Followed Yelp review and found this place nearby our hotel and still open by the time we finished checking in. We arrive at 10.45 and the place was still crowded. Ordered spaghetti carbonara...it was good. We are not too crazy about creamy pasta but even then I managed to finished 1/2 big serving by myself. The bacon was so so good. DH ordered fettuccini frutti di mare and it was the BOMB. Our boys shared an order of spaghetti carbonara and they had no problem finishing it off :) to top it off, we all shared tiramisu. I came here a while back, I'm glad to finally have the time to review this restaurant! One of the BEST dining experiences I have ever had. Everything I tried was amazing and the meat sauce with the ravioli was so flavorful and delicious. The tiramisu was heavenly and a great way to top off the meal. The owner, Oscar, was a joy to meet! Best food I've had in Milano. I've been living here for a month and this is the only place I can truly say is 10/10

Da Oscar gets brownie points for being a family run joint. Oscar, his wife and his daughter (Maria) run this restaurant as follows: Maria is the Field Marshal who works the front of house, alternating between herding hopeful diners in whilst seating those with reservations; while her parents run the back of house. That said, Oscar and his wife do come out to greet regulars and to serve plates as well. All of this adds together to give a sense of warmth and family closeness to the tightly packed restaurant. My partner made the perfect observation: Everyone we saw at Da Oscar was happy, either from the food, the company, or both. We came here on two nights because our experience and the food was that good. Our first night, we did not have a reservation, yet Maria managed to shuffle things around and squeezed us in. A lot of family run restaurants tend to be a mild train wreck when it comes to managing seatings. Not here. I felt like a customer in a Diner Dash game - efficiently slotted in in order to maximize happiness. As diners came and went, the seats were barely empty long enough for them to cool off such was Maria's ability to manage the inventory. The food here is rustic, home-style cooking. You will not leave Da Oscar hungry, and you will certainly be happy. Our first night, we ordered the salmon carpaccio and two spaghetti dishes (carbonara and seafood). The dishes here are huge. We could have easily shared one plate if we were light eaters. Our second night, we ordered the grilles rib-eye steak and the tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms. This is the part where Da Oscar shines - Maria remembered us from the previous night, and not only did she give us a premium seat (corner table with aisle access), our steak definitely left the chopping block weighing closer to 700g than the listed 500g. When does that ever happen?! The tagliatelle packed incredible flavor, and the chunks of fresh porcini mushroom will leave you craving for more (we actually ordered another portion to take home). The homemade tiramisu was good, but I would also save space and walk up a block on Corso Buenos Aires to Grom and indulge in some first-rate gelato after letting your Da Oscar meal settle a little. Amazing! The best meal we had in Milan!! I thought I was back in South Philly. We went at 10:30 pm and it was packed with people waiting outside. I love yelp for just this reason! Da Oscar is Da Bomb!!! We were lucky to get a spot for two at this bustling restaurant, so make sure you make a reservation if you can! The seating area is a little small if you're sharing a big table with a lot of people. We could hear conversations left and right to us but we didnt mind. Hands down our favorite pasta place in all of Italy. Milan really impressed us with their food. I ordered the spaghetti carbonara and my partner ordered the gnocchi. We bot absolutely loved it. The carbonara had bacon bits that was the perfect addition to the egg based sauce. My partner loves gnocchi, and he said it was his favorite gnocchi of all time. This is the best restaurant I've had in Italy! Oh my god, papa Oscar is such a good guys walking and greeting everyone in the restaurant. The Tagliatelle, oh my dear, is a must-order, you can't miss that. As well as the gnocchi, if you got a big stomach, lol They have really big plates, if you order Cotoletta or Filetto, it looks so good when I saw so many natives order that. We met some famous radio stars to our left that we became friendly with and drank wine. To our right was a family we also became friendly with. We hated this place. I was sick all morning after eating at Ristorante da Oscar. We made reservations per the Yelp reviews. The hostesses and bus boy were so rude to us the entire dinner. The local people got served way before us. I'm convinced they were purposely treating us badly. Wine was bad, tagliatelle de oscar has a smoky flavor and i don't recommend. The steak was covered in a weird sauce. The menu has no descriptions of anything so you either have to ask or look at pictures on Yelp. We could have been rolled out of this place for how much we ate. Risotto milanese - my god, it was big and heavy. They say for 2 people, but even that was way too much. Could have been split among 3-4 comfortably. They are nice to plate it separately and bring it as a course on its own. It wasn't actually my favorite Risotto milanese that I've had, but it sticks to tradition. Gnocchi alla Oscar (and all the alla Oscar dishes) - great flavor combination in this dish with the fresh tomatoes, brandy, cream, etc. We thought this was the best traditional pasta dish we had in Milan, and compares to some of the better from Central Italy. This was my 3rd try coming here. It is very busy, and frequently books out several days in advance. You have to call, and sometimes you have to try calling multiple times because they don't always answer when they are busy (because most people are trying to do last minute bookings). I'd personally recommend going in person to make the booking if you have time. read more

First up let le make something clear: This is a very good restaurant. The atmosphere is busy but cozy, the people are friendly, and the food is simply scrumptious. When we came in around 10 p.m., it was super busy and a trombone and accordion player even decided to seranade us at one point. If you want to go out for a quiet dinner, don't go there since the place got incredibly noisy due to the chatty patrons and the musicians. I'd recommend the carbonara, like so many before me. The food is really good and the dishes are worth the price - they're huge. I've tried some options and all were amazing. They have some free appetizers as Italian bread, olives and an "updated omelette" that's also really good. The food is well served, the seasoning is on point. I came here because of all the hype and while it was still good, it definitely didn't live up to the high expectations I had. I came alone and not sure if it's because I was alone or if I was American, but I was seated against the wall. Literally. The table next to me blocked my ability to get up or for servers to get to me without reaching over the table next to me. Anyways, the servers were still attentive luckily and accomodating for my English. One of them made sure I was served as quickly as the rest. I went with a Chianti to drink, which oddly wasn't too great. I've had lots of Chianti in Italy before that were quite amazing, but this was almost like a cheap bottle I could've gotten back home. For my meal I went with the gnocchi alla oscar. Looked beautiful. And tasted great except for the fact that it was too spicy and I could even pick out chunks of hot peppers in the sauce. I typically enjoy spice, but this with the wine made my mouth feel and taste on fire. It was difficult to continue eating even though I wanted to so badly because the gnocchi and sections of sauce and cheese without peppers were delicious, which is why I still appreciated this spot. We apparently got there right when it opened, the kitchen wasn't even open yet. The owner was nice. He still seated us and provided us with water and bread to start. I liked my penne, especially the big chunks of salmon. The cream was way too heavy though. It was so heavy, I couldn't finish my dish. I left about 1/3 of it on the plate because I couldn't eat any more of the cream. My boyfriend liked his dish, but he said it wasn't the best pasta he had in Italy. This place was absolutely stunning. We had read a review that mentioned that it was hard to get a table and since we hadn't booked in advance we came there when they opened at 19:30. They said they could fit us in until 21 which gave us ample time to enjoy this fine establishment. First of all the staff is really sweet and super professional. Everything went fast until we were waiting for the check but that was understandable since the place was packed by then. We both had the Quattro formagi pasta and it was the cheesiest and most delicious thing I have had. The white wine that was recommended to us was just perfect and the loud Italian atmosphere was just right. Best pasta we have had in our trip. The portion of the food is very generous but it doesn't lack in taste. It is only open until 2:30 for lunch and opens again at 7:30 for dinner.
