Yum!! I got the lunch special blackened chicken po'boy with a side of sweet potato fries and it was super good! Chicken was perfect, sweet potato fries were really flavourful. Coleslaw was just okay, not a lot of flavour - but what do you expect really from coleslaw haha. I absolutely love the complimentary jalapeño jelly they give with the biscuit!! The only reason this isn't a five star rating was because my bun was cold when it came out to me. Po'boy was still yummy, but would have been better if the bun was warm. Sweet. Potato. Fries. It was late...about 10pm and I still hadn't had any dinner. There was only one place on my mind... Dadeos. The taste of New Orleans in a 50's style diner. From the checkered floor, red leather booths, to the individual juke box on each table, some items could be taken straight out of the move set of Grease. I ordered the calamari po boy and my friend had the blackened catfish po boy. We split them because we were greedy and couldn't decide between them. The calamari was good but the blackened catfish stole the show. It was melt in the mouth delicious. Dadeo's famous sweet potato fries were so more-ish and I was full but couldn't stop eating them. I ate one fry too many. I shared a 1/2 litre of Pinot Grigio with my friend. The wine was not good unfortunately so I am dropping a star. It's not a wine bar so next time I'll stick to beer. I love this place. The retro feel, the way the staff treats you and the FOOOOOOD!!!!!! I always like grabbing a tasty lunch here, with it's a great sort of outside the box look and feel, but it is the Po'Boys that keep me coming back. They make some great renditions of Po'Boys. Blackened Chicken is one of the go to basics, but I like to go for a good Blackened Catfish myself. Not everything is blackened though, they do have a sauteed veggie and even oysters or calamari. I can't believe that I haven't submitted a review yet for this little gem! My newly minted husband and I came here for our first dinner date. I was introduced to Dadeo many, many moons ago. This is the kind of food that you crave! Local art pieces are displayed on the walls along with many vintage nicknacks here and there. It is decorated like a 50s diner with booths and individual jukeboxes on the tables. Beer drinkers rejoice! Dadeo partnered up with AlleyKat Brewery and has their own "Chili Lager" on tap that you cannot taste anywhere else. It pairs delightfully well with just about anything that Dadeo has on the menu. The butter biscuits and Jalepeno jelly are an aperitif to get that palate ready for what is to come. The Jalepeno jelly is available for purchase at the front counter if you are ever so inclined! The Po'Boys and the Steamed Mussels are what keep me coming back again and again. My favourite Po'Boy is the Deep Fried Oyster, served up with a side of sweet potato fries! These sweet potato fries are not your every day, run of the mill variety either - they are hand battered, fried to perfection and seasoned with Dadeo's cajun spice blend. Dadeo also serves my favourite dessert: Bananas Foster! This is indeed a dessert experience! Your server will come out with a cart that has all the ingredients. They melt real butter and brown sugar together and then poach pieces of banana in it. They then add dark rum and light it on fire to flambe it a bit. This is then poured over premium vanilla bean ice cream and presented to you all table-side. I usually like to save this for an annual thrill on my birthday! Why not five stars? Service has always been hit and miss for me. There is one waitress that has been there for forever. When I am in her section, it is always a pleasant experience. Everyone needs to come to Dadeo's is for one reason. Best Sweet Potato Fries In Edmonton. But aside from their fantastic sweet potato fries, Dadeo's is also a great New Orleans style restaurant. They have a lot of Cajun dishes including po boys, jambalaya, crab cakes - and other yummy foods. I've never been to New Orleans, so I can't compare this to what's there but I really like the food here. Last time I got the crab cake po boy and of course sweet potato fries. It was delicious. For the price you pay you get a lot of food. They have a variety of drinks including Alley Kat on tap - but I opted for a classic cherry Coke. One thing to note is that minors are not allowed. The decor is very cool, very much a 50's style diner. I've seen some complaints about service, but it's always been fine when I've. Our waiter highly recommended the special which was a chicken and apple quesadilla that my friend got, and she said it was delicious. There are other reviewers that have said this place is closed - but I believe they are referring to another restaurant called Dadeo's which was in Vancouver. It's been a while since I had been to Dadeo's but when I went back I remembered why - those Po'Boy's. MMMM. You can't get any better. Wait.... Was it those Sweet Potato Fries??? Hard to decide. Regardless. They have great food and great service. I went there for lunch with a girlfriend and it was so yummy. The corn fritters here are also amazing. Not too greasy which can just ruin your appetite but just crispy on the outside and warm and fluffy on the inside. Perfection. The restaurant is just tucked away on Whyte Ave and because it's so small and licensed you can't go in there with the kids. It's one of my little things I wish I could change because I do like to introduce the kids to yummy local food. That being said, they do offer take out or delivery, and really, where would you put them??? This is a great lunch spot but be prepared to wait on occasion (another thing which can be a bit bothersome). Remember too, it is Whyte Ave so parking can be a bit of a bother. The restaurant looked promising but I was initially leery of the Southern theme... in the prairies. The food was ok, the seafood gumbo is cooked paella style (and not gumbo style) but still tasty and spiced appropriately. What this place became was a place where the servers were extremely stressed out about turn over time. So, it wasn't a simple matter of sitting and enjoying a meal with friends, it was an "are-you-done-yet?" themed evening. Our "disco" server kept saying, "I feel bad, but I need this table for another group, are you done yet?". It didn't matter that the food took FOREVER to come out, once on the food was on the table the obsessive "are you done yet" panic ensued. Even the floor manager was stressed; it made it impossible to enjoy the meal and the conversation became about the stress. So, we became done... without fully enjoying the meal... and went elsewhere for the remainder of the evening. Ironically, there were lots of empty tables. I can't count how many times I walked by Dadeo and thought "I need to try this place" before I finally walked in. It kind of has the mystique of an old-school diner from the outside, and once you finally step inside you realize that's exactly what it is. Dadeo perfectly captures the ambience of a Cajun diner. It isn't exactly the most vegetarian friendly place, but unlike some restaurants, at least there are some options. The first time I came here, I opted for the BBQ beans and rice. Our waitress suggested that rather than eat it as is, I order a side of extra vegetables. Best suggestion ever! The fried onions and peppers were the perfect addition to the meal. They should just serve it like that every time. Yum! I absolutely love the jalapeño jelly they serve with the buttermilk biscuits that always come before your meal. It's a great combination of spicy and sweet and is an excellent way to get you ready for your meal. Another thing I really like about Dadeo is that unlike most extremely busy, trendy restaurants, they actually take reservations. This definitely helps when I'm trying to plan an outing or event. My friend introduced me to this place, and I loved it! It's a 50's style Cajun/New Orleans diner, with lots of chrome and vinyl furnishings. The service is great, very friendly ppl ... our waiter started talking to us about music, for some reason. But he was still cool. They start you off with these awesome buttermilk biscuits that are so light and fluffy, they melt in your mouth. And the green jelly they serve it with may look a bit toxic, but trust me -- it's soooo good ... you'd be crazy not to try it. The green jelly is actually a sweet jalapeno jam; not spicy, but sweet and tangy with a subtle kick to the taste buds. Oh yeah, gimme s'more! I had the catfish, and it was oh-so-good too. I'd tell you what my friend had, but I can't remember ... I think I was too busy stuffing my face with catfish. The fish was tender and juicy, and just spicy enough with black pepper that I could enjoy both taste and texture. Our bill was also pretty decent, coming to about $16 to $18 for each of us. Been going to Dadeos for over 10 years every chance we get. Love the decore, the atmosphere and the staff. They always start you off with a Dadeo Jalapeño jam on biscuit, used to be a jello lime green color but recently it's made pale yellow. Regardless still tasted good, but not as appealing. Our go to dish is the Combo Ya-Ya - composed of Cajun blacken shrimp, seared scallops, fried oysters on a bed of Jambalaya and a side of slaw. Over the years the quality was unforgettable but this time around pure disappointment. The fried oysters seemed to have been diced up oysters blended in starchy ingredients and overly fried. In the past it was a large whole oyster lightly battered with a Cajun flare. The scallops were small and rubbery, which was one of our favs as they used to prepare it perfectly using giant sea scallops and lightly seared. Only things that were consistent was the rice and slaw. Not sure if they hired a new chef or they've looked for new ways to cut costs but either way this was enough to not return anytime soon. Some people rave about this place, and that's warranted, sure. I like the place -- it has the aesthetic of an old bowling alley combined with an old-school diner, and there's something to be said for that, clearly! The food itself -- I used to like it more before I finally visited New Orleans, to be honest. This place was very unique in design and in what they served. Personally I've never been to a southern cuisine restaurant but it was a great surprise! The service was excellent as well. The Philly cheese was pretty tasty but was a bit on the messy side. The steak was also a bit tough. Judging from this meal, I would probably order a different po'boy next time. The po'boy was alright but the star of my dish was the sweet potato fries. They put some amazing batter and seasoning on these things to give them that extra crunch and hit of Cajun flavour that I like. I would definitely come back just for those fries. Plus the garlic aioli dipping sauce was the perfect accompaniment. My boyfriend ordered the seafood jambalaya. I personally don't like too much seafood but he loved it. They gave plenty of seafood and the rice was especially flavourful. It will be ordered again. For dessert I took home the hand-made key lime pie. It was a little too much crust for me and on the sweet side. Not my favourite. Overall the fries and service made me give this restaurant 5 stars. My favourite night to visit is Sundays when their delicious wings are on special. Granted, $8 for an order of wings can still be considered pricy, but it hurts less than the regular price of $14. My favourite is the southern fried and for an extra $1, I ask for a sauce on the side. It goes perfectly with the spicy chili beer they only serve here - which is only $5 on Sundays too. The po boys are always a good option. Sides we always love are the sweet potato fries with their addictive garlic dip or the potato hash. Dadeo's is a great place for Cajun-style cuisine. Their Po-Boys are generously filled and always leave me stuffed. I always substitute their potatoes for sweet potato fries and trust me, it's worth the extra dollar. This comes with a chipolte-mayonnaise mixture and I always find myself overloading on the dip on my fries. I like the old style diner feel of the restaurant. They have a miniature jukebox on some of the tables, which adds a nice touch. There has sometimes been a wait, but it has never been too long, and it is worth the wait. Prices are reasonable at this location too. Their Po'Boys are around $11, and you can get them for half price on Monday and Tuesdays. They are also open quite late (11pm on most days) which makes it very convenient for a late snack. Food service is also very quick here, although sometimes it feels as if they're trying to rush you out to serve other customers. read more

I heard so many good things about this place, and met a friend there on a holiday Monday looking forward to trying some delicious Cajun food. The decor is cool, a very 50s diner feel complete with mini juke boxes at each table. They serve alcohol but it's a pretty limited selection - three beers on tap (all Alley Kat, at least while we were there), a few specialty cocktails, and a few wine options but not a wide choice. Service was very prompt also. I couldn't decide between the jambalaya and the po'boy, but it turns out Mondays are $12 po'boy day (they're normally around $16) so I decided to order the tiger shrimp po'boy with a side of jambalaya rice. They started us off with a tiny bread roll each (what would be called a biscuit in the US) and jalapeno jelly spread to put on it, which was very tasty. My friend had got the sweet potato fries as a side and they were excellent, as many other Yelpers have noted. They were long - the full length of a sweet potato - and had been dipped in some kind of seasoned batter making them crispy and tasty outside. I'm not a huge fan of sweet potato normally, but these were really good. Sadly however, my shrimp po'boy was deeply disappointing. I used to get shrimp po'boy from an amazing food truck in San Diego and I was looking forward to something similar - soft, fresh bun, lightly toasted; stuffed full with fat, juicy, battered shrimp; spiced sauce, and a little greenery just so you can pretend there's anything remotely healthy about it. Alas. The bun was dead cold, tasted about a day old, and hadn't even looked at a toaster; there were four sad and not extremely large battered shrimps lined up in a row on the bottom bun. A row of cold sliced tomatoes was stuck to the upper bun with some kind of only barely spiced mayo. And that was it. The jambalaya rice was simply white rice with some kind of creole seasoning added; okay but nothing special. I can't say I'm a world expert on shrimp po'boys, but this was by far the worst one I've encountered so far. They seriously need to up their bun quality game, and come on, maybe for $12 (or $16 normally) throw in more than four shrimp? This place had been so hyped up to me that I was very disappointed and am now rethinking my initial plan to go back sometime and try the jambalaya. I hope today's quality was an exception to the rule, because I'd hate to think this is really the best Cajun food you can find in Edmonton. read more

Dadeo is a gift from the food gods. I love this place, and I regret not knowing about this place earlier. This place has a really cool atmosphere, that does not cross over into pretentiousness at all. I've been here twice. Once about 3 or 4 years ago and once recently. Their food was super yummy back then, but it's even better now. They did not have the biscuit and jelly before, but this small appertizer has some big taste. The jelly looks a little alien-like, and I was apprehensive to try it, because spicy jelly is weird to me. I ended up really liking it though. The sweet potato fries are really good, and I think what makes them so amazing are the spices. I really like the vegetable po'boy. It's a large bun packed with grilled veggies and the tastiest sauce. It can get kind of messy, but it's so worth it. If you can't stand spicey, you might not like this place. But if you're like me, and you like that burn in your mouth, then you're going to love it. The desserts seriously make me drool. The key-lime pie and coconut pie are superb. They are so fresh, like they just came out of the oven. The prices are really reasonable for the quality and the amount of food you get. This place gets super packed on almost evening of the week though. My boyfriend and I love Dadeos and we came here for dinner last night. It was packed and, since we didn't have a reservation, we had to wait 30 minutes. As usual it was dark inside and I think there should be better lightening. After we sat down, we were given two small rolls and jalapeño jelly; the jelly was sweet and just not spicy enough. For our food, we decided to share the nachos with added pulled pork ($4). Other toppings included salsa, melted cheese, sour cream and hot banana peppers. If there were other toppings, I can't remember. These were the best nachos I had ever eaten. My boyfriend and I tore those nachos up in 10 minutes. For our main meal we shared a Steak and cheese po boy. I took a few bites and it was hot and savory. By this time I was full, so I took my portion of the meal home. Took a half hour for my southern fried wings, they weren't crispy as I thought they would be. Gumbo had a skin on top from sitting, but was tasty. Side if rice was was cold. Delicious! Had a great experience in this hipsters paradise of a diner. Great environment and service! Started with a complimentary biscuit and jalapeño jelly. We ordered the calamari po boy sandwich and fried chicken. We were warned that the chicken might take a little longer as it is made from scratch! It didn't even take long at all! The calamari was soft and delicious; not rubbery and full of flavour. The southern seasonings were right on point. The gravy was excellent with a strong pepper kick, and great potatoes and slaw on the side. But this fried chicken was heaven. Hit up Dadeo for a Friday lunch with some work mates. Old school 50s or 60s diner concept serving up a southern Louisiana cajun menu. They don't serve minors anytime just so you're aware. The three us had poboy sandwiches each with a different side, gumbo, sweet potato fries, and the hash. The food was decent, good but not great. I've been to Dadeos before but honestly not in the last five years, same experience that I remember. The services is prompt, friendly and attentive. I think if the food quality stepped it up a bit I would frequent it more often. Love it here. A funky small little place with jazz playing. Went here for lunch with my niece and her friend. First off the biscuits and jalapeño jelly you get to start are fantastic. Then we all had po boys of one kind or another. Mine was blacked catfish which was great. Other had blacked chicken and the burger one. All good. And we were all talked into the legendary sweet potato fries. 2 of us thought they were great. It was a miss for the freind, but I see that as more of her failing and not the fries. My first bad experience here. The food, as always, was fantastic; it was the service that was poor this time. I'll keep it short, my girlfriend had ordered an orange juice, but upon tasting it she decided she didn't like it. I asked the server if she would replace it, at first she seemed reluctant saying "it came out straight of the box" as if knowing that was going to sway our opinion of whether it was good juice or not. After 30 seconds she had left to get a drink to replace it. I asked for vanilla coke, it was a regular coke. No big deal. At the end of the night though, I got the bill with the orange juice still on it. I asked her "you still charged us for the orange juice?" Hoping it was just a mistake. Her response was "yah there was nothing wrong with it". I was shocked. She never said when replacing the drink that I would still be charged for the orange juice, which remained untouched on our table. I felt completely mislead, and like a glass of orange juice mattered more to the restaurant than our patronage. I think the staff was more concerned with who was right than what was the easiest way to solve this simple problem. Even though she did end up taking it off the bill the whole thing definitely left a bad taste in my mouth, and honestly ruined the next hour of my night as I stewed over it. I was polite and simply asked for some consideration. Maybe the server was having a bad night, I'm not sure, but the way she handled the situation made it hard to sympathize. Wow! Never has my hunger been so viciously defeated by such a tasty sandwich. I got the Philly cheese steak po boy while my friend opted for the blackened catfish and we both left full and satisfied. I don't think I have ever experienced such a flavorful steak sandwich in all my years! The sweet potato fries are nothing to laugh at either. I love crispy fries and there wasn't a single one on my plate that didn't have a satisfying crunch. These are the fries that every other establishment in Edmonton that offers sweet potato fries should be aspiring to live up to. The atmosphere in here is really cool as well. If you don't go for the hipster vibe that you find in alot of the cafe's and coffee shops on Whyte than you will definitely feel right at home here in this relaxed 50's style diner setting. A nice mix of all different age groups eat here and everybody seems very laid back including the staff. I can't wait to come back but I would definitely recommenced skipping the prior meal unless your the type that likes having left overs to take home and warm up. I can't believe that I haven't reviewed Dadeo before now, seeing as it was one of the very first restaurants in Edmonton we tried, dining there on our trip to discern whether or not we would actually move to this fair city. In fact, if I am honest, I must confess that finding a decent Cajun restaurant this far from Louisiana assured this Texan gal that perhaps Alberta wasn't the end of the earth after all, and in some way, may have influenced our decision to move here. I love this place. I find the decor charming, the wait staff friendly, the busy-ness invigorating, and the food pretty darn good. All of the appetizers I've tried have been really good, especially the fritters. The po-boys are outstanding; I particularly like the fried oyster and the eggplant parmesan. The veggie combo is excellent, as are the seafood and veggie jambalayas. Oh, and let's not forget the desserts. The bread pudding is quite good, on par with some of the best in Edmonton. And oh my goodness, the bananas foster is quite the treat, but only order this if you have a group and if you are really willing to splurge on your diet. It's a once in a decade dish! Of course, I cannot forget the beer. I adore the Alley Kat chili lager, brewed especially for Dadeo and only available in the restaurant. No minors are allowed, so I will need to head back there soon, before a little minor makes his debut. But alas, being pregnant, I won't be able to drink the lager. I guess that as soon as the little tyke is old enough, I'll just have to get a babysitter and make my way to Dadeo. read more

I'm so excited to finally be writing this review!! Dadeo is one of those places that I've been meaning to check out for years. For years it was "oh yah.... I've always wanted to go there!" but for whatever reason, it was never in my mind at the right time. My mom LOVES cajun food. Her one regret in life is that she doesn't live in New Orleans. Maybe one day. But for now... we try to get to the Cajun House in St. Albert as often as possible. But we live in Mill Woods. I wasn't up for the drive, AND the big price tag. And all of a sudden.... Dadeo finally popped into my mind at the right time. And to make things even better, I got a parking spot right in front... pretty darn cool ;) The ambience hits you the second you walk in the door. It looks and sounds like a 50s dinner.... decor from a bowling alley is plastered all over the walls (SIDE NOTE: Can anyone confirm if the bowling alley items came from the former Scona Bowl? My mom is sure that they are). The lighting is extremely low, which I love... it makes me feel comfortable right away. The restaurant was packed, but we were ushered to the only empty table immediately. This place is pretty tiny, but they've done good things with the space. My only tiniest complaint... which was not even worth deducting a star for: we were seated at a booth, which was the middle of a string of 3 booths. The booths are so old and kind of falling apart, to the point that I started to get a little nauseous because the man sitting right behind me was moving quite a bit, which caused my seat to shake back and forth. It would be great if they could upgrade the seating a bit. The service was out of this world. If anybody there hates their job, you'd never guess it. All of the servers were incredibly friendly, and when we mentioned that it was our first time there, they were sure to give detailed descriptions and suggestions. We started off with the four-tune fritters (one of each of: crab & parmesan, corn, cheddar & jalapeno, and sweet potato. They were DELICIOUS. super soft on the inside and perfectly crispy on the outside. The dip that came with it was perfect too. I forgot to get the details, but it was some kind of cajun dip. However, for 2 people, it may have been a little much. I was so full from the fritters that I hardly ate any of my dinner. I went for the blackened chicken po'boy with potato hash. I agree with a previous reviewer who stated that the hash was really more like a mash with lumps in it, but it was really good regardless. The roll was crispy but not so much that you left crumbs everyone as you eat (one of my pet peeves). My waitress suggested sour cream to go with my hash, which was a great choice. My mom was so excited to see catfish on the menu... one of her favourites. And she was definitely not disappointed by her blackened catfish po'boy. They're famous for their sweet potato fries, and I can see why. I'm one of the only people in the world who doesn't love sweet potato fries, but even I could be won over here. They're HUGE and breaded so they get extra crispy when you fry them. And the herbed mayo that they give you to dip is a great change (EVERYone seems to think that chipotle mayo is the way to go... but this is better). I literally had to take more than 3/4 of my sandwhich home, but I was happy to eat is as a midnight snack later that night. We were too full for dessert, but I saw one of the servers making the bananas foster tableside, and I can't wait to try it next time. I am drawn like a bee to cajun/creole restaurants, even if they're in Edmonton, Alberta, and are made up as 50s diners. So I ordered the seafood jambalaya, which was a rather strange creation. Mixed with the rice was exactly one whole crawfish (that's right, the whole thing, although on a crawfish only the tailmeat is edible), clams, mussels, shrimp, and some baby scallops. Plus some vegetables, actually in greater profusion and frankly tastier: green peppers, zucchini (a little odd for jambalaya), and a lump of onions.
