The only available creamer was pumpkin spice which I'd never had in my life. What is a Hillel you ask? It was salmon, caper, onion, and cream cheese in a bagel for about 10 bucks, however either it was tasty or I was starving and would have enjoyed a spam sandwich. The college aged staff were reasonably friendly, accommodating, and my order was ready in a jiffy. The cafe is located on the campus of Washington & Lee University whose current president has a left-leaning agenda for its students. Not a bad deal for a quick meal if you're hungry. Now let's get down to the actual reason for the three stars. I ordered a Waygu smashburger, which was $17 including french fries. I'm from California so this is a normal every day price for me. The hamburger was not exceptional, but it was good. I enjoyed it. It was not overly seasoned and the meat was a good quality and it was pretty good size. I was able to cut it in half and enjoy the other half later. My review is for the french fries. I realize they're fresh cup fries, but I eat at restaurants all the time and I'm able to have crispy fresh cut fries. These were soaked in grease, Wimpy, and the seasoning obviously has sugar in it, which really came through because they were over seasoned. I do not like wasting food and I tried to figure out a way to save these fries so that I could actually digest them, but there was no saving them. My recommendation to this restaurant is to work on your french fries or eliminate them, offer a side salad or offer potato chips with your hamburger. One you will not waste food and you won't risk a bad review. The second reason for this review was the coffee. I ordered a decaf Americano. I'm not sure where they're getting their roast, or if the barista was just not trained on how to pull a proper espresso to make the Americano, but the coffee was very bitter. I'm very particular about my coffee and there's no reason to serve a bitter Americano. The positive: love biscuits, and I really love the ambience of that place. It is truly a market where you can find just about anything including gifts and gourmet foods. I think they could really enhance that environment by adding a whole spice section with unique spices because there's no place in Lynchburg where you can find those. It's such a great location and such a nice vibe when you walk in the door because the staff breeds you with a smile and genuine kindness. They have just opened so please take this review with a grain of salt and give it a try for yourself. I would definitely have the Burger again, sans French Fries.

What really stood out was the number of locals having breakfast.
