K&J's have a very courteous and friendly young crew working for them. (Unfortunately, not common in this area; thus, bonus!) The shoppe is also clean, bright, and inviting. Kiddos will enjoy seeing Annabelle, the store's mascot, in addition to use of the color-changing spoons. K&J's have a plethora of homemade hand-dipped flavors, in addition to shakes and soft serve offerings. Flavors are frequently changed up with new additions. Small spoon samples are happily provided as are (reasonably priced!) doggy cups (although pups need to enjoy theirs outdoors). Speaking of outdoors, several bright picnic tables have recently been installed for all. There is also a drive-thru for those in need of their ice cream fix, yet perhaps in their jammies.

There was a large assortment of flavors of hand dipped ice cream as well as soft serve. The ice creams aren't made in house but they have them shipped in from Wisconsin and they are very creamy and tasty. The prices were extremely reasonable and the portions were generous. The customer service was top notch. If you are in the area give this ice cream a try and you'll be happy you did. Definitely will be returning soon and telling friends and family to get out, support local and enjoy some indulgent treats.

I ordered a large pepperoni pizza for my sons Birthday last Saturday. I didn't think much of it until a few minutes later on the drive home I decided to sneak a small piece. When I opened the lid I couldn't believe what I saw. The pizza looked like it had been sitting under heat lamps all day and was dried up and burned. I'm not horribly picky but I wouldn't have served this to my dog. I pulled over and immediately called them. The same young man who rang up my pizza answered the phone. I politely told him that the pizza was burned and dried up. I told him I was surprised because I saw him personally look it over before handing it to me through the window. The phone went quiet. No apology and no offer to make it right. He mumbled that he would go talk to the person running the oven. He acted annoyed or put out. When he got back on he said they would remake my pizza. When I returned to Picnic's to get my new pizza, I showed them the burned mummified pizza they had served me. It was a young lady at the window and the same guy from earlier behind her grabbing my new pizza. I asked her if they thought that burned up pizza was acceptable to serve to customers and she apologized and looked embarrassed when she saw the it. The new remake pizza was only ok. Nothing special at all. I've had better frozen pizza. I remember when Picnic's used to have great pizza a couple years ago but something has definitely changed. I believe they sold the company to someone else. It seems to be run by young people. They looked like high school kids. They did not refund my money for the pizza but did give me a coupon for $5 off my next order. I don't believe there will ever be a next order.

This review is long overdue…read more.. No trip to my hometown is complete without a visit to get a Spanish dog. The "place" has long since changed and I must admit I miss the old place down the road that no longer exists and hasn't for years...lots of memories there. Not to mention my parents and grandparents frequented that old Root Beer Stand. I do like the idea that when this "new" place was built years ago they added inside dining. Even the folks who grumbled and/or cried years ago when the old place was torn down liked the idea of indoor dining! Besides, depending on the mood, it is nice to eat inside, and the old place used to close down in the cold months. I've watched the prices go up over the years, but I keep coming. The taste has changed over the years as well, but I still keep coming. Well, there was a year in there when I stopped because of the recipe changing too much and that period when the hotdogs themselves were different. I do miss the old recipe, and they are using it, but I think the people who make it have a lot to do with it and employees come and go, so that special something is lost. The root beer is always super cold and delicious and mushrooms are normally pretty good. They have daily specials and I can honestly say that I've had everything on the menu, but the Spanish dog is the "go-to" item in my opinion. They still come to your car to take your order and bring your food to you if you pull up under the overhang. But it's not like the old days when you automatically got a tray and had to start up your car for them to come get your tray (trash, mugs, etc.)...I miss that. Now you take care of the trash, etc. and you don't get glass mugs unless you sit inside. Root beer tastes better in glass mugs...jus' sayin'. Although it's not as unique as it used to be, it's still a unique place. Be advised, when you stay in your car to order, they will take your card to run it inside. Be aware of this in advance, but it's safe. Aside from the area to place your order from your car and eat, there is plenty of other parking if you wish to eat inside. Just be sure to not park in the area where folks wish to pull up and eat (the overhang area)...make sense? And if you eat inside, take time to enjoy the décor. The black & white checkered floor sets the stage for the 1950s motif complete with a jukebox and cool bar perfect for enjoying a root beer float. There are restrooms as well. The staff is staff. Prices are a tad high, but it's worth it. Moreover, they stay open year-round. No matter how you slice it...a bite of a Spanish dog brings back memories for me...my childhood, my wild teenage days, friends, fond memories of family, and just some really good thoughts and vibes. And that is what keeps me coming back... Please note: The B-K in Piqua and the one in Troy are no longer affiliated from what I understand. So, please do not confuse this one with the one in Piqua. The food tastes the same, but different (for lack of a better term), and nearly the same menus. Try both and decide which one you like more! But remember, the one in Piqua is open seasonally.

We really liked this place in downtown Sidney. It was different. That usually means choosing a fast food chain location. These chains serve their purpose but aren't much fun. This place popped up on Yelp and turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. The location is a short drive off the highway into downtown Sidney, taking about 4 or 5 minutes to get there from Exit 92. It was located in a retro building on the main intersection in town cross corner from the County Courthouse. Approaching from the West on Court St., it looked a little divey. It looks more pleasantly vintage from the Ohio St. side, which is actually its storefront. Our visit to this place prompted me to do some quick research. The Spot has been in business for over 100 years, opening in 1907. A fire destroyed the original building in 1940 and according to the local paper, "the current Art Moderne-style building was completed in 1941 and still features its original white porcelain tile, mid-century neon sign and iconic diner layout." It truly has a retro feel inside, going more or less for a 1950s aura where you would not be surprised to see Richie Cunningham sitting at a booth drinking a malt. Although the jukebox is digital, the upgrades enacted by the new owners who took over last year generally seem to be spot on. While it looks retro, the infrastructure is in nice shape with a clean, tidy appearance. It's a pleasant place for a meal. The format is walk-up-and-order. The girl working the counter was polite and efficient. To be fair in context, however, we walked in around 6:45 PM on a Wednesday night an hour-and-a-quarter before closing. It was not at all busy when we entered with one party there finishing their meal and only two others who walked in before we left. Hence, efficiency would be expected with no other customers to be served, but I'll still note the good work. The food was up quickly without any issues. We sat in 1950s comfort to enjoy our meal. I had the Turkey Club. It was quite good. I ordered mine with Onion Rings as my wife wanted to split these with me. She had the Swiss Lad sandwich, which she said was also very tasty. We split an Iced Tea which was likewise quite good. With everything, we spent $25.48 for dinner. At less than $13 per person, I was happy with that value. We'll certainly look for this place again when we are passing through Sidney.

You can see it from the intersection with the McDonald's, and if you know West Milton that's an easy landmark to find. It's part of the main strip. We like ducky's ice cream in Troy and we also like grandpa Joe's. Its early March right now and duckies is closed for the season. Now I have four daughters, but in particular my fun six year old, who just loves ice cream. I wanted to do something special for them. My oldest says this: The ice cream is great. The customer service is something you don't find it any of the chain stores. You can tell this is a mom and pop and that they care about treating the customers well. She got the flavor called "kitty kitty bang bang", and was pretty good. It might not be a go to favorite, but it was something new, and it was pretty good. It's an original, you couldn't get in anywhere else. Next one says this: I got this flavor called "this just got serious" and it's really good. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is there for the first time or likes caramel, chocolate, or vanilla. Third one got Oreo blast, Oreo madness. She's six and doesn't exactly remember the name of the flavor but it has a lot to do with Oreo cookies. She got it in a homemade waffle cone. She says "I love Lala Sugar land". My four-year-old says: it's so good I wuv (love) it. She got the birthday cake in a regular cone. It's a small mom and pop shop. It's a little bit duckies in a little bit grandpa Joe's. It's over in West Milton, right next to that amazing hill for sledding. The kid at the register was engaged and attentive. She is learning the ropes but she knows a little bit about what they have and what taste good. There's an old rule that says never trust a skinny cook or at least never trust somebody who hasn't tasted what they're selling. They know what they're selling and it is delicious. They have some very nice seating inside, higher stools, and then cute little kids tables. They also have several picnic tables out front in the grass so on a sunny weekend day that would be the place to visit. Good place to stop. Park around back.
