My husband and I stopped by this restaurant when visiting the Trastevere area in Rome. We couldn't have picked a better restaurant. The meal comes with fresh bread and we purchased a bottle of white wine. The wine we had chosen was sold out, but the waitress, who luckily spoke English, recommended a different wine and it ended up being delicious! My husband ordered a pizza and I ordered a pasta dish. Every expectation I had for pasta when visiting Rome was met in that one dish. Loved it. I can't remember the names of the entrees, so I will post pictures.

1.). Food was good. Not great by far, but not disappointing. Just good. 2.). Waitress very nice. But, as expected service little slow. Appetizers: We ordered Fiori zucchini which was very good. Rice ball was just okay. Bruschetta pomodoro was good-tomatoes where delicious. Carciofo was amazing-the olive oil it was served in was delicious. The insalata primavera was fine. Nothing special - just lettuce few tomatoes, ciliagini and some other cheese. Dinner: Spaghetti bolognese was very good and the pizza margherita was good--not great. It definitely good. You can see the pizzaiolo rolling the dough and making the pizza when you walk in. Everything was super fresh. BEWARE... 3.). They charge you a 10% service fee, which you find on your bill. We didn't see any sign of this on the menu or anywhere and we're a bit taken aback by it. 4.). They charge you $1 euro per person for table bread. Wtf. 5.). They offer a hot antipasta appetizer but there is a minimum 2 person order and each is $11 euro. This is written on the menu. Wtf. The restaurant seems more like a tourist spot, especially with those "hidden" charges. But...we had to eat.

The Best Pizza I've Ever Eaten! 'Ai Spaghettari'

Based on my Italian fellow yelpers this place is a 3?? For me it was an absolute stunner! After visiting Vatican City meeting with some representatives I was starving and a buddy of mine who gives tours at the Vatican Museum suggested any place in Trastevere would provide 'the best authentic Italian food' which was about 7 to 10 minute taxi ride away during rush hour from the Vatican. My hired car dropped me and my colleagues in a courtyard area in Trastevere and the neon lights of Ai Spaghettari called us in. There is a beautiful front patio area with heaters but it was such a slow night they didn't have the patio area open. Inside wasn't to shabby as it was a very inviting Italian atmosphere. The waiter kindly suggested that everybody in my group start with Buffalo Mozzarella Cheese and Bruschette along with prosciutto and melon which is the staple starter. I ended up ordering the house Pizza the 'Ai Spaghettari' and so far this was 'THE BEST PIZZA IVE EVER EATEN.' What impressed me so much was that the service was great, the food was VERY AFFORDABLE, and everything was hand made upon ordering. I actually watched the chef kneed the dough and toss it through the air and into an oven of historic goodness. Molto buona, Il cibo è fantastico! This area was truly authentic Italian atmosphere at it's finest from the service to the ambiance. Make it a point to try this place and go out of your way from the main stream tourist traps. You will be happy you did. La vita buona e buona cucina!

Super accommodating to our big group of 17!! Service was kind of slow, but ordered a lot of different food & the power went out -- so that's probably why... ordered sea base & seasonal vegetables- both were really good!! The potatoes that came with the sea bass were TO DIE FOR!! Definitely would go back

Zucchini blossoms stuffed with anchovies and cheese...delicious!

This place really hit the spot. It was conveniently located close to the apartment we were staying in Trastevere, open late ( a great asset since we'd just arrived from the US West Coast) and reasonably priced. The service was very friendly, efficient and helpful. The food was a mix of great (primarily), decent and one "not great". The great was the pizza margherita and the zucchini blossoms stuffed with anchovies and cheese and then breaded and fried. The decent were the lasagna? the spaghetti bolognese, the red table wine, the tiramisu and the coffee. The one "not great" was the "suppli", fried rice balls with cheese and meat. Overcooked and bland. But overall, a great experience.

I always enjoy the food when I visit. It is at Ai Spaghettari that I learned to appreciate tiramisu - it is a fairy tale. :)

Everyone needs a trip to Italy, if nothing more than to enjoy all of the food…read more When you've landed, you're hungry, and it's not lunch time, and it's not dinner time, you may end up, selling for whatever you can find is open We were absolutely starving, and wanting to indulge in our first Italian meal, what do you do when you're in Italy?! You may want to indulge in pasta or pizza! We walked in, and we were immediately seated. Air conditioning is nonexistent, and on a hot summer day, it would've been cooler to dine outside. had that been an option, and it was 95° out. As soon as we were seated, we were immediately told that Pizza and some of their baked Italian dishes were not going to be available. Boo. The wait staff seemed fairly nice, and offered to bring us glasses of water. The glasses were super tiny, and thankfully the waitress brought over a carafe of water. We asked for a few suggestions, since both of us had been craving pizza, and she suggested the Carbonara. She said it was one of the best dishes. While we were waiting for our food, several other tables were immediately filled up with other customers, families and friends alike. It was interesting that those tables were served pizza... I'll just leave it at that. The carbonara Was anything less than delicious. We both found the pasta to be barely cooked. Not al dente, but barely cooked. The seasoning was mediocre, and there was very little pork, which is supposed to be the highlight of this dish, in this dish. Diners tip: if you are not a local, keep in mind that your version of Customer Service may or may not fit what Customer Service is in Rome. Despite being hungry, I had a hard time, finishing the food, let alone actually eating it. The waitress only came over at the end to drop off the check, and when she noticed that I had barely eaten anything, first gave me a strange look, and then asked about it. It was definitely one of those situations where saying something was wrong would've been met with unwanted attention. This is in a place to add to your must try list... There are plenty of other places, even in and around this area that more than likely would be a better choice.

Bufala pizza with red sauce and lasagna was excellent. Seating was fast and good serviceread more
