I usually buy free range eggs in an effort to reduce my participation in the horrors of animal…read morefarming. I recently bought a dozen "free range" brown eggs produced by Farmers Finest. I was going to prepare a hard boiled egg and remembered seeing somewhere that in order to have the shell peel off easily it is a good idea to add vinegar to the water. Imagine my surprise when the brown color came off the egg! So they are not brown eggs, they are tinted white eggs!! This solves the mystery of brown eggs having pale yellow yolks like white eggs. My question is, if they lie about the color of the eggs, what else are they lying about? Are these eggs really free range? Or, have they figured out a way to sell regular small eggs as large brown free range eggs at double the price? Dr. S. de Gasparis

If there were a story of Goldilocks and the three hot sauces, I'd be the star, because that's exactly what I was doing at the Farmers Market last weekend. We popped by this one booth, it's super tiny (like the Teeny Little Super Guy of farmers market booths http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8j565lLvJU), but full of bottles of all kinds of hot sauces. The cute old man working the booth stopped unpacking his boxes to let me sample a few different kinds. He'd pull out a little piece of cracker, place it in my hand with his cracker tongs and then carefully pour a wee bit of hot sauce on top of it for me to try. How patient can this guy be? Not sure, but I'm pretty sure if I had wanted to sampled all of the flavours he had out, he would've humoured me. As it was, after the third try, I was sold on the mango hot sauce. I've been dipping my finger in it every day since trying to think up what meal it's going to go with. Thanks Great Canadian Hot Sauce guy! April Underdog Challenge: 11/30
