Went to Rome for the first time in July 2024 with my wife and one of my stepsons. Some friends of ours in the USA told us that any time they are in Rome, they are sure to go to "Dino & Toni's" near the Vatican. We went to Rome for a few days and packed every moment with activities - the Colosseum, a food tour, a cooking class, museums, historical sites, gelato (every night and some days, too), etc. We spent a day at the Vatican including the Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Basilica. Because we were told that Dino & Toni's is located close by, I tried calling several times to make dinner reservations. Whenever I reached someone, it was fruitless, as no one seemed to speak adequate English to accomplish this. So...we just showed up and asked if we could be seated. At first, a younger man said that they were full for the evening and couldn't accommodate us. Dino overheard him and intervened. He urged us to stay and although they were very busy, he made us a makeshift table. He was an older gentleman and although he only spoke broken English, I asked him whether he was Dino or Toni. With a twinkle in his eye and much theatrics, he shouted, "NO! NO DINO!!! I TONI!!!" and we all laughed. He was the best! We just sat down and out came the food. No menus! Salads, antipasto, pasta, pizza, more food, wine, limoncello, and dessert. All without asking for anything. It never stopped! If the wine ran low, they brought more. My step-son and I started doing shots of limoncello toward the end of the evening and they made sure we never ran out. Despite the language barrier (or maybe because of it), it was all done with charm and a warm, family, Italian friendliness that I thought only existed in movies. Toward the end of the evening, I began to wonder how large the bill was going to be for all this delicious food and drink. We were all stuffed and even though they wanted to bring us more, we said "enough" and asked for the check. I was astonished by how low the bill was and how it was an even number (for a party of 3). I realized that these two elderly gentlemen (I'm pretty sure) just picked a number out of the air. They were not doing it anymore for the money, but for the joy of giving us a memorable experience. They just love what they do! And loved sharing it with us. We thanked them several times for their delicious food and hospitality to us and as we got up to leave, I asked another elderly gentleman I had seen running around the restaurant if he was Dino. Again, with much fanfare and the same glint in his eye, he exclaimed, "YES!! I DINO!! NO!! NO!! NO TONI!!!" Such a great night. And believe it or not, even with all the amazing experiences Rome has to offer, having dinner at Dino & Toni's was one of the highlights of our trip and the one memory that makes me smile the most! I should have written this review a long time ago, but I did not. I have thought about it a 1,000 times and have now (finally) taken the time to do so. I hope to get back to Rome again one day and if I do, you can bet you'll find me eating at Dino & Toni's. For an additional bonus, as we were leaving for the night, both Dino & Toni were delighted to take pictures with us - not with both of them together, of course!

This was one of the best experiences we had in Italy. After a long day walking around Rome and an evening touring the Vatican, we found this very authentic and delicious restaurant not far from the beaten path. The staff did not really speak English, and they gestured my husband and I into ordering the house special. Great decision ! They just kept bringing out plate after plate of little pizzas, calzone things, three plates of pasta, desert , limoncello, etc. I think it came down to $30-50 a person, I forgot. It was a beautiful and unforgettable experience for an American ! There were a ton of locals there kissing and greeting the staff, so that was a good sign to us that this place was a neighborhood staple.

I went to this restaurant because it was highly recommended on YouTube by a bunch of bloggers. I seriously want to warn other tourists. It was super busy with many locals, so I thought we were safe. We were not. We were never given a menu, the owner was running around asking "appertivo?" or "meat or fish?" and ended up serving us a nearly 4 course dinner, for lunch. When we said we didn't want something he looked offended so we said okay. By the end of the lunch it took over an hour and a half, we were stuffed, and we paid more than any other restaurant that we went to in Rome. We were looking at a nearly 120 euro bill just for lunch. I was appalled. The food was nothing special. I got better cacio e Pepe at a random Italian burger fusion restaurant down the street. The fish was so greasy it upset my stomach literally the rest of the night. The service definitely slowed down towards the main entrees and we waited a long time, all while being seated shoulder to shoulder with strangers and the owners screaming at the staff. My warning to tourists is: stand your ground when being offered something that you do not want, ask for an itemized bill (it's illegal if they don't), and DO NOT feel pressured to tip. The owner was giving out t shirts and plates to those that tipped which felt like pressure in itself.

The food was phenomenal and abundant for such a great and historic city! There is not enough time to explore Rome but this restaurant is a must see on your list. The pasta was fresh, deliciosa and rich with unique tastings and texture. The staff was so pleasant and treated us like family. It was a great time at the restaurant !

During out last visit in August of 2019. Dino and Tony standing while we all enjoy a fabulous dinner.

Dino e Toni is a neighborhood gem that you must try when in Rome. We first experienced this little gem back in 2006 and it was just thesaurus then as it is today. Brothers Dino and Toni are the quintessential Italian restauranteurs, and make you feel as though you are family. And believe me, when they say mangia, you mangia. And just like an Italian mother they will scowl at you if you don't clean the plate! Fabulous food. When you go just let them feed you, don't use the menu. You will not be disappointed. Fabulous Roman food. From St Peter's it's about 3/4 of a mile walk. Just follow the wall that forms the border to the Vatican and you will get there! It's such a wonderful place. We go every time we are in Rome.

The name may be wrong on yelp. In exact same location is a place called "hostaria dei bastioni" but I believe it is the same place. I had the spinach ravioli with almond sauce and I didn't leave a spot of sauce left on my place. It was so creamy and I did not want to waste a single drop. Good location, good prices.

There aren't words enough to describe how much I loved this place. It is a jewel of Rome. The food is abundant and amazing, but the best part is the interaction with and between the brothers! Grazie Mille!

Great place! Good food. But make sure you clean your plate or you won't get your next course. Overall, a fun experience.

Everyone needs a trip to Italy, if nothing more than to enjoy all of the food…read more When you've landed, you're hungry, and it's not lunch time, and it's not dinner time, you may end up, selling for whatever you can find is open We were absolutely starving, and wanting to indulge in our first Italian meal, what do you do when you're in Italy?! You may want to indulge in pasta or pizza! We walked in, and we were immediately seated. Air conditioning is nonexistent, and on a hot summer day, it would've been cooler to dine outside. had that been an option, and it was 95° out. As soon as we were seated, we were immediately told that Pizza and some of their baked Italian dishes were not going to be available. Boo. The wait staff seemed fairly nice, and offered to bring us glasses of water. The glasses were super tiny, and thankfully the waitress brought over a carafe of water. We asked for a few suggestions, since both of us had been craving pizza, and she suggested the Carbonara. She said it was one of the best dishes. While we were waiting for our food, several other tables were immediately filled up with other customers, families and friends alike. It was interesting that those tables were served pizza... I'll just leave it at that. The carbonara Was anything less than delicious. We both found the pasta to be barely cooked. Not al dente, but barely cooked. The seasoning was mediocre, and there was very little pork, which is supposed to be the highlight of this dish, in this dish. Diners tip: if you are not a local, keep in mind that your version of Customer Service may or may not fit what Customer Service is in Rome. Despite being hungry, I had a hard time, finishing the food, let alone actually eating it. The waitress only came over at the end to drop off the check, and when she noticed that I had barely eaten anything, first gave me a strange look, and then asked about it. It was definitely one of those situations where saying something was wrong would've been met with unwanted attention. This is in a place to add to your must try list... There are plenty of other places, even in and around this area that more than likely would be a better choice.

Bufala pizza with red sauce and lasagna was excellent. Seating was fast and good serviceread more
