We managed to get a table inside, and decided on light snack of a teacake and to sample the Tregothnan tea (Cornish tea). The peppermint tea was light and refreshing, just perfect for a hot summer's day. The kitchen inside was a hive of activity, as more and more people descended on the tea rooms. We would have liked to sample more of the menu, but sadly we had a long journey ahead of us that day, but there's always the next time we visit Boscastle!

The cafe serves vast and gorgeous breakfasts, full of local ingredients and just what you need before a long day on the beach. For a healthier choice you can have porridge with banana and honey, or fruit salad with yoghurt and museli. There are homemade salads, pastas and tapas for lunchtimes, and in season the cafe opens in the evening (give them a call beforehand to check). We had great tapas for our wedding anniversary last year - not quite what we'd planned, but somehow better for it. We went in October and still managed to sit outside and enjoy the scenery. The tea rooms are small, but if you are in the area, I suggest you visit. I do recall staggering into them after a night on the shandy, hoping for something to cure a hangover. A pot of their fresh made tea and a mountain of hot buttered toast usually did the trick. These little tea-rooms are clean, bright, superbly run and serve everything to set off a perfect summer's afternoon. Teas, scones (delicious) hot buttered toast (vital) and home-made cakes, along with filled rolls, all make for a perfect snack to enjoy whilst looking out over the bay. When the sun is shining on the waters of the River Dart t's just so beautiful. If you enjoy the castle, then take time out for tea & scones at the tea-rooms to complete the experience.
