    The shack burger
    Jacob S.

Stopped in on a Sunday after being on the lake. Attached to the brewery, its a nice spot to hang out. I will say that seating was very limited inside, but a small patio outside made up for it. Go to the counter and order, they will give you a buzz when your food is ready. We found out that there is a different menu on Sundays so the items we wanted were not available. We tried the pretzel bites, they were good, pretty standard really. I have the Shack Burger and Fries. both were great. The burger was a smash variety, great toppings and a special sauce really complemented this burger well. The fries were hand cut and had good flavor, I personally would have liked them a bit crisper, but that's a not the style they were presenting. overall, I'd go back and try their regular menu.

Chef Shack is located inside Buckeye Lake Brewery. Walk up to the counter and order, you'll be given a buzzer for when your order is ready to pick up. I ordered chicken wings (hot) they were deep-fried and un-breaded. The sauce lacked flavor. Ordered the NY Style Hotdog. The hotdog was perfect and all-beef. Mustard and Kurt were nothing special, poppyseed bun was ok. Pretzel bites! Winning. Everything you want from a pretzel bit.

Shack Dog and "Fried Pickles"-- pickle spears and mustard wrapped in salami and a wonton then deep fried!

This review has been a long time in the making. When Chef Shack opened, I was thrilled to have a new food spot in the Buckeye Lake area-- there really isn't enough out here. As a regular at the Buckeye Lake Brewery, which Check Shack is attached to, it seemed like a clutch new option. Now I'll tell you that this review is going to get worse before it gets better. The first time we ate it, my dining partner got food poisoning from the fish n chips. The next time we dared to venture, about a year later, another dining partner got sick from: you guessed it, the fish n chips. After that, I didn't go to Chef Shack again until the beginning of this year out of fear and principle (yes, the options are so sparse that eventually I thought "3rd times a charm, right?"). Well, the 3rd time was a charm. and so was the 4th and 5th. The fries are killer, burgers are solid, and my personal favorite is the fried pickle. This is unlike any other fried pickle you have had-- it's a pickle spear smeared with cream cheese, drizzled in mustard, and wrapped in salami, and then all of that is stuffed inside of a wonton and deep fried-- so it looks like a XL egg roll, but tastes like fried Italian sandwich heaven. I also love their coney dogs! As embarrassing as it is to admit that I love any hotdog, as an Ohio native and Cinci-born Skyline chili aficionado, I'm shouting it to the Yelp hills for all my fellow coney-lovers. To be honest, if it weren't for the first 2 awful experiences, it would be a 5 star review. Just skip the fish n chips.

The Cajun Jerk Dry Rub wing were pretty good.

I came to this place with the family on the way to see the lights on the raceway. I didn't know what to expect because this spot has way below the number of reviews that I typically will give a restaurant a chance (usually, I have to see 150+ reviews no less). Before walking into the establishment, you are greeted with the sign on the door telling you to wear your mask before entering. Once inside, you notice the cleanliness of the restaurant. The counter worker was very polite and knowledgeable about the menu. She helped me decide what I was going to have for my meal. I got the shack burger, fries, the nachos, and the wings. The burger was good. The thing that I enjoyed about it was that you could taste the freshness; it could have used a tad bit more seasoning. Otherwise, the burger was cooked to perfection, and the presentation was excellent. The fries, who can go wrong with fresh-cut fries? They are the best. We rather enjoyed these and cleaned the plate of them. The nachos with chicken were okay. I love the visual of it. Once again, everything was visibly fresh and colorful. My only request would be to season the chicken (that's the protein I choose, you have options) a little bit more. Now time for the wings. These things were freaking fantastic (if you haven't noticed, this is my catchphrase). I got the jerk flavored wings, and I must say that it was not overwhelming. The heat level of the jerk seasoning is relatively low, but all the jerk taste is there, and it's seasoned just perfectly. I love some great wings, and yes, I would definitely drive 28 mins away from Gahanna just to grab some from here.

Chef Shack shares a wall and some open seating with Buckeye Lake Brewery. However, technically they have their own space and do in fact have their own kitchen on their side. Tried their homemade crab cakes with a side salad. Their salads are pretty big. Everything is served in the silver foil circle containers. The salad filled that entire area. Fresh tomatoes and cheese topped it. I was impressed with the crab cakes. Pretty meaty and good flavor. The seasoning(s) used complemented well. These are made fresh the morning of, and you could tell - no freezer taste. I got one of their chocolate turtle brownies to take home for dessert (apparently also made in-house). It was pretty sweet, I only ate a few bites. I'll just stick with a protein and veggies for now. Service was fast and friendly. I'm not around Buckeye Lake very often, but I'll keep Chef Shack in mind for the foreseeable future.

I ordered fish tacos but the tortillas were cold. My son ate a double shake burger and he said it tasted like a whopper. My husband ordered fish and chips and enjoyed it.

Based on several other reviews, I was a bit worried at first about what was to be expected with speed and quality of service. Our server, a young lady, was excellent, and helpful with making our choices. Her manager or chef seemed like a man possessed running around the floor to assist his staff at the time and did stop by once to check in with us. As far as menu changes or decor from a recent refresh, I have no basis of comparison so couldn't care less about that. We were starving so we opted for recommendations from our server spanning all over the menu. We had everything from cheese curds and bang bang shrimp to the Reuben and patty melt, to a filet mignon with loaded baked potato as a side. In retrospect, kicking ourselves now since nobody in our party got any seafood outside of the shrimp appetizer. Doubtful we will be back east of Columbus for a while so I have no idea when we'd realistically get to try the Salmon BLT or seafood pasta. Unfortunately nobody snagged photos of the food since we were famished and it wasn't a priority. I don't eat sweets, but was told the Key Lime Pie and Banana Fosters were well worth saving room for. If you're like me, I'd opt for the OG Dockside Old Fashioned instead.

We were seated behind a barrier, and after dropping off our entrees, our server disappeared. My husband realized that he hadn't been served any condiments with his fish & chips -- no tartar sauce, lemon, vinegar or ketchup, nor slaw. He waited a few minutes to dig in, figuring someone would pop around the corner and we'd catch their eye, or our own server would return to check on us. Nope. Meanwhile, hubby had tasted a few fries, which were barely warm and a bit flabby. He started to eat his fish, sans tartar, and said it was ok, but not super hot. Fish and chips out to come out of the fryer so fresh and hot that you need to wait a few minutes to eat it so you don't burn your mouth -- but not here. This food had been sitting around a while. A few other servers had checked on tables nearish to ours, but didn't give us so much as a glance, and didn't hear our loud "Excuse me!"s. We weren't thrilled at the prospect of having to get up and go to the bar or hostess station to get help. But because both our meals had become unenjoyable thanks to waiting over ten minutes for someone to happen by, I decided I'd go seek assistance. But just then, our server happened by. We flagged her down and asked for all the things that were missing. She glanced at my husband's still pretty full plate and her eyes popped a bit, clearly realizing that the sitch was not pleasing to us. She brought the missing condiments, but damage done at that point. It had been a little exhausting waiting around and keeping our eyes peeled for a passing server. The restaurant should make it more of a point to send servers through that lower seating area on the regular. It was a pretty mediocre dinner.

The Beach House Pub is in the former Beachcomber in Fairfield Beach, on the south side of the lake. But it's new ownership, a new menu, and they've brought new life into this place. There were 5 of us. We had pizza, wings, 2 steak dinners, a burger, drinks, etc. Everything was really good. The steaks were an absolute bargain. The ribeye was delicious. The filet was delicious. The $3 crab cake was really good. Drinks were strong and very well executed. Sarah, the new owner, was a manager at the Copper Penny for many years. She has absolutely, positively "upped her game" here - the Beach House is really good. REALLY good... We're thrilled, because we have a house nearby. Service was great. The live band was good. We got seated right away, and served right away. And it wasn't a madhouse, like some of the other places on the lake can be on a weekend during boating season. I'm sure it will get busier as people realize what a gem this has become. If you find yourself on the south side of Buckeye Lake any time soon, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Beach House Pub.
