Weldon's Ice Cream Factory - Porch seating

Pros: The were open on a chilly Easter Sunday…read moreTastes using regular spoon instead of plastic - the Earth thanks you! Super creamy ice creams with lots of flavor options Friendly service Cons: 6 dollars a scoop The caramel flavor didn't taste anything like caramel. If I closed my eyes I would have guessed it was vanilla. I'll try another flavor the next time. Pro tip: If you are visiting Buckeye Lake, it's worth a visit for the novelty.

I'm not a big ice cream person, but I do love sweets, especially a sweets shop with history. I ordered a banana split. Though, it was difficult to decide what to order! This place has a peaceful vibe, but the signage is a little chaotic -- it's like walking up to a Dr. Bronner's bottle. I had to stand there for a bit and read everything while the poor girl behind the counter waited for me to get my bearings. (Luckily I was the only one in the shop at the time.) There are different colored signs everywhere, listing daily specials, new items, and things you can buy that aren't ice cream, like bags of ice and local honey. The banana split was delicious: A perfectly ripe banana split between two scoops of ice cream -- I chose vanilla and chocolate. It's topped with whipped cream, crushed nuts, and a cherry on top. It's one of those desserts where you lose track of time when you eat it, or at least I did. All of my concentration went toward eating that magnificent ice cream concoction as quickly as possible. I decided to shovel it into my face on the big porch, which overlooks the Buckeye Lake canal. There is also seating indoors, too. Weldon's is a must-visit if you're in the Buckeye Lake area!

Has anyone ever had a poor experience at any of the Whit's locations? We absolutely love Whit's and…read morehave never had a poor experience. While this location may have run out of vanilla ice cream during one of our visits, everyone (servers/customers) remained professional and went on with ordering something else that was as equally satisfying. My daughter is a huge fan of the Happy Face Sundae. The servers are always great with taking their time to perfect the happy face. My favorite is the Bourbon Praline Pecan which is not always available, but is super amazing! I honestly don't think you could go wrong with any of their offerings. Whit's will continue to be on our "weekly menu" as it's something we have come to enjoy as a family - especially this location (as it's only a few miles away)! Thank you!

I visited the Canal location and was promptly greeted by the staff. I opted for a kids size scoop of chocolate, but there were many other options available. Others in my party had a banana split which looked delightful! Before I left, Frozen custard sandwiches caught my eye in the freezer. I will plan another trip to test one of those out! They have a small patio area where you can enjoy your frozen treat outside, or eat it from your car. Carry out pints are also available for you to take home. Try Whit's out, you won't be disappointed.

Apparently the inside hasn't changed much in over 50 years, per my husband's aunt. We only came here for ice cream so I can't speak much for the rest of the food and offerings. The ice cream portions are LARGE! I got one scoop, split between 2 different flavors and I barely finished it. Their ice cream selection has a lot of options and definitely be aware it will give you a sugar rush! They offer classic flavors and have rotating seasonal flavors. When we were there, coffee ice cream, my favorite, was on their rotating seasonal flavors. They also had some holiday seasonal flavors, like egg nog and pumpkin pie, since we were visiting around Thanksgiving time. I'd recommend checking their website if you want to know which seasonal flavors are in rotation. The storefront was decorated for Christmas and had a fun display of the town and inside reminds me of Happy Days. Service was relatively quick, and luckily only a few folks inside when we were there; not sure how it is when it's packed. If you like classic diner style vibes and ice cream, I'd recommend you try this place out!
