We…read morewere driving out of town after a fun educational visit to the state museum grist mill, saw this place was open, and we had to stop. And boy was it worth it. Cold waters, cold sodas, and perfect one scoop waffle cones. I had pumpkin ice cream and the wife enjoyed cookies & cream. Friendly service. Incredibly inexpensive. And the cookie jars are as advertised, floor to ceiling, with an entire back room filled too. If you're touristing around in Metamora, this unique place needs to be one of your stops.

Grannies Cookie Jar & Ice Cream Parlor is a Metamora, Indiana icon, though it may be weird to call…read moreanything in this historic Franklin County town an actual "icon." There's quite a bit you know about me if you've followed my reviews for any length of time. This likely includes my long friendship with fellow Yelp Elites Rick G. and Holly G. - in fact, I performed their wedding ceremony! The three of us have actually collaborated on quite a few projects over the years, either due to Rick's music and comedy or because of my long history of activism and charity work. Frequently, our collaborations combine Rick and Holly's creativity with my activist spirit. For a couple years, Rick and Holly owned a shop in Metamora called Mosaic Learn & Play - I, in turn, owned a small charity bookstore within the walls of Mosaic. While I never spent nearly as much time in Metamora as did Rick and Holly, I spent my fair share of time there and grew to appreciate the picturesque, friendly town. Rick and Holly's wedding was even in Metamora! As is true of most historic towns, accessibility can definitely be an issue in Metamora. Truthfully, I'd say there's more that's not accessible than there actually is accessible in the town. Grannies is most certainly not perfect, a step greeting you at the front door and a crowded shop making even the most experienced wheelchair user more than a little paranoid. It's possible, I've been to Grannies more than once, but it's definitely a shop where I take my time wheeling and I am super careful everywhere I turn. Grannies, first of all, is an official world record holder. Granny owns over 2600 cookie jars - and I believe they're all actually here in this shop. She's held the record since 2012, as I recall. Grannies is, of course, an ice cream shop. Granny even makes all of her waffle cones by hand. Each one has a Hershey kiss at the bottom. She puts a whole lot of love in her waffle cones. The ice cream is pretty incredible, too. She has quite a few flavors and they're at reasonable prices for pretty darn amazing servings. Grannies is open 7 days a week throughout the year. While I can't say I'd drive all the way to Metamora for her ice cream, if I am in the Metamora there's no way I'm leaving without stopping at Grannies. Metamora is a beautiful little canal town. It has definitely been impacted by the pandemic, but the people are also hanging in there. I'm not quite going to say that time stands still here, but it's sure not a place you go to speed up. Metamora is a surprisingly easy drive from Indy and the entire Franklin County area could easily be a relaxing, fairly isolated day trip with Brookville also nearby as the seat of the county. There are even a couple places you can stay in Metamora, though they aren't particularly strong with access and you'd probably want to go to Brookville if that's needed. If you get a chance, head south to Metamora and be sure to stop in at Grannies for some ice cream and definitely check out those cookie jars!

Whoever had the insight of placing an ice cream place in a park was brilliant! Parkside does serve soft serve which I usually avoid for the real stuff, but the soft serve that Parkside has a real ice cream taste that I have enjoyed each time. First time, I had the dipped cone in chocolate with chocolate ice cream. Later on, I had the Smores flurry with chocolate ice cream and graham cracker. I think there was a little bit of marshmellow. But the small was about $5 but this was not your Dairy Queen small. The small was not that small. I would hate to see what the medium and large looked like. There is a variety of items on the menu and they even serve burgers and hot dogs. It's really hard not to be pleased by ice cream especially after having a great time in the park beforehand.

I have never been here before, so it is my first check in and first visit. I ordered the Pineapple cone, which was very good. I didn't try any food or anything this day, but I am sure I will. Just want to make you aware. I will be back of course since I know I can fly in and get Ice Cream, which is one of the reasons I go flying, it is fun and I get to got to fun places.

They carry a slew of other dairy products such as cheese and butter. Flavors of ice cream vary as well as store hours based on the season. Staff is always super friendly, typically you'll just see Mrs. Rowlett making and serving ice cream while her brother is busy with the various cheeses and butter. Prices are sure to not break the bank and will certainly yield more than a few smiling faces indulging in such wonderful products. Craving more than a scoop or two? Well they've got half gallons ready to go home with you currently priced $12/each. My kids say Rowlett's is the best and I wholeheartedly agree!

I promise you, you've never tasted anything close to the coffee ice cream at Rowlett's Milkhouse Creamery. You'll thank me later. I took advantage of this beautiful fall day to drive to Campbellsvirg in Henry County and see this place for myself. Our office gets special treats on birthdays and I got to enjoy the coffee ice cream and I was in love. The texture was like silk on your tongue. The hint of coffee was just enough to fit through the sweetness to make it out of this world divine!!!!! So I'll shut my piehole about the coffee ice cream and talk about the other things Rowlett's has to offer. They have a large variety of cheeses, ice creams, ice creams and butter. I was looking forward to buying some butter for the banana bread I'm getting ready to make; however, they were sold out. Oh well, i'll have to make another trip there I guess. This business is locally owned by brother and sister Terry and Sharon Rowlett. I had the pleasure of meeting Sharon when I visited today and she was as nice as she could be. This is most definitely worth the drive and a great way to support local business. Y'all gotta make the trip. You won't regret it.

And I eat from this restaurant at least once or twice a week if not more it's kind of pricey but the food is worth it it's good. The delivery service is great they are always friendly and very nice. But I do have a problem with their portion. I always get to fish and chip basket and when I first ordered it they told me you get three pieces of fish and that was fine and then after a while I only started getting two pieces of fish so I called them and asked them why and they said it depends on the size of fish which I do not see that at all. Sometimes when I get three pieces to fish are very large pieces other times when I only get two pieces they're very small and this does not make sense they need to make a size for the price because it's not right to pay the same price for different amounts of fish each time you get something. So they really need to work on that because when I call and tell them about it they say well it depends on the fish on the size and it's like I'm telling you the fish were small and they always say well mention it the next time you over and I'm not going to do that I shouldn't have to well anyway the food is good but they need to get a grip on your menu and one is what with their pieces. Like I said no problem with the delivery the food is always good they just need to be more consistent with their portions I will give them a five if they would be more consistent

Their shakes are awesome - we had the cookies and cream (they ran out of cookie dough ice cream) and it was nice and thick but not too thick. Finally we tried a cup of banana pudding with cookie crumbles sprinkled in. That ice cream was amazing - exactly like banana pudding but in an ice cream! Wow! Despite how crowded they were, their staff was very friendly and moved the line quickly. Honestly, if given the choice between Fundae's or Baskin Robbin's I'd take Fundae's everyday!!

We split their better than anyone else's (even mine) breaded tenderloin sandwich, fried mushrooms (homemade) and later will polish off a piece of homemade carrot cake. If you are a tenderloin fan like we are, you gotta try it. Big enough for both of us with some leftover for later. Our takeout bag included salt, ketchup, and plastic ware. What I didn't expect is the bread and butter that they also included! I knew from reading the reviews that every table gets this bread service. I was very impressed that they included it in takeout. We will be back soon, and I hope to try other menu items. But that tenderloin is sooo good, it will definitely be a struggle to order anything else.

I chose to put mustard on mine and it was on the table along with ketchup. They have Pepsi products and I ordered a Dr. Pepper. My husband had the fries with his tenderloin. They were incredibly quick on getting the meal out to us. Everything was piping hot! Our waitress was good about checking on us and refilling drinks. Also they have bread service and we had fresh hot bread with soft butter prior to getting our meal. My tenderloin was meaty and pretty good, hubby thought it had too much breading. Coleslaw was ok. Onion rings were good. Someone came over to our table to ask if we would like one of their homemade desserts, I am assuming he was the manager. My friends took home a piece of carrot cake and they said it was good. The other offerings they had on this evening were peach cobbler, blackberry cobbler, and a couple different cheesecakes. Overall it was good and we decided we would go back again to try something different on the menu.
