If it's a hot & sunny day, and I spot a Dairy Queen, I'm getting a soft serve cone! There aren't as many DQs in the PNW as on the east coast where I grew up, so I don't pass them up. For me, nothing says summer more than a vanilla soft serve with the signature loop on top. No chocolate or cherry dipped for me, just vanilla soft serve. I've stopped here a number of times while in the Williamette Valley to go wine tasting. Service at the drive through is always fast and friendly. I can't speak to the food or any item other than the cone. Not buying into these 1 star reviews from people who seemed to create a profile just to write one review. Go check it out for yourself.

We waited over 35 min for our food..ridiculous. Just for 2 burgers 1 fries and 1 salad. Just me and my bf ..2 people, we're not a large family of 5 ,so I don't understand why it took so long. Everyone else was getting there orders, even people that came after us with more people. Also the burger I order said it would be on a PUB BUN but got a regular sesame bun. SO annoying. One top of that she came out with only our burgers she's like here you go " and we're like where's the rest of our food? We ordered fries and salad and she looked confused. Like seriously do you not have tickets for your orders ?! Do you not look and make sure the whole Order is complete before serving!? So we waited longer on top of that just to get a tiny little portion of fries and our salad. Ya it's cheap but not worth the wait. And we ask for waters and we never got water, she told us to hold on ..serves everyone else but us! Handing ppl milkshakes and ice cream but can't get us a cup of water !!? That takes 2 seconds , how about you help the people that are there first ,eating their food. We literally had to go to the convenience store across the street because my bf was so thirsty eating a meal with nothing to drink. Burette with the braid was a horrible server. And I wish I could tip after because they don't deserve it. I was pissed and made me lose my appetite. Hire some adults please , just a bunch of teens that don't know what they're doing , can't prioritize their customers right . Helping everyone but us. Running around asking people if that's their order, is this your order?" Is this your order? " like get numbers on the tables ,if you're that confused. Can't even match up orders with the customers. We didn't even get a number" the kid at the cashier didn't give us one .. so they probably skipped us. That's why it took so long to make 2 burgers and some fries/salad... like come one . And our fries and salad was just sitting there when it was done and she sees it ..but decides to grab and serve other people's food. I should have just grabbed it myself if she's not going to serve us in a timely manner. You made us wait ,forget half our order..you should have served the rest in a hurry and apologized , but no apology's. Because we were almost done with our burgers by the time we got our fries . Such BS. And get a damn self water service station , because if you're that busy and you can't even give the customers water , we should be able to do it ourselves. That's so stupid You have yours customers wait on some water. And we never got it. So 45 min on half our order and no water. F you guys ..never going back, so many better places with better service , I rather pay more and get better food ,better portions and be served right.

Walking in at 9AM, they had plenty of prepicked pints on a table and also an entire field of strawberries available for U-Pick. Pricing is actually cheaper for the pre-picked pints, but I assume that's because U-Pick means you're eating while picking as well. Red Berry Barn grows three types of strawberries on their farm. Firstly, probably 30-40 rows of Hoods, then some Shuksans, and finally the ever popular (for farmers, given the day-neutral designation) Albion. It's actually quite easy telling the three apart. The Hoods are overgrown, barely kept organized into rows, with lighter color leaves hiding all of the strawberry red deliciousness hiding underneath. The Shuksans in the center, are the tallest of the plants, with striking dark green foliage. The Albions in the last rows look almost emaciated, with small leaves barely able to support the ample stock of strawberries growing from them. Red Berry Barn doesn't have any particular system for organized picking unlike some other U-Pick farms. Most the field was flush with berries, so we just wandered around wherever we wanted to pick the strawberries. We went here specifically to purchase and pick Hoods. The strawberries here aren't like those of other farms. For some reason, the Hoods are much larger, perhaps 3-4x the size of other Hoods, but still with the protruding cap. The outer shell is also quite a bit harder than the typical soft Hood. The taste isn't the same either, being still sweet and plump with good strawberry fragrance, but missing some of the perfumy quality an excellent Hood has from some of the non U-Pick farms. The skin is also much firmer - usually Hoods only last a day or two before going bad due to how delicate their skins are, but on Day 2, these strawberries were still firm. I have no idea if it's the terroir or the growing and fertilizer regimen fed to the strawberries or not. The Shuksans didn't seem to be ready at the time we visited. I tried a couple that looked ripe on the plants, but they were still mostly hard and tasted like sour water. The Albions, however, were among the best Albions I've had, at least the most ripe ones which consist of perhaps only 5% of the crop. They're super sweet and almost reach Hood levels of perfumy quality but with a different taste. Most Albions, however, basically taste like cold storage grocery store strawberries. Just to hammer it in more - the best of the everbearing and/or day neutral varieties like Albion can be great, but on average, they are worse than June-bearing varieties! Albion especially I think is built for shelf life thanks to the waxy coat on the exterior and the firm interior. We ended up buying a half flat of Hoods to save us some time, and picked up a $16 basket that probably fit around 3-4 pints of strawberries. Red Berry Farm derinitely does in a pinch to get some fresh strawberries. I don't think their Hoods are as good as from other farms, but they're still miles better than any grocery store strawberry.
