. No updates or anything as we sat with empty glasses waiting hungrily. The dining area allows dogs, so if you sit outside you may have poorly trained animals scrabbling around you. The dogs eventually did start to look appetizing as the wait continued. When the food finally did arrive it was good. The fish tacos and oysters were good. The shrimp tacos were very disappointing with two medium shrimp in each one. For a 16$ entree three shrimp per taco would be the minimum. The side of beans and rice were surprisingly good. read more

Absolutely horrible experience. I will say the food was pretty good, but that wasn't the issue. I'll numerate the issues which entirely revolve around the waitress: 1. She never once asked any of us if we wanted another drink. 2. During the actual dinner service, showed up at after it was over to bring out to-go containers and the check. 3. She made assumption about the menu instead of confirming because what I said and what she thought were two different things. 4. She completely forgot about the kids drink. I had to ask a completely different waitress. 5. When the kids mac and cheese came out I asked about the sides (this wasn't until everyone was done eating since she didn't show up). The waitress explained to me that the menu is a misprint and that the kids mac and cheese didn't come with sides. I asked why she didn't say that when we ordered. She said it was a misprint. I told her that's not our fault. She claimed we made out because it's more mac and cheese. I explained that with kids it's not about "making out" but with options since kids are typically picky. 6. I asked for the check and to-go boxes. She dropped off the boxes quickly and we waited a couple of minutes for the check. When she dropped it off I asked to speak to a manager while handing her my card. She said there's a 20% gratuity Included and took a few steps away, turned back, and said I'm actually a part owner. I explained to her the myriad of issues to which she had absolutely zero accountability for and would misdirect instead of taking a single responsibility. When I asked her if she ever asked if we wanted another drink her response was "I filled up the water". (We had alcohol). If you've ever worked a single day in the service industry or ever been to a normal restaurant it's standard for the waitress to ask if we would like another drink or if we need anything; either would have worked. The fact that everything we brought up to her was met with agitation and resentment towards us os absolutely despicable. If she is an owner, she needs to reevaluate her position in serving. There's a chance she's a good businesswoman, but she should never serve a table in her life. Quite simply put: she gave herself 20% because of 6 individuals were at the table, and therefore she didn't have to do her job. Just so we are clear, after trying to reason with this individual and getting to the point where I gave up to her condescending nature, I told her to go f*** herself. It was our first time trying this place, we started off eager to try some tasty food. Much to our surprise, it took about 10 minutes to get seated (no problem at all). They asked for our drinks and returned shortly after to take our food orders. No one returned for at least 40 minutes, not even to refill our waters or give us an update on our food. I had to walk and ask the host what was going on. They CLEARLY had forgotten to put our order in and gave us some stupid excuse about making sure the chicken was fully cooked!! We finally received our food after over an hour. Honestly, the food was very good. My burger did not have much flavor but overall, great food. This is the best restaurant in OBX. I am glad that I found this place to eat during visiting on OBX. We got here around 3PM to eat lunch. So it was off timing. we had a Tuna Ceviche. It had a nice spicy kick to it. The fish was amazingly fresh. I had a local fish sandwiches. The fish was red drum. It didn't have strong flavor. It was nice white fish. Dajio made everything right with the world the second I took a bite of their local fish of the day. I had a bit of a dilemma and they were able to solve it oh so easily. I commuted to the island of Ocracoke by way of airplane and the regulations for the island's report prohibit night time departures, so it was already 6:00pm (time goes by quick on this amazing little island) - sunset sets at 7:15pm and I still had to get back to the airport. All that to say I was in a mad dash for dinner. I let them know and they put in an order for my sister and I right away and 15 minutes later it was on our table along with the bill. We rushed through the meal, but I still remember every bite fondly. I ordered the locally caught fish (there are so many fishermen on the island so I hope it was quite literally caught by one of them) and enjoyed it grilled with a side of fried potatoes and brocolli. It was served with side of housemade tartar sauce and everything was oh so delicious. The fish was perfectly flaky, tender and flavorful. It didn't need the tartar sauce, but it was so delicious I couldn't help myself but to dip the fish in it. The potatoes were interesting and multi-colored. There were some purple ones, regular colored potatoes, etc. They seemed to be a mix of baked and fried and were delightful with the brocolli, but the local fish is really where it was at. If you're coming here and are a lover of seafood and good service, you won't be disappointed. They have an indoor and outdoor seating area as well and the ambiance is quite nice. Delicious lunch today! Friendly service: (I believe she was the owner) was very kind and accommodating for our large party, dogs included. Our server, Lee, was very patient and did a great job keeping up with us all. Food and drinks were excellent! If you ever find yourself on Ocracoke Island you must go to Dajio. We were only there for 2 nights and our dinner was so good the first night we didn't hesitate to go back the second. We started with the crab empanadas which were hot, crispy and filled with tender crab meat. My husband had the grouper special and I had the filet mignon special with grilled asparagus and risotto. The grouper was tender and juicy. My filet was cooked exactly as I ordered it and absolutely melted in my mouth. The second night we ordered off their regular menu: a Dajio house burger and a shrimp po'boy. Both excellent. We also ordered a side of the house grits - with roasted poblanos and Gorgonzola cheese. They were phenomenal! We have to give a special shoutout to our server Chris. We were lucky enough to have him both nights. The house was packed the first night we went and he was busy but we never felt neglected or hovered over either. He took good care of us from drinks to dessert! This place is SO awesome. Love music on the patio was great! The Ocracoke Oyster Soup was to DIE FOR. My husband and I were blown away with how simple and delicious the soup and entire meal was.
