The Arancini Etna at €4.50 is pretty yummy. A rice ball deep fried to a nice thin light brown crunch. There's mildly spicy sausage in mildly spicy marinara inside. It's filling and, if you're not careful, slightly messy - use your hands, no fork necessary nor suppled. Grab an espresso or americano to go along with it. Or them, but they're filling, remember, and you're going out for dinner later. Take a number and you'll be served soon. The staff spoke good English when we went. The extensive menu is on your phone, though locals just point at the myriad items on display. Tell them you want your receipt before you pay with your credit card if you are expensing. Visited Da Cristina while in Taormina -- because you can't come to Sicily and not have arancini. The setup is very casual with fast ordering, though expect a long wait (worth it). Service was efficient despite the crowds. We tried the prosciutto and cheese arancini, and honestly, it was the first time I truly enjoyed one -- the cheese and prosciutto melted together perfectly, with great texture and flavor. This place was one of the top arancini we had the whole trip! It was super close to where we were staying and the prices were so affordable. We tried the pistachio arancini and the ragu one both were €3.50 and perfect to share. Of the two I really loved the pistachio one but both were so incredible! They do offer other things like pizza or stuffed pizza if arancinis aren't your thing. But wow,I really loved these! Outrageous Arancini. Worth the hype, worth stopping for. The ragu is perfect and I am kicking myself for not getting one last one before leaving. The pistachio and mushroom was also excellent. I was really surprised by this one. I am also still craving it. Lastly, the eggplant Arancini. I would have perhaps enjoyed it more had I not been so full, but it was very enjoyable. It's the ragu with eggplant. I'd skip the pizza, there's better pizzarias in taoromina, but there is not a better place for Arancini. read more

This was the only place that offered a salad while we were in Sicilia so that's a plus! I love some prosciutto and formage but also need a nutrient once it's a while. They also offer street food and known for their arancini, we ordered the ragu and pistachio. Ragu definitely won the battle there, it came out piping hot and was delicious! This place was so good that we came for lunch and then brought a couple of friends with us for dinner later that night! The Gnocchi was fantastic as was the Tagliata with Bolognese sauce. The arancini is of course the best. We stayed at the Four Seasons in Taormina so it was right across the street. The service was prompt, the staff polite, the food delicious, and it is a bit tucked away, so it is less touristy: a lot of locals drop through here. The pizzas are "alla taglia", by slice, so you can choose from quite a variety to try out a bunch of different kinds. read more

In a town full of restaurants where you can eat expansively (and expensively), it's nice to be able to duck into a place where you can have well made, tasty dishes of a more moderate size, and for a very reasonable price. This is actually two restaurants in one - the downhill entrance is for the quick bites and to-go food that most reviewers have mentioned. The takeaway food is delicious and very affordable. We had amazing pistachio arancini, two different pasta dishes. There are tables outside near the takeaway area that is seat yourself. Off a side street from the Duomo, this pizza place is self serve. Just choose your pizza slices and they bring it right to your table. We chose one pizza at a time so that all its oven baked goodness came steaming out when you take that first and last bite. The selection is pretty large and you can't go wrong with any of them. Best rosticceria ever! Da Cristina's is a family run to-go eatery, except for a few small tables for casual dining. (Weather permitting, you can always find a place to sit up the steps and to the right in the Duomo courtyard.) The menu is eclectic, serving up single slices of all combinations of pizzas/focaccia, mini stuffed pizzas (similar to calzones), arancinis, french fries, fresh baked breads, best lasagne in the world, pastas (we tried the ragu with eggplant which was amazing), occasionally roast chicken and roasted potatoes (bursting with flavor), homemade pies and cakes (whole or by slice). Beverages and beer. Prices are very modest. Service is awesome. They sell out fast on some items, understandably. If you leave Taormina without trying this rosticceria, you will be missing out on a truly authentic Sicilian dining experience. read more
