One of the best Dairy Queens in the area. The place is always clean (including the restrooms). They get your ice cream order to you pretty quick. You can't go wrong with their Blizzards. They show you how thick it is by always turning cup upside down before they give you the Blizzard order. The Triple Chocolate Eutopia is a must have if you have a chocolate craving. The staff is always kind and greets you when you come in. If you are a regular, they remember who you are...they are always friendly. This is a very poorly run franchise. The two people who always seem to be working there do not speak very good English and get frustrated with customers when they don't understand what they're saying. I don't know if those people are the owners or not, I was told by another customer they are, but they have got to step it up at this location. First, the store is dated, dingy, and dirty every time I go there. My wife and kids stood in a long line while the pace was excruciatingly slow, and nobody was ordering anything but ice cream, but the problem is those owners do not know any of the items on the menu. Every item we ordered, the lady had to stare at the menu and read what belonged in the sundaes, etc. She kept having to look up and remind herself of what she was doing. The store clearly needs a training program, especially for the owners. The ice cream is what it's always been- not great, not bad. Frankly, McDonald's has better tasting soft-serve ice cream than DQ, but with more options at DQ, they should really be doing more to keep customers happy. read more

I think I cut someone in line. Totally by accident. Mostly because there's absolutely no indication of which cash register one should stand in front of to order. Technically I was "in line" at the only cash register in operation, but he was "in line" long before I was. Oops. Takeaway - put some friggin' signs up or something. I'm not psychic! It was warm in here. It wasn't all that hot of an evening. I'd guess maybe low-to-mid 70's? Gorgeous outside. Steamy in here. Why? And it was no more apparent than a glance at any of the employees - they were all covered in a sheen of sweat. Hm. Not only were the patrons and employees warm, so was my Blizzard (hellooooo, Girl Scout Thin Mint Blizzard!) -- all two bites I was able to have of it by the time we finally got them. Why only two bites? *radio crackle* BEEP! BEEP! *radio crackle* "Medic 23-1 respond for trouble breathing..." Fuuuuuuuuuugggggggggghhhhhh! So, two bites and one looooong drive across town, my already warm and drippy mess of a Blizzard was even more of a drippy mess, now all over the cup holder of the ambulance. Sadness. Fortunately, our engine showed up (just because - not that they were dispatched) to see if we needed anything. Yep! Throw our Blizzards in the fridge back at the station! Easily forty-five minutes later... we'd dealt with the situation and returned back to claim our freezer-fied Blizzards... only to discover that mine was -still- half liquefied. It took over 15 minutes to get through the line and get served because whomever owns this particular franchise is too cheap to hire more people who I assume were making minimum-wage. Service was a bit slow while we were there but we beat the line of people who came in not moments after we ordered. The staff was nice and polite though so that's always a big plus in my book. My experience here turned me off from Dairy Queens everywhere. The food was unappealing and terrible. When I asked the difference between a malt and a shake, they mentioned that they would use different powder to make the drink. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. We were overcharged for everything. We asked for the smallest size possible and was not given that. When trying to clarify, the employee/owner? argued with us in front of other patrons over petty semantics because we said "smallest size" and not mini. Which by the way, the word "mini" is printed so tiny on their menu. What a scam. Additionally, we were charged $6.79 for a small sundae of poor quality. Ridiculous. Customer service here is terrible and this location is so dirty and smells terrible, might also be because all their freezers were off and smelled like mold. He was also the only one working which says something about staffing. If they scam their customers, they probably scam their employees as well. Dairy Queen spends days advertising free ice cream cone day and when i arrived at this location in the late afternoon I was greeted with a makeshift sign indicating they had no more cones for free ice cream. I said I would take the ice cream in a cup and after the employee giggled they said that the promotion was only for cones. What a joke!! I am writing in regards to a complaint with the management at the Dairy Queen located at 44050 Ashburn Shopping Plz, Ste 183, Ashburn, VA 20147. I always come to this Dairy Queen as it is right down the street from my house. I have had two previous experiences with this location in the past and today was strike three. The first time I printed out a BOGO blizzard coupon and the male manager berated me and accused me of photocopying the coupon. Mind you, I received this coupon because it was my birthday. I told him I would show him my ID but he rudely refused and didn't even wish me a happy birthday. The second time I went the same male manager did not flip my Blizzard upside down and refused to give me a free one, even though that is the policy. During the same visit his wife questioned how I get so many coupons. I yet again had to defend myself and told her I get them in emails. Tonight I went in with another coupon. I ordered my two Blizzards and handed her my coupon. At that moment she began to chastise me and publicly humiliate me in front of other patrons. She scolded me for not presenting the coupon earlier (even though I didn't know I was supposed to. it was an honest mistake). She told me it was all my fault that the register now read $11.54 and that she couldn't reverse it. She begrudginly took my card and only charged me for one. I began to cry in the restaurant. I was mortified, humiliated and confused. I was a paying customer who simply wanted two blizzards with my coupon. I didn't do anything to deserve her treatment. I was having a rough day and wanted some ice cream. Because of this woman and her family I will never go into that Dairy Queen location ever again. I shouldn't feel scared to present a coupon or to even walk in the door. I left in tears and can honestly say I have never been treated with such disrespect in my 31 years of life. Slow and not very friendly. The employees are working hard. The owners, I assume that is who they were need to go to the school for customer service. We went over what else was missing and she confirmed those were the items ordered but, while waiting the "register woman" decided we did not order one of the items, that was until one of the "workers" handed over the item. 4 children and 4 adults. When I asked for itemized receipt the lady running the register felt the need to "explain" what was on the receipt. I have the utmost respect for Kevin L. and don't question he had a poor experience here before. I hadn't even read his review until I just got home from making a run over to DQ and intentionally sat down to write a review. I don't normally post reviews of chains that are just average / as expected (I probably should though so my grade distribution would look more like a bell-curve instead of being so skewed high toward the 4-star ranking). We don't live close by, so we haven't been over here to this DQ, but my wife was having a craving tonight and asked me to make the trip for her, and who was I to say no? (There were NO selfish motivations, cravings, or desires involved WHATSOEVER!) I went expecting a typical DQ experience (and we've been to MANY different DQ locations during multiple cross-country drives), and I came away honestly impressed with the quality of service here at the DQ in Ashburn Village. The lady who took my order had great attention to detail, memorizing each modification to the standard order and got the orders exactly right. When they delivered the blizzards, they did the traditional DQ method of holding the blizzard cup upside down and handing it to you - showing how thick it was. I haven't seen a DQ employee do that in a LONG time, and it's a nice touch. I asked for lids, and the girl who handed me my banana cream pie blizzard stuffed a regular drink cup lid on top, squishing whipped cream out the sides and making a mess. The lady who took the order saw this and immediately took action to correct it. She took off the drink cup lid, cleaned off the mess on the sides, put fresh whipped cream on top, then put one of the bigger lids on. An average DQ would have just let me leave with the mess. The blizzards were great and they got our orders exactly right. The service was professional and better than I expected. read more

I walked into this place because I had promised the kids ice cream today. With DQ being close, I figured, why not right? Well... we didn't get ice cream from this joint, I walked out because of the rude cashier. First of all, there is no way to tell where the supposed line is, I guess I am supposed to just know. I was one of three people standing at the counter. Considering the guy that "seemed to be in front of me" was picking up a cake, another guy was texting (looked like he's already ordered since he wasn't paying ANY attention to the cashier) and was on the far side of the counter... The rude nasty employee looks at me like I'm an alien being and rudely asks: "you wanting something?" I tell her, that yes, I wanted to order ice cream.. I mean really. I'm in line in a fast food joint, standing at the register... perhaps I might want to buy something, but what would I know? (no brainer) She asks me if I'm next... I tell her I guess, I don't know who has ordered and who hasn't. She looks me up and down and tells me that line there (motioning to the other side of the counter, behind the guy that is texting) you move there. What?! So I'm supposed to walk in, and go all the way to the back of the store and get in a line that was not there?! How about I stand here and you take my order when you are done with the guy standing there not paying any attention?! Or better yet, I'll just take my business elsewhere rather than get treated with some sort of decency rather than be subjected to some rude woman that should attend some remedial training or be fired. I see one of the reviews here are fake. Until very recently then only had one register. Please keep your reviews honest. The service is wonderful! They are quick, but quality never suffers and they are so nice! I called to say I was 10min away, but they weir closing in 2. The owners said don't worry about it that they would wait for me. The ice cream we had was delicious and they got our order correct. The cashier (who I believe is the owner) however, needed to enroll in some customer service trainings immediately! Our total was $12.03 and she said our total as "twelve hundred and three." We knew what she meant but just decided to joke around by saying, "oh wow we hope it's not that much!" She then rolls her eyes gives us a dirty look and says "yes it's this much for what you bought!" While pointing to our ice cream angrily. Seriously the worst customer service I have ever had. As soon as we walked in I was greeted by a short lady with an attitude. Ordered a Oreo Blizzard and was asked if I wanted extra Oreo's. I asked if there is a charge and all I received was "89 cents extra" and some more attitude. I passed on the up sale and ordered 2 more Oreo Blizzards for others in the family. Next was my order..... I had to ask, "Is there an extra charge for a couple extra peanuts on the Peanut Buster Parfait. You know the answer... "89 cents extra". So upset on the upsales I said never mind. Here is the kicker... Once my wife received her Blizzard, the old lady with attitude had the nerve to say extra ice cream for lady. Other observations -Dirty tables -Trash was full -Dirty containers for the spoons ( I couldn't tell you what the crumbs were, but I wouldn't recommend a spoon from the bin) -Help wanted sign on the door. They probably cant keep people working there with Little old lady attitude working there. Upon first encounter, this place is so weird and non-functioning, you wonder why the hell you made your husband drive your 30wks preggo, dying of heartburn butt here on a Monday night in January. And yeah... it's true that sometimes it's hard to understand the people taking your order, or even get their attention. But I have to say, they've never screwed up my order and they usually move pretty fast. They've never been truly rude. The food and treats at this location are always good. DQ is a great little place if you need a refreshing cold treat. Love love love the Blizzard Cakes . The service is excruciatingly painful-almost not worth the trip no matter how perfect those cakes are. It takes about 10 minutes minimum to order a basic ice cream. The older lady in there could care less about getting orders right. If you ask for a banana split with no pineapple-she will give you extra pineapples and no banana....who does that???? My strawberry milkshake turned into "do you want ketchup on your fence fries?". It's now more fun to take bets on how screwed up an order is!
