A lovely, welcoming tea room in a charming village, located next to Bishop's Lydeard's historic church.
They serve freshly cooked breakfasts, light lunches, homemade cakes and cream teas, and there is a selection of artisanal jams and preserves, as well as hand-made greetings cards and artwork for sale. The menu includes sandwiches, baked potatoes and omelettes. Everything is cooked freshly to order.
On our visit we had beans on toast with a fried egg, and a small vegetarian breakfast, with a pot of tea. The pot of tea was very generous and - joy of joys - was made with real tea and came with a tea-strainer. My veggie breakfast came with a hash brown, wholemeal toast, beans, egg, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes and fried halloumi sticks. Regrettably, we didn't have room or time to sample the wonderful-looking home-made cakes! The overall bill, for the. food, together with the large pot of tea, came to £17.
Service was extremely friendly, and they didn't mind us asking for a cooked meal just 20 minutes before they were due to close. (Note: they close at 3:30 except on Fridays when it is 4pm.)
The cafe also welcomes dogs and has customer wi-fi and offers contactless payment. Parking is a bit pot-luck, though we managed to find a space just down the road. read more
