It was way too busy for a beginner. The ski schools had taken over the hill and were sprawled out across the middle. I was scared I was going to run someone over as there was very little space to get through. Prices are reasonable and there's lots of parking. Decent food at the snack bar. NO LOCKERS. Staff are all very helpful.

Dagmar is located in Uxbridge, it is your beginner hill experience. I tried the mzgic carpet, the halfway up lift with wooden backing, and the lift that takes you to the top. The magic carpet is basic and safe for kids, I do find the grading on the top a bit tough just because it's really tough for the youngsters to get out. The wooden backing lift is halfway up. I find the left seat pretty tough to board on as the path converges a bit when you get on. When you get to the top for the green rated lift, it's very basic and easy. The lift that takes you to the top to Lover lane is a nice valley shaped hill down so it can be challenging for newbies. It can be unsafe when overcrowded but its quite a nice transitional level hill. It was -2C with full sun so conditions were great in the afternoon and transitioned to sticky. This is a great beginner hill and even intermediate. The chairlift are a bit run down and the price is not comparable to say Milton's Glen Eden. Just for the state of the chair lifts I would have hoped for pricing to be 10$ lower. The pandemic screening is okay, just a check in on phone. But there is no enforcement for social distancing on the interior sections where you get tickets, take out food and washroom. There is no crowd control on the lifts and frankly it was really crowded! Just youths doing mask control making sure some sort of face covering was worn at all time (so if you were hoping to not wear face covering at some points you'll find enforcement at the bottom of the hill). I will also warn tall people. The halfway up chair lift the clearance is low. So tall people did have trouble going up and jus tthe clearance getting off you can see what happened to a pole.

I was looking for skiing a little bit closer to home and decided to go to Dagmar. It has been many years since I've been there but it was a frequent destination for school skip trips back in the day. They have daily lift tickets available which are generally good for a 4 hour period of time either during the day or at night. It's highly recommended to make reservations online ahead of time at least a week early. We had tried to get tickets the week before but they sold out a couple days before the weekend we wanted to go skiing. You don't actually have to pay upfront when you place your online order. You do that once you get to the hill to pick up your tickets. While we were waiting to get into the part of the chalet where you get tickets, we overheard an attendant turning away guests that were hoping for a walk-up same day reservation, so you've been warned! Book ahead and book early! The total cost of the ticket came out to $64 (no rentals) when all was said and done. The lift tickets are still the ones that you hang on your jacket. There are signs that a lift ticket is needed to even be on the snow but we did see parents waiting near the chalets for their kids. Dagmar isn't that big. There is a bunny hill with magic carpet and 3 lifts. One of the lifts is dedicated for the terrain park. Note that if you find yourself accidentally on the terrain park lift, you can ski your way over to non-terrain park areas so you aren't trapped. If you're looking to do some tricks in the park, you will need a helmet and your own gear. No rentals are permitted in this area. They are a little more serious with wearing masks at all times as they do not require proof of vaccination onto the ski resort. There were several times a lift attendant walked up and down the lines asking guests to pull their masks up. Also, make sure that your lift ticket is visible at all times. They are checking that the time that you're skiing does match the time on your ticket. Because it's Covid right now, the restaurant area of the chalet is closed. You can walk through it to get to the cafe/shop but you aren't allowed to sit there. The cafeteria is still serving food. You can enjoy your meal outside where there are lots of picnic tables. The shop actually had some pretty good deals. They had helmets that were cheaper than what we saw at Sport Chek. They also had some hats and gloves if you forgot yours at home that were quite affordable. Lastly, if you had a great time at Dagmar, there was lots of Dagmar branded gear that you could pick up - t-shirts, mugs, tumblers, even shot glasses! We managed to ski for around 3.5 hours here. The lift lines were a little bit long so that did eat up a bunch of time. Still, I really enjoyed my visit to Dagmar! Will probably be back when I'm trying to avoid going up North for skiing.

I've been with the club for 3 seasons now and I'm totally enjoying being a member!…read more for a $150 membership fee (sign up before november to get early bird membership price) you get as many lessons as you can fit in your schedule and there are so many different lessons/programs/activities that you won't be disappointed. There are programs for racers, for moguls enthusiasts, for skiers and snowboarders, preparation for your IT course and so many more... some programs last for few weeks in a row, some take a video of you skiing/snowboarding and give you a feedback for improving your technique. There is something for everyone! The instructors are amazing! I started to ski with them and they turned me into advanced skier in 1.5 seasons! They are always there to help/advice/cheer and did I mention that they are just AMAZING?=) With HPSC members get discounts on lift tickets and bus rides to the resorts(pick ups from all over the city). There are trips on the weekends and midweek trips. There are many trips to private resorts too! Ah and the big thing is the long trips and weekend trips. Weekend trips go to close by locations like quebec or close by US. Long trips go all the way to europe or whistler etc. Haven't been to many of them but the agenda is usually filled with all types of apres ski activities so no time to be bored either! This is a super friendly ski club and I highly recommend joining it to get your ski/snowboard fix every winter (that is actually very short after you fall in love with winter sports!=))

I originally joined this club to meet new people and have fun doing something I enjoy at the same time. I liked the fact that lessons were included in the membership fee and figured I would be able to work on my technique as well. What I didn't expect was how much improvement I would see in such a short time. The instructors are great and give excellent tips and tricks for achieving the optimal skiers stance and balance. The lessons last for about 2 hours in the morning then you have the rest of the day to practice what you've learned. The club is very well organized and professional, which I appreciate, esp on the long overnight trips. I have noticed that more young people are joining the club this year which is amazing. A lot of people have been with the club for years and they can be a wealth of knowledge but it's nice to see new faces. As for making friends I have found this to be a great place. The trick is to chat up the people in your lessons group - they ski at the same level as you so you can ski the rest of the day with them and hang out together off the slopes. So far it's been a win-win. Oh and my favourite part is the downhill race they put on every Saturday at MSLM (until February). You get to try your skills on the race course and possibly win a medal, which is based on your experience level. AND... Just for entering the race you get your name put into the door prize draw for cool gear like goggles, boot bags and water bottles. So far I've won a HPSC collapsible water bottle!

As a result of the collision, the skier entered the brush area adjacent to the trail. My son, who was present at the time, and I immediately removed our skis and assisted the skier out of the brush. Several individuals riding the lift overhead called down to ask whether assistance was required. As a trained First Responder with Advanced First Aid and CPR certification, I advised them that there were no injuries and that assistance was not necessary. Despite this, additional comments continued to be shouted from the lift, at which point I reiterated that everything was under control. Shortly thereafter, members of the Brimacombe Ski School arrived and inquired about the situation. I again confirmed that I was a trained First Responder and that there were no injuries. I was advised that Ski Patrol had been contacted and was en route. I stated clearly that this was unnecessary, as the skier had already been assisted and had resumed skiing without issue. Despite this clarification, Ski Patrol personnel arrived and immediately addressed me in what I perceived to be an aggressive and accusatory manner. I was informed that I had been rude, though no explanation was provided. The interaction escalated unnecessarily. I advised the attending patroller that there was no ongoing incident and that I would not continue the conversation given the manner in which I was being addressed. I then left the scene and proceeded toward the Bowl Lift. Upon arriving at the Bowl Lift, I was informed by the lift operator that I was not permitted to board, as Ski Patrol had radioed ahead to restrict my access. Approximately five minutes later, two male Ski Patrol members arrived and continued questioning me in an aggressive tone. I was asked what school I was with; I replied that I was not affiliated with any school and was skiing with my son. I was then asked for my name and identification. I responded that I was not aware of any legal authority requiring me to provide identification under the circumstances. I was told, "Don't worry, we will find you." At this point, I wished to leave the premises. However, the only available exit route required boarding the Bowl Lift, skiing down the opposite side of the hill, and returning to the parking area. I was effectively prevented from leaving. I stood at the lift area for several minutes, in front of approximately 20-30 students, parents, guests, and my son, feeling embarrassed and distressed. I advised Ski Patrol personnel that I needed to board the lift in order to exit the property. I was then directed to surrender my 4-hour day pass. In the process of removing it, my ski jacket was damaged. After approximately ten additional minutes, I was finally permitted to board the lift and leave the area. The most concerning aspect of this incident is that I was prevented from exiting the resort. Denial of access to the only available egress point effectively detained me without lawful authority. Additionally, my ski pass was confiscated without explanation, justification, or due process. What I was responded with was: With no other witnesses other than my son and a family friend, it was stated that "I was the cause of the collision even though I had the right of way according to the "Alpine Rules". I was accused of using vulgar and profane language when "my" witnesses said I was calm, collective, and indicated only to the people in the lift above to "mind their own business.", not knowing they were employees as they never identified themselves. I blocked their staff from their 'First Aid assessment" even though as a First Responder, I assessed no injuries. I was told that, "We have no requirement to allow anyone to reload a ski lift once their pass has been removed, there is no place on the property that a person cannot walk back to their vehicle." However, this lift, to my knowledge was the only way back to the main area of the resort where I could obtain my private property and my vehicle. The only other way would be to walk up a ski hill which is dangerous and not advisable due to oncoming skiers. I was advised I was not being allowed to load the lift; however, the Operations Manager accused me of lying and said there was an "unrelated obstruction at the other end." When I was advised otherwise on why it was stopped. There was zero transparency, zero accountability, and zero investigation. This was all damage control on Brimacombes end as they have no experience in taking accountability for their actions and took it upon themselves to lay blame against a customer and breach my Charter of Rights by not letting me leave the premises.

Their snow making machines are the top notch ones, they really spent a pretty penny for this and their investment shows since there's hardly ever any icy runs, mainly snowy ones. They're quick to start their snow machines early for the season to ensure they have a perfect snow base for the rest of the season - this is why they're always busy, because people know they have good runs here! Purchase your lift tickets online rather than in person, since it's about $15 cheaper even on the day of. The bonus here is the beaver tail cart at the base of Moonstone that you can get your sweet treat at at the end of the day.

Level up on these slopes!…read more MSLM or Mt St. Louis Moonstone is where our family learned to ski and while it's an intermediate level hill, it does have some of the best snow conditions in Ontario. That's because MSLM features 36 slopes down two adjacent mountains, with plenty of snowmaking equipment and lifts. On the one hand, the slopes here can get packed with passholders depending on the time of week. However the slopes are generally wide and there are plenty of easy black diamond slopes to work your way down. These sometimes get icy and choppy after a long day but the slopes are usually well-groomed and you might find yourself skiing through the snow gun mist. On the positive, there are plenty of lifts including Ontario's first 8-seater chairlift equipped with heated seats and automatic safety bars. They also have lift gate entry RFID scans and cafeteria checkout for efficiency. There are moguls and two terrain parks, including a smaller one for beginners. One slope is colourfully lit. While the experience here isn't that of a sprawling ski village, you can tell the owners prided in the pure European skiing spirit. In the past decade MSLM added night skiing with plenty of lighting on over 20 slopes and we've always enjoyed this experience perhaps even more so than day skiing here due to the slightly smaller crowd. Note there tends to be many ski instructors and many demographics on the slopes due to the reputation for good snow conditions as outdoor recreation has boomed. A day here costs around double that of entry ski resorts. Location-wise, it is conveniently off of Hwy 400. Skip it or hit it? We'll be back again as it's one of the better options in Ontario.

It's a smaller venue for skiing with 20 generally short slopes ranging from green to blacks, plus a tubing terrain. The chalet is small with a good number of attendees at the ticket booth, equipment shop and 2nd floor restaurant that serves up basic meal bites with a weeknight deal. Tickets are checked manually at the lifts. Many blue & black slopes themselves are relatively narrow with a few runs that are frequented into soft chopped snow. One of the hills was cordoned off for downhill racing while other slopes had minimal skiers & snowboarders heading down beside us. The lifts moved at a brisk pace although there is a triple-lift with tight seating and a tight off-ramp that was more suited for doubles to avoid tripping. The level of difficulty on the black diamond slopes was low. There is also a freestyle terrain park with jumps on the east side beside the tubing terrain, and a patch of mogul bumps on a west side slope. Overall the resort is oriented towards beginners as a short 1 hr GTA drive near Barrie. Skip it or hit it? On the one hand I was intrigued by the short narrow slopes, on the other there are more challenging and better ski facilities a little further away. Not sure how often we'd come back.
