I found this program through my county Risk Management department when inquiring about copays for…read morean elective surgery. I was in dire need of a knee surgery after an old R knee injury with arthritis and a demolished meniscus decades after a bad moto accident. Even though I was prepared to postpone a big vacation and new bike/ moto toys for a year or so, my employer incentivizes the employees to utilize the Free Market surgeon groups with 100% pay to the employer. That's correct; the employee is on the hook for nothing more than the fuel for a follow-up appointment. At the time, the program was just getting off the ground in the Houston area, so I had to go to the Austin/ Round Rock area for my consult and surgery. The surgeon, Dr Earl Kilbride, was well respected and thoroughly vetted by the program. The surgery went off without an issue, and shortly after that, I suffered an ACL sprain on my other leg that required attention. I did not hesitate to return to Texas Free Market and Dr Kilbride to get sorted out with another surgery. Four plus year have passed since my R knee with meniscus repair/ microfracture/ patella release, and next month will be four years for my L knee cleanout/ patella release from an ACL sprain. My QUALITY of life was vastly improved. Just having the ability to go up and down stairs in my home without grinding knee pain was enough, but once I was given the full release to resume mt-biking, I was floored how much life I was given back! I surely would have paid out of pocket were it not for my employer's arrangement with the program, but instead, my wife and I were able to take a trip to Peru that would have otherwise been postponed. What better way to celebrate new knees than a biking/ hiking trip to the Andes? The folks at Texas Free Market/ Texas Medical Management are doing amazing things with employers to offer a broad variety of elective surgical services to their employees at ZERO cost. I was one of the first handful of our employees to use this service, but every month, I meet another employee who took advantage of this amazing opportunity to improve their QUALITY of life. They are changing the shape of healthcare at the ground level, and more and more programs should follow suit. Thanks to Amy, Javier, and their staff at Texas Medical Management!

I had a biopsy done at Planned Parenthood and they found complex hyperplasia due to being on…read moreunopposed estrogen and recommended an immediate hysterectomy. I contacted Texas Freemarket Surgery for a hysterectomy in June of last year. After jumping through hoops, getting a quote for the surgery (which was in line with the Surgery Center of Oklahoma's price) and continuously prompting them for updates, I received a call from an OB/GYN's office to schedule an appointment. After speaking to me, she said she needed to call Texas Freemarket Surgery and would get back to me. I never heard back from her. I finally got word from Texas Freemarket Surgery stating that Dr. Neiman was not willing to do the surgery and they'd referred my case to Dr. Tassone. After a LOT of back and forth emails, Byron at Texas Freemarket Surgery told me that he'd been communicating directly with Dr. Tassone regarding my case and that he didn't advise surgery, so they couldn't help me. Meanwhile my regular doctor was pressing me to get the surgery done as soon as possible due to risk of cancer. So, I contacted Dr. Tassone on my own and made an appointment to find out why he didn't agree to do the surgery and what he suggested. I brought my records (which were sent to me from Texas Freemarket Surgery because I didn't have my own copy). Dr. Tassone looked at my records and said he'd never received the biopsy results (even though Byron at Texas Freemarket Surgery stated that Dr. Tassone had received and reviewed them). Dr. Tassone said "Oh, now I see why you wanted surgery." He seemed to think I wanted a hysterectomy without a medical reason. It took Dr. Tassone two minutes to look at my information and tell me that I should have a D&C instead because of adhesions due to previous surgery. He also said he'd contact Texas Freemarket Surgery about it and that they'd contact me. I never heard from them. After all the headache dealing with Texas Freemarket Surgery, I started pricing D&C's everywhere that I could instead of dealing with them again. I was struggling to find anyone in the Austin area that could give me a price and finally decided to contact Texas Freemarket Surgery again, this time asking for a price for a D&C. They already had my records. Someone else called me from their office to assure me he'd look into it personally because of all the back and forth I went through trying to get the hysterectomy scheduled. He said he was contacting Dr. Neiman and would get back to me in the next day or two. Of course, again, I didn't hear back from him, but the woman from the OB/GYN office called me to schedule an appointment and we remembered each other from last June. She told me that when she had called me last time, she had to call Texas Freemarket Surgery first, because Dr. Neiman wanted an ultrasound and she needed them to approve it, and then she planned to call me back. She stated that she never heard back from anyone at Texas Freemarket Surgery and had assumed I'd changed my mind. I had been told by Texas Freemarket Surgery that Dr. Neiman had refused to do the surgery which was absolutely not true. I can tell you I was surprised and angry because I'd been struggling to find a way to get this taken care of for more than 6 months now, and my pain and bleeding was continuing to get worse and I was having anxiety attacks because of it. I explained that I'd be happy to come in for an appointment, but Texas Freemarket Surgery still hadn't given me a quote. She assured me that I would not be charged for the appointment. When I went in, the same woman that I'd been speaking with was at the desk. I still had not received a quote and I wanted to make sure that I wouldn't be charged. She stated that I would not be charged for the exam day and she made a note in my record stating that I still had not received a quote. Dr. Neiman agreed that a D&C was the best option (which I knew because I'd seen 3 other ob/gyn doctors at this point). She wanted an ultrasound before the procedure. I verified with the front desk that I would not be charged for the ultrasound. After receiving the results, I had scheduled surgery and again explained that I still did not have a quote. Finally, I think it was two days before my surgery was scheduled, I received a call with a quote of $3250 for a D&C. I was quite shocked since since it was more than double the price at the Oklahoma Surgery Center for a 15 minute operation. I cancelled the surgery and drove to Oklahoma where I had it done for $1600 instead. Now I'm being sent to collections by the OB/GYN's office because Texas Freemarket didn't pay them. I didn't ever need to go into the OB/GYNs office. If Texas Freemarket Surgery had given me the quote up front as they were supposed to this would have all been avoided They caused me months of completely unnecessary stress and now will affect my credit rating for the foreseeable future.

I finally had a good night sleep! The team that worked around the clock to take care of my grandmother was so warm, lovable and competent. I spent many hours there with them. They took care of everything in her home from laundry, cleaning, bathing to just hanging out and listening to her stories.
