Worst store/proprietor experience in my entire my life!
I brought some discontinued Levi jeans in to have the knees re-enforced to prevent any potential holes. The material at each knee had already become thin (only slightly), but the potential for tearing in the not too distant future was there. The total cost was $20.
I requested a full knee patch on each leg (inside seam to outside seam), and explained in great detail exactly what I wanted. The end result was the following;
On one knee, she placed two patches (one above the other), with the edge of the top patch running dead centre of the knee. On the other knee, she placed one small patch that's not even positioned over the problematic area (centre/kneecap). Why is she unable to follow the simplest of instructions? Or at the very least (as a trained professional?) use her supposed expertise and make the right decision to best suit this scenario. To make things even worse, she failed to patch the knees from seam to seam (as per my request), but rather as stated above, the edge of the patch runs vertically at the middle of the knee where the material is thinning (this is clearly visible)! When the knee finally does rip, this will be the first vulnerable place along he edge of the patch. I'm no seamstress (apparently she is?), but common sense tells me the best thing to do would bring the edge of each patch to the leg seams. This would not only add stability, and prevent tearing at the middle of the knee, but would also eliminate the bunching up of the material. During our conversation, she kept reiterating how she is a "professional". Had that been true, I wouldn't have been returning to her her store presenting her shoddy workmanship, and leaving her a 1 star review on Yelp.
I asked why she put two patches on one knee, if the second patch was an afterthought, and why she didn't simply place one larger patch from the onset. I also explained that my kneecap is situated at the centre of my knee, and asked why that patch seam ended dead centre (see photo) where it will no doubt rip open when I bend my knee? To this she had no logical response (how could she?), as she clearly knew I was aware of her mistake(s). She did however try to offer several lame excuses.
Vu then told me she could repair it again, but that it would cost me! I explained I thought this unfair, that her repair was clearly unacceptable, and she should finish the job properly as per my initial request, without charging me additional money.
When a person brings something back because they're unhappy, as a business person you should try your best to accommodate that customer, especially when your repairs are obviously bad, even to the "untrained eye". She wanted to charge me an additional $20 per leg, for a total of $60!
From the moment I entered the store with her poor repair in hand, I explained things in a very polite manner. But It's clear this woman is incapable of receiving any sort of complaint or constructive criticism in a mature rational manner. Our conversation went from the utmost diplomacy on my part, to her yelling at me, telling me that I don't know what I'm talking about, etc.
In the end, I refused to fork out more money (an additional $40 on top of the $20 I already paid), placed my jeans into my bag and proceeded to leave the store. On the way out I told Vu I found her very unprofessional, that I would never recommend her, and that I'd be leaving a negative review on Yelp. She in turn followed me down the stairs into the street and continued screaming at me like a mad-woman, telling passers by that I had verbally abused her! Perhaps hoping someone would assault me as a result? Lol. Wow!
Yeah, crazy only begins to describe this person.
Please see the attached photo of Vu's poor workmanship, and judge for yourselves. Why would any competent tailor/seamstress try to pass this off as quality work? I could have done a far better job on my wife's sewing machine. Any competent tailor would have sewn one larger panel on each knee from seam to seam. read more
