Oh man...where to start.
Overcooked spaghetti??? Absolute blasphemy in Italy. And it was aglio e olio - really the most basic spaghetti dish in Italian cooking. Come on.
The meats were hammered to death, my gnocchi was mush, the tomato sauces tasted canned, antipasti served AFTER our second course...the saving grace was the spaghetti pescatore, which, of all things, was cooked properly with a healthy amount of seafood in it. Probably the better dish of the night, but that's not difficult to accomplish.
Main reason why I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone? I was holding a business card from my host for a restaurant on the same street, and one of the workers from da Giuseppe comes to me with the same business card I have on hand - ok, he has the business card, so this should be it?
The menu didn't say the restaurant name, and when I came to check in on Yelp, found out that no, this wasn't the restaurant I was looking for; the one I was looking for was a block away from where we were, but we had already ordered when I came to that conclusion.
I know it was my fault to get suckered into eating here with my family, but you just feel really down about yourself on getting tricked for something so simple as finding a place to eat. Horrible business practice on da Giuseppe's part for tricking a customer like that, too. I really don't want to believe this is a normal practice in Rome.
Had I been tricked into eating a great Italian meal, I might not be so upset about it. But the food was absolutely mediocre (seriously...overcooked spaghetti). The food here IS super cheap, but honestly, pay a couple extra Euros for a decent meal somewhere else.
I have zero reason to ever bring my business here again. read more
