This is an à la carte KBBQ restaurant, so the portions are already on the smaller side, and the cost adds up quickly. I've been to many Korean BBQ restaurants and have never experienced one that didn't serve rice, so that was surprising. We also tried to order galbi, but were told they were out because the person who prepares it was off at 2 PM. I found that pretty unusual, especially for a restaurant charging higher-end prices. The atmosphere is nice and definitely feels more upscale, and I will say the meat we did get was good quality. The staff was okay, but not particularly friendly or welcoming. September 3rd, Dinner. I went there with two very important guests, expecting an elevated and memorable dining experience. Unfortunately, the evening turned out to be quite the opposite--and ultimately rather embarrassing. The music was so loud that we literally had to shout to hear one another across the table. For a restaurant at this price point, it made conversation nearly impossible and completely undermined the dining experience. The portions of each meat order were shockingly small--almost comically so. We had to keep ordering additional portions just to have a reasonable amount of food. More disappointing was the quality. There was very little marbling, and the meat itself was mediocre, certainly not what I would expect considering the premium prices. The banchan selection was equally disappointing. There were essentially two types of kimchi, some scallions, and a rather comical serving of roughly cut raw cabbage. For a Korean dining experience positioned at this level, I expected considerably more thought, variety, and refinement. Service was perhaps the greatest disappointment. There was practically no attentive service throughout the evening, and the attitude we encountered felt dismissive and, at times, simply rude. I don't mind paying a premium for an exceptional experience, but premium pricing should come with premium food, hospitality, and attention to detail. Unfortunately, we received none of those. The third of seven Korean restaurants around the world designated as 'Excellent Korean Restaurants' by the South Korean government that I've visited, Daedo Sikdang is the Los Angeles instance of the famous Seoul ribeye steakhouse. Located in Koreatown near the Wilshire/Western Metro subway station, it was an easy walk for my daughter's father-in-law and me to come for a weekday lunch. We ordered off of the lunch menu, and found the meal to be quite good, though not as phenomenal as the previous two that I visited. The original Daedo opened in Seoul in 1964, focusing on ribeye steaks. The one US branch opened in July 2021, and I remember reading a bit about it when it opened. We arrived about 30 minutes after the 11:30 opening, and had choice of comfortable seating (there were plenty of open seats). It's a big, modern space inside with a large bar, large dining area, and a private banquet room with multiple karaoke breakout spaces. Our hostess mentioned that it had remodeled since its original opening. The main menu was accessible via the QR code on the printed paper placemats in front of us. There was a separate laminated lunch menu, which had better value based choices. In terms of non meat dishes, the ingredient highlighted was kkakdooki. It was one of the two banchan given, the other being a young radish kimchi (which isn't a favorite). The kkakdooki was good, though chopped unevenly. Kkakdooki Fried Rice ($15) - similar to cabbage fried rice, except it uses very finely diced radish kimchi. It was well executed with the pieces being small enough to infuse its flavor and texture. Denjang Stew ($15) - soybean soup. It was good, coming out rapidly bubbling and went really well with the really good medium grain white rice. Yukaejang ($18) - spicy beef soup, served with rice. We had to wait quite a bit for this to come out, but we thought it was worth it. It did have small strips of beef, and plenty of braken fern shoots (which my dining companion enjoyed, me not as much)). Daedo is known for their free soft serve at the end of the meal, served with a rice cracker. It was very thick, but not particularly creamy and had a slightly off taste. It seemed as if the restaurant was minimally staffed, with our interaction with our server being friendly but a bit disjointed. Our three dishes came out separately, with quite a bit of time in between, making it difficult to start eating if we wanted to wait for both of us to start...it did mar our meal a bit. But requests for additional plates along with refilling of our water was graciously obliged at all times. And after the meal, our hostess greeted us out, wishing us well. We came here for my husband's birthday dinner with a party of 8, expecting a nice meal and a memorable evening with family. Instead, we left feeling disappointed, disrespected, and honestly, shocked by how poorly we were treated. The atmosphere felt pretentious, and the service was unkind and unnecessarily rude. At one point, the staff discussed confronting us in Korean about the seaweed snack we had brought for our 6-year-old, right next to us, seemingly assuming we wouldn't understand them. They then told us to put it away because they sell their own seaweed snacks. We understand that restaurants have policies, but there is a respectful way to communicate them. Talking about customers within earshot while assuming they cannot understand you is incredibly unprofessional. The staff also rushed us through cooking the meat, making the meal feel more like a chore than an experience. To top it off, my cocktail arrived only after we had finished eating all the meat. For a birthday dinner, the entire experience felt rushed and joyless. No matter how high-quality the meat is, good food cannot make up for terrible service. There is a difference between running an upscale restaurant and treating customers as though you are somehow above them. Hospitality should be about making guests feel welcome, not making them feel like an inconvenience. What makes this experience especially upsetting is that this was our last meal together as a family before some of our family members move to a different country. It was supposed to be a special memory, and instead, the restaurant completely ruined the occasion. You can serve the finest cuts of meat, but without kindness, respect, and genuine hospitality, the experience falls flat. The Bulgogi is lean and delicious. The fried rice and the side dishes were all the best quality. When it first opened, I remember waiting almost two hours just to get a table because it was so popular. These days, it's nice that there's usually no wait. The quality of the ribeye here is excellent, which is the main reason I like this place. But, many Korean BBQ restaurants offer a wide variety of side dishes, but here they only serve one -- a green onion salad -- which is a bit disappointing. Still, the meat quality is great, the atmosphere is nice, the staff is always friendly, and they grill the meat for you very well, so it's a place I keep coming back to. After finishing the meat, I usually order the diced radish fried rice, which is one of my favorites. If you're a big eater, then maybe 2-3 orders for yourself. We also got the kimchi cold noodles that were tasty and the sides were a perfect complement to the meat. Very low carb. This is a very nice and very clean Korean bbq in the middle of Koreatown. I was surprised that there were any open tables at all on a weekend night, but I guess we got lucky. They have an interesting way of providing choices on the menu: you select the cut of meat and then select the preparation. We had traditional galbi along with ribeye in both the traditional cut and daedo cut -- hands down, get the daedo cut. The traditional cut is sliced thin and, as a result, the meat get overcooked and tough. The daedo cut is thicker and MUCH juicier. The banchan were mostly good, particularly the square cut radish kimchi. I was a little surprised they didn't have more standard cabbage kimchi. And I didn't love the raw cabbage -- I would have preferred lettuce. The cold noodles (naegmyun) was not good -- the broth didn't have much meaty flavor at all, as it was very sour and that sour flavor was just overwhelming. The opposite of your all-you-can-eat versions of k-bbq is fine with me since I'm going for quality over quantity these days. Daedo's service and cut of meat meets all the new criteria. I would start with the Daedo cut on your first visit. Nice variety, top quality, and at $59/pp worth the price. The only pass would be the steamed egg dish. It was good, but nothing special. The yukjeon was decent, although a bit too eggy. For the sides, I enjoyed the gyeranjjim the best since the eggs were so fluffy and good. They paired well with the kkakdooki fried rice. I wasn't the biggest fan of the cold noodle dishes and the flavors of them though. Lastly, I loved the complimentary milk ice cream soft serve they gave us at the end of the meal which was creamy and refreshing. For 3 people, it was around $80 each with tip. So many better Korean bbq places in LA that have better service, more complimentary banchan, better prices. Came in on Friday 10/2 for dinner, server at the time was a female Asian. During our dinner our server never attended to us other than cooking our food and bringing the food. Water was never refilled had to waive a lot of times, even when we wanted to order food she never came During cooking our bbq meat, she spilled boiling hot 된장찌개 soup all over my hands, arms, jeans, and shoes. It was so painful even now I have scars on my fingers. Accident happens, but when the incident occurred she just gave me a few tissues and didn't do anything and continued to cook.. my friends were more shocked and worried about my body than her. And friends kept asking me if I'm fine. To this day I still have scars on my fingers. Whats most disappointing is how this was handled. During the incident, there was no care or sense of urgency and helping me wipe or giving ice to cool off the burning. Plus she didn't even apologize. After the incident, she didn't even let her manager or the counter people know about what happened. At a more upscale bbq restaurant like Daedo I would expect some kind of service, incentive or even at least an apology after what happened. read more

Decidede to take my in laws to a decent kbbq spot and settled on this location. We got seated instantly. I ordered a daedo bugolgi, fried rice, daedo galbi, daedo cut, and classic ribeye cut. The food arrived pretty quickly and hit the grill asap. All the food was decent quality. The meat was tender even when a few pieces were overcooked for my tastes. The marinade on the orders of meat we got were also strong but not overwhelming the meat taste. Overall, decent kbbq spot for a non ayce. Fine quality cuts is what's going on at Daedo. Reasonably priced Cass ($9 for a tall bottle), Elysian Spacedust ($9 for a pint), and Shoji Chamisul ($16). For food, the Daedo Cut is a must-order ($59 an order). The Galbi ($53) was tasty, but cooked in the kitchen. The Kkakdooki Fried Rice ($13) is tasty and I'd suggest the Kimchi Puffs ($3) and the meat single shot ($3) as add-ons; skip the Sunny side up egg ($2). The Gyeranjjim (egg soufflé--$11) was just ok. They have all the sauces and accoutrements you need for your meat. Wish they had more banchan, especially oi kimchi or japchae. Service was mixed. Some were very polite (and pleasantly surprised at my basic Korean); some seemed a bit bored and annoyed. Had to ask 3 times for more ssamjang. Great smoke control in the restaurant and your clothes aren't smelly later. Great looking lounge for later in the night and karaoke. Super reasonable valet, at $3 for lunch. read more

They also have a bar and private karaoke rooms that is elegantly done in the back. This place is a class act down to the quality of their steaks. So tender and juicy. Service is non stop at your table whether they are grilling or taking care of your needs they deserve the higher price point because they deliver on all accounts. When I go to a Korean BBQ restaurant, I usually don't expect high-level service. If the service is fast, I already consider that good. But Daedo completely changed that expectation. The experience honestly felt closer to fine dining than a typical KBBQ spot. Jay, our server, delivered the kind of service I normally only get at places like Cipriani or Nobu--polished, attentive, and perfectly timed without being intrusive. It elevated the entire dinner. Now the food. Everything felt high quality and well thought out. The galbi and the bulgogi were both excellent and clearly different cuts with their own flavor and texture. You can enjoy ribeye roll, ribeye cap, and ribeye strip as well as other cuts or preparations like bulgogi and galbi. They have a small bar if you're just looking to get drinks or you can enjoy them with your dinner. They have a great selection of libations including wine, beer, and cocktails. Overpriced, unfriendly staff, and very small portions of meat which they undercooked and served as raw. After cooking they left the burner on max and the lard just started burning. Not once did they come back to check on how things were. They turned then on the fan towards the table, effectively turning the meat into cold raw meat. Recently checked out Daedo Sikdang -- the vibes are definitely upscale. They've nailed the presentation and aesthetic: open kitchen view, super high ceilings, and tons of natural light. Parking is valet-only and somewhat limited, but there are a few neighborhood spots nearby if you're lucky. I went around 6 PM on a Wednesday with a reservation, and it wasn't crowded at all -- you could probably walk in without one. Since it was my first time, I wanted to try a little of everything. We each got the Daedo Cut, which includes Certified Angus Beef: ribeye roll, ribeye cap, and ribeye strip. We also tried the galbi, which was probably my favorite -- super flavorful and perfectly marinated. One thing I really appreciated is that they cook everything for you, so no need to stress if you're new to KBBQ. Everything came out perfectly. They don't serve a ton of banchan, but they're known for their kkakdugi (cubed spicy radish -- basically kimchi's cousin), and it was solid. The steamed egg was fluffy and definitely recommendable. My personal favorite was the yolmu cold noodle -- the cold broth is the perfect refreshing finish after all the grilled meat. As a non Korean I also agree. Their meat is somewhat pricey but gems on the menu include the galbi which is prepared in the kitchen along with the Korean fried rice which you can add beef. I came here this past weekend, after hearing so many rave reviews, and it definitely did not disappoint. We ordered the Classic Korean cut, the Daedo Bulgogi, the Daedo Cut, fried rice, and the Daedo Yukjeon. Everything from beginning to end was amazing! The meats were all so tender, you didn't even need any of the sauces. We also ordered some drinks: red punch, amazon 1964, and the quilted smoke. The drinks were all strong as heck, but the quilted smoke was definitely my favorite. Customer service was fine, our waiter was quiet but attended to our needs and cooked our meats perfectly. The restaurant was lively, without being too loud. I really liked the ventilation in there, so that you don't walk out smelling like smoke. My only wish was some complimentary rice or rice papers. read more

Daedo's food is delicious and the quality is great. The service is friendly and almost professional? They have a host and servers who'll cook for your table as well. Parking is valet like most KBBQ places in Ktown. Their menu is pretty simple since they specialize in rib-eye cuts and have a full bar which is rare for KBBQ. It's the fanciest KBBQ place I've been to and has very modern aesthetics. I'm giving 4stars only because it's a bit pricey. It's a great place for work dinners. read more

The worst service I've ever had a restaurant. They took drinks orders for half the table. One of us asked for more water they filled up their glass no one else's. We were ignored countless times to order more food or more drinks. We needed to personally walk up to get our check then bring our card up to close out. Early Sunday birthday dinner. Service started slow then got better. Daedo basic meat quality was good but really small portion for the price. Stay away from the galbi, cooked in the kitchen, bland and almost room temperature. Sides were simply awful...fried rice was minimal flavor, very small quantity. Noodles were med, way overpriced and not worth it. If you mix in some of the sauces and radish kimchi juice, elevates the flavor but otherwise not worth the price. I first tried daedo during their opening week... it was super hyped up and I had high expectations. For the hype, it totally flopped for me. One thing is price for portion size. I overlooked it based off the quality of meat... I can deal with that cuz their "daedo cut" especially was really freakin good and the servers were really on point with the cook and temp of it to maximize flavor. But their entrees and banchans were sooooooo mid I was totally turned off by it. Entree and side dishes are a huge part of a Korean meal. Fast forward few years later I went with my friends who said they really wanted to try. I had my concerns but thought things might have changed. Sadly, I was again disappointed by the same things. Radish kimchi fried rice was decently good, no burnt crunchy rice bottom tho... the best part of the dish was missing. Dongchimi gooksu is all bad.... Too sour, not enough flavor, and the mulkimchi greens had an overly fermented smell as well. Dwenjang jjigae was 5/10, steam egg was decently 8/10. Service was really great tho, shout out to the servers for making the experiencing 10/10. I think this is solid place you can bring a date, throw a bday party, or flex on a business meeting with some non-koreans. But if you want a full out kbbq experience it will def leave you a bit unsatisfied. read more
