I only came here because my mom wanted ice cream. She ordered a hot fudge sundae and my son ordered a brownie Oreo confection. The brownie thing was 720 calories and it wasn't even that big. All that stood out to me here is all of the artificial flavoring they use. Everything was purple or some unnatural color. Nonetheless, my mom enjoyed her soft serve and my son didn't say anything great. The service went fast and the lady was nice. There is ample parking a small area to sit outside and eat behind the building. read more

Don't get me wrong I love me some Dairy Queen but I didn't like the way a worker talked to me the last time I went there. I went on a Sunday, it was kind of busy and I ordered a small M&M blizzard. I stepped away from the window so other people order as well since that seemed to be what was going on at the other window. About five minutes later my ice cream was called and I walked up to the window to grab it when the worker very rudely said "next time just stay at the window". Even though I didn't like this experience it probably won't stop me from coming back to this location again. I just hope I have a better interaction with the workers next time. read more

It seemed like the whole town stopped by when i got there so there was a long wait. They were prepared tho, with 4 employees so the line moved fast. This location needs to take a serious look at who they are hiring. I have never been treated so poorly. I completely understand business hours and was there prior to closing. The young man who helped asked if it was okay to serve and all agreed. Then my little girl and I were subject to the most passive aggressive behavior. The two female employees were talking loud enough where we could hear and were using explicit and vulgar language to describe me and other customers that walked up after me. This continued the entire visit and before leaving one of the employees thought it was a good idea to get in her car and race around the tiny parking lot revving her engine repeatedly while dropping F*bombs while other people were pulling in. All these employees cared about was leaving early and letting everyone know how disgusted they were to still be at work. I am completely disgusted at this encounter and will ensure that I tell anyone and everyone about the way me and my family were treated. It is unfortunate that you leave a place and have to explain to your child, why someone was using language like that at a business. If you go to this establishment make sure you don't show up any where close to closing time. You will get the wrong things and told they are right and you get to hear some pretty colorful language and possibly see a car race. I have been to several Dairy Queens throughout the south. I fell in love with the DQ in the early 70's as an employee in high school. I have to say, the Dairy Queen on Oleander Drive in Wilmington, NC is the worst when it comes to customer service. Not only poor service, but they are scared they are going to go over a smidgen on the ice cream. I asked them to add a little more and I would pay for it but the rude young man with the blonde curly hair said he would have to make an entire new banana split if he added any ice cream to it. I had not even gotten it yet. This is not the first time this has happened at this location. I stop at the Dairy Queen in the Clayton area every time I'm in that area. Always great customer service and the serving of ice cream is plentiful when I order a banana split. In other words, I pay for ice cream and toppings instead of just toppings! I very seldom ever give a review of any business less than a three. But when a young teenage man that is young enough to be my grandson shows me disrespect and smarts off at me when I ask for just a smidge more of ice cream to go on my banana split, the business deserves a 1-star rating. I have never seen the owner at this location in my 33 years in Wilmington. It appears the training of staff should be a little more closely monitored along with a lesson in respect for the customer. I haven't been to a DQ in years! Boyfriend wanted a blizzard, so we came here. It's one of the old ones were you walk up to it and order. There were only two other people who had ordered and were waiting. The girl working behind the counter was very nice. The blizzard came out a few minutes later. While it was a bit smaller than my boyfriend remembered it being, he still enjoyed it immensely. If you're craving a blizzard from DQ, this is the place to go. read more

Worst customer service and Dairy Queen I've ever been to in my life. Actually went as far as to contact Corporate after our "visit" for the now second time. We went here about 30 mins to close a few weeks ago. We live about 35 mins away. So one and hour ten minutes in total of driving both times to deny our service both times. It was the same young male employee both times. He already cleaned the ice cream machine that made the swirl cones and refused to give us the ice cream we came for because, as he stated, it would require him to clean the machine all over again. We left without any ice cream and drove another 35 minutes home pissed off and highly disappointed. We tried again today about 45 minutes to close and same kid said the same thing. We literally were like are you kidding me?!? Surely you have to make an exception as you denied us it last time and again we drove 35 minutes to get there. Nope!! He and the other worker said they would not be cleaning the machine again and practically laughed at us. Nowhere on menu or website does it say it is a limited menu an hour before close. This is unacceptable and wasted two hours of our time. HORRIBLE! Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else. They could care less about their customers. After all these decades of seeing new ice cream places come and go....Dairy Queen is still around....dumpy 50's look in a old Levi's chic way. Most of their stores look like one of those 50's ice cream trucks that broke down and they made a store around it in a parking lot. The faded and eclectic assortment of signs that advertise each flavor and variation make the place look like its ready for demolition to make way for the next freeway. Yes, they don't have the Moca Java Pina Colada Tropical Fruit Green Tea German Chocolate Crunch flavor you find in today's boutique establishments. They don't look fashionable or "in" with todays operating room sterile look. But their soft serve is still on the creamiest, full bodied ice creams around. It's very basic but a great foundation to build shakes, sundaes, chocolate dipped cones, banana splits, and blizzards (their version of the mixin's). The best part of Dairy Queen is that they taste all the same across the country. I've known some very wealthy people that seek out Dairy Queens while on travel for a quick snack. I challenge anyone in the Generation X or Yuppie age groups to compare Dairy Queen soft serve ice cream to any ice cream chain. read more

This is a very subpar Dairy Queen. It made me question the requirements to be a franchise owner. There were embarrassing spelling mistakes on the homemade menu. (Yes they have a homemade menu!) the ice cream is fine, but the ratios are obviously way off - too be clear I watched things get mixed that weren't even measured just eyeballed. My Mom and two Aunts LOVE ice cream. They were in town visiting when the Dairy Queen on Oleander made their vacation turn sour instead of sweet. The assistant manager was helping my aunt. Her service with a smile was apparently out of order this afternoon. Even after buying a total of ten items from Dairy Queen, she quickly turned down my Aunt's request for a cherry on top. She said there would be an extra charge. The employee finished the order by putting spoons in the desserts. We told her we would prefer lids and she agitatedly took the spoons out to find lid replacements. I can honestly say no one smiled once. This is an old school DQ no burgers and fries just ice cream, which in my opinion is the way it should be. Have been here a few times and have enjoyed it everyone was pleasant and enjoyed it. The last 2 times we went they had no chocolate ice cream ( both times around 3 pm) the first time we assumed they just ran out the second time (the next day) I asked if they had run out of product or just not going to make it any more the response from the charm school graduate behind the counter was "no we ain't out of it we just don't have it" I was a little confused so I asked is it a seasonal thing the response from the girl behind the counter who by the way was wearing an absolutely filthy uniform was " look I'll make chocolate when the boss man says to make it" so we left for the second time not purchasing anything (hey we like chocolate sorry). I was looking for the closest location and saw all the negative reviews, so I figured I'd help them out! Went at about 9:30 on a Friday night. One window was closed, two people were in line ordering at the other window. We had only stood in line for about 30 seconds when a worker opened the other window and took our order. Just ordered a small Oreo cheesecake blizzard. He had it ready in just a couple of minutes. There was TONS of cheesecake pieces inside. The area is a little sketchy at night and isn't lit very well, but the employee we interacted with was super nice and made the best Oreo cheesecake blizzard I've had in years, or maybe ever! read more

I have been going to this DQ since I moved to Wilmington and this has got to be the worst DQ experience I have ever had in my entire life. The staff is extremely rude and ghetto. I was served by a girl named bri and she has got to be the worst employee in any food service industry. For one she was extremely rude and arrogant. Second of all I don't know if it isn't proper training or what but the blizzard I ordered wasn't even blended properly in the bottom half of the cup. Also there is no seating whatsoever except in the back there are a few disgusting wooden tables, and if you go there after dark there isn't even a light for those putrid tables. This place was much better in past years. I didn't recognize any of the familiar and friendly employees that have been working there in the past. It must be a change in management in these last few months because this used to be my favorite place to go to now I will never go back. read more

Only giving it a 2 star because I love their ice cream. Otherwise? Their incredibly slow pace and RUDE staff are just not worth it. It's not just this one time, either. I always give multiple chances and everyone is always so mean and unwelcoming. I would much rather go to cookout to be treated better. My boyfriend loved DQ and Is incredibly respectful and understanding (we work in a restaurant) but even he made a comment about their attitudes.
