I highly recommend getting a facial from Winny. I recently got a facial and it was so worth it. She removed my black heads, exfoliated, massaged my face and shoulders and put a hydrating mask on. The entire facial was soothing and definitely made my skin feel refreshed. She was gentle and her hands were so smooth and by the end of the session, my skin was glowing and hydrated. I am definitely coming back here and specifically asking for her. She also concluded the facial with giving me helpful tips for maintaining my skin. Since nail salons have opened back up during Phase 3 in NYC, I was looking for a place that would be open after 8pm. Upon calling ahead (appointments necessary now), Lily, the owner of D Shiny, actually stated they are open until 7:30. This was great news, as I work during the weekdays, and she gave me the last appointment of the day at 6:10pm. This was my first time here, and I was incredibly impressed at how clean and tidy establishment was. The bottles of polish were organized, as well as the gels and spools of foil and adornments for special customization. First up during my visit was eyebrow waxing ($10). Lily whisked me away to the back room, promptly waxing and grooming my overgrown arches! She was very gentle during the process, and I never felt any stinging. During my pedicure, a tub liner was used, as well as a one-time-use disposable sticker on the foot buffer. It had been 4 months since my last mani-pedi, so today I opted for the special Green Tea Spa pedicure ($38). (FYI, Basic pedicure is now $23, but the spa menu prices have not changed). It was a nice small upgrade that elevated the basic pedicure experience. My technician, Amy, understood limited English, but I was able to communicate with her to apply more pressure during the foot massage (which really got out some knots!) Careful attention was paid to smoothing my feet and toes so that looked back to a presentable state! Amy also diligently worked on my hands, which embarrassingly had gotten overgrown cuticles. (Basic manicure here is now $12.) She indeed took extra time to remove them all (hey, 4 months of quarantine and DIY at home catches up eventually), even muttering it in Mandarin at one point (yeah, I understood that, Amy). At one point, She went a little rough with the cuticle removal and it felt like she dug a bit too deep into the nail bed, as there was a harsh sting when acetone was applied during clean-up (ouch!). I took it as blunt honesty vs rudeness, since I figured maybe my hands were out of practice of feeling what cuticle removal was like. Again, similar to the feet and toes, Amy brought my fingers back to a presentable state! At this visit, I only had time for a basic manicure, but I was very impressed by the owner, Lily, working some of the adornments on her own nails. Gems, lace, stickers, a chain, foils-- oh my! Her attention to detail was amazing, and her prices for extras were reasonable. She also is willing to work with budgets if you only want a few contrast nails to keep it affordable, but still want a little luxury. TL;DR - Super friendly customer service and CLEAN! Great attention to detail. All staff wore masks, and I saw them wipe down areas when we were done using them. For the extended hours alone, I would return. read more

This salon is steps from the Douglaston LIRR station and has been in the hood for a little over a year. It still looks brand new and super well kept. The tables, floors, and stations were all in order and clean. Not even one nail polish bottle out of order! I stopped in for an eyebrow wax and was greeted by everyone in the place. The staff is very friendly overall. My wax technician was a lady named Sunny. She took care of my eyebrows in a few minutes. Painless and she applied a cooling toner afterwards. She noticed my dry skin and asked when I had my last facial. Couldn't tell her but I said practically never. I think I've only had it done three times, ever. Marketing to the laziest skin care person here. But she mentioned the process and the cost, sounds totally reasonable since I paid about that price 12 years ago. LOL Told you, I don't do these beauty regime things. Anyway, good to finally try this place out. And it's super convenient location wise. Opens til 8pm as well. Most places closer to my house close at 7pm. This could be a great option. I'd be happy to return to try their other spa services or for a mani-pedi. I'd written a review from my sister's Yelp account and now I just had to post my own updated one! Lily never fails to amaze me, and everyone else in the salon is also very sweet, welcoming, and talented, too. I'd gotten a pedicure recently as well, it was lined and very sanitary. Lily had also worked on my nails during the pedicure because I was on a time constraint (she did my lashes after too, which are amazing, too. More on that later). Lasted 4 weeks before any chipping occurred at all! Sooo meticulous and talented with a great design sense, I always recommend friends and strangers who compliment my nails to go to this salon. I'd only gotten my nails done by Lily unfortunately, I do like to stick to one tech haha. But yes -- she does lashes too! Wonderfully as well! They're so lightweight, and... I'm new to lash extensions however had them prior to having them done by Lily, but... Some techs tell you to not get your lashes wet within the first 48 hours, and that's due to the quality of the materials they're using. I went home after my first set, washed my face, and 0 problems with my lashes. The issue now is that they stay on too long! I had a pretty decently full set by the three week mark when I went to get my refill, and they were still not ready to go even when my natural lashes grew out a bunch! Lol. Highly recommend and encourage everyone to make an appointment with Lily. She's so hardworking, talented, VERY accommodating, and sososoo sweet! By a sweet, talented soul named Lily. I live about 15 miles away towards LI and having been here twice with extremely pleasant experiences, I'll be coming here exclusively. My local nail salon(s) were booked and I was in desperate need for a fill-in as a nail came off. Called D Shiny Nail and had availability, (had to go to Douglaston anyway) and went. The interior as it is now is still a work in progress (I believe), but it's honestly one of the prettiest I've seen in LI. It'll only get better from here! She already has such a huge and varied collection of gels (can def confirm) and powders (I don't normally do powder, just from what I've seen and experienced). The first time she'd worked on my nails, well, I've always strayed away from colour and kept to solid nudes, baby blues and pinks, and white. Boring, I know. Classic, but boring. She suggested, almost pressed -- of course, in the sweetest and friendliest way -- to try something new! NEON! ** She spent her time with me on choosing different gel polishes, and I fell in love when she applied the yellow gel. I received sosososo many compliments, from strangers to coworkers, close friends, and the like. My second trip: same thing -- eh, I guess I'll just do a baby blue or something. Maybe another neon? Something safe lol -- but oh no; y'all, she was adamant on spicing it UP but keeping it still subtle to my liking. GLOW IN THE DARK WITH GLITTER! She mixed the glow in the dark powder with a light whitish-pink powder and it's so. Well, the pictures speak for themselves. **Forgot to mention, she stayed about 30 minutes past closing, all while taking her time for application, shaping, and all that jazz to make them perfect. In response to DK N. They may have always done your nails perfectly and up to your expectations, but my experience was horrible. You can clearly see the poorly done job in the photos I provided. Please do not call me a fraud and please do not assume and exaggerate on details. Yelp is a place for opinions on businesses, not on other Yelpers. I asked Lily to change the design once because the material she was using for the design I originally asked did not look nice at all. Additionally, she didn't even have the material for the design I was asking for and she suggested using the plastic film as a replacement. We decided to go with something else, and when I asked her to apply glitter instead, she didn't have the glitter I wanted. So we tried 2 different ways of applying the glitter, full and ombré. Of course I would expect a bump from where the acrylic was applied and my natural nail, but this was actually not the case. The bumps I'm referring to are on the acrylic nails themselves due to the uneven application of the nail polish. This doesn't excuse the fact that my old nail polish wasn't fully removed, nail polish wasn't smooth, cuticles weren't cut, nails not filed evenly, and excess oil not removed before applying nail polish. read more

I'm writing this review while still at the nail salon on the wonderful massage chairs. I just finished my pedicure set and I'm currently waiting for my manicure. (Someone made an appointment for 6:30 so she had to attend to her; which is fine because I'm in no rush.) Let me start by saying that this establishment is extremely clean. I noticed that they use new equipment on each customer, and I really appreciate that. Christina, who did my pedicure is extremely nice and friendly. She always made sure I was satisfied with my nail color and the shape that I wanted. I'm not really picky with nail shapes and what not because I rarely get my nails done. But the fact that she asked before she started my toes and recommended a shape I really appreciated that. ... I just got home from getting my mani pedi set (cost $30 and let me say that I'm in LOVE! Christina was so amazing and sweet. Everyone there was very attentive and friendly to be honest. Like I said before, I usually never get my nails done ever, but because of the outstanding treatment i received, and the cleanliness of the salon, I definitely will be a regular now. :) read more

This place has gone downhill significantly! What a shame. I made an appointment with Esther (or Erica, as she is now going by). I was waiting in the pedicure chair for 47 minutes!!!! She was busy with another client in the wax room and promised me that she would be done "in 15 minutes." It is confusing to know that there are only 2 technicians working during the peak season of summer. The owner did not see this as a problem and continued to do nothing at the reception desk. He did not even try to mitigate the situation of me waiting an absurd amount of time - especially since I had an appointment! When I brought my concern to him, he just said "oh sorry." He did not try to offer me any compensation for his mistake. I will never be returning back here. Apparently they know how to take the appointment, they just don't know how to keep it. read more

Decent nail shop but have you all ever been to a Vietnamese nail salon in California?! This fails terribly in comparison. Came in for lash extensions. The lady had another appointment in half an hour so we agreed to do a half set. I'm used to getting long (16-18) curly (D or G curl) lash extensions. They only had up to 13 C which is not enough for me, but I was short on time so decided to go for it anyway. Don't know if she was rushed because her next client came in but some of the lashes came out crooked and stuck to my skin - this is a no no when it comes to extension. Needless to say I won't be coming back here for extensions again. I also got a pedicure afterwards. Pedicure was decent, it's cool that they use the gelly stuff to soak your feet, but when it comes to skill in nail polish removal and application, this place is not up to par in my opinion. The shoulder massage afterwards was nice and someone wrapped my feet in Saran Wrap to protect the polish from my shoes when I had to leave. It's really these perks that give this place its 3 stars, not so much the execution. read more

I enjoyed coming here in the beginning but unfortunately had way too many annoying / negative experiences to continue. Their prices are higher than other salons and their service does not match the prices. They are not good at powder gel manicures. The few times I got powder gel I left disappointed because there were major brush strokes on all my nails from the top coat. Another annoying thing: they close at 8:00, but if you walk in at 7:20, they (the women) give you an attitude and look very annoyed that you're there. If they want to close early they should change their hours. Don't give me an attitude because I arrive before 7:30. I arrived at 7:15 one night and they turned me away because they were "closing early" that day. Luckily for me I had to go to another salon because I had an event the next day and ended up going to Coco Nails on Horace Harding Expressway and turns out they do an excellent job at powder gel. So now I only do pedicures at D-Shiny. Until today. Today the owner wasn't there so I noticed that the women working in there felt very comfortable being unprofessional with customers. I can tolerate a lot of things and I'll keep going back if I like the atmosphere but once these nail salon workers start being nasty with me and treat me like I'm not one of their good customers who tip them very well, I'm out!!! I was waiting for 45 minutes today, which is fine because I did not have an appointment. This lady came in after I was waiting for 40 minutes and she said that she's early for her appointment. They went ahead and took her over me even though she was early and I was waiting for 45 minutes. The lady that worked there looked at me and said "we have to take our customers first". So me going there every single week doesn't qualify me as a customer??? Because I didn't make an appointment I'm not a customer? Cool. read more

Extremely confused with all the positive reviews. I wanted to like this place because of the cleanliness; you can tell that they strive to keep this place clean and people seem to be nice. However, I must say I wouldn't go back because of my experience today. I went in today to get a regular pedicure and SNS. Let me just say the pedicure was done as a half ass job. Wasn't meticulously polished. You can see the top coat layered on top of the actual colored nail polish. Not a good look. Now onto the SNS. My nail technician had to go back on my right pinky and remove a layer of the polish with the nail thinning device; she explained it was because it didn't evenly apply. Okay I thought. I started feeling a burning sensation as she continuously used the device. So I spoke up at one point that she was burning me. It was so bad that I had to pull my hand away from her. She gives me like a 5 second break to cool off. Then proceeds to go back onto doing it on the same finger, even though I had just mentioned to her that it's hot. Whatever, didn't really think much of it at the time. Then she keeps using it and using it. Mind you, I have gotten SNS done before. I don't ever remember this type of experience. I understand everyone has different techniques but you def shouldn't be feeling discomfort as your nail tech is doing this to achieve the look. When the final layer of the polish was going on, it started to burn me a little. She starts shaking her head saying something along the lines of "oh no why is this bubbling". I tell her that it's burning me a little bit. She says "that is not the point right now. The point is this layer of polish isn't layered correctly". When I was at their salon, I didn't really notice anything. It wasn't until I got into my car and noticed that she fucked it up. Literally. And it wasn't like there was a language barrier because I speak their language. Extremely pissed. Now my nails feel extremely thin and weak, even with the SNS powder on my nails. The powder looks extremely shitty to the point where I applied my OWN regular pink polish as soon as I got home. Which looks more decent now. I really should've noticed from the moment I walked in bc they barely had any customers, and only 3 employees working. Thought it was a little strange but didn't think much of it in the moment. I am never ever going back there. I paid $120 + tip, bc my mom tagged along with me to get her nails done too. Only reason why I'm giving a star is for the cleanliness and that's it. I could probably call them and complain about it, so that they can re-do it. But I don't want to risk the chance of going back and for them to fuck it up again. 1) it would be a waste of time 2) my nails are already TOO thin, weak and brittle. So no thanks. Took me a while to find a good nail salon. This place does a nice job and is clean. They have awesome massage chairs for when you get a pedicure. It's one of the better massage chairs and you're guaranteed a good amount of time on it since they don't rush the service! I like that they have the weekly polish option which is $3 more but guaranteed to last a good week (since $30 for gel is a bit more than what I'd like to spend). The salon is just steps away from the train station making it very convenient for when I come by. I had a gel manicure done by Lily. After reading reviews about the cleanliness of this place, we decided on a couple if pedicures. Tub liners and sterilized tools are what sold me. The green tea gel bath was nice and soothing. The staff was friendly and always asked about your preference whether it be nail shape or strength of the massage. Pedicure and a 10 minute massage which included hot stones came out to $30. A little pricey imo but I'd still go back to treat myself every now and then. read more

I can't say enough about this place ! First, the staff couldn't be nicer, and not at all pushy. The salon is so clean, you can eat off the floor . They hermitically sterilize the tools and line the pedicure tubs for an added layer of protection. I went in for a regular pedicure, but it was definitely a more spa-like pedi. The beads in the water along with the salt scrub and short massage were super relaxing. The salon is very clean, and the tools are all sterilized and sealed before each use. The staff is very quiet but friendly and attentive, not pushy at all. This place is more expensive than most nail salons so I expect it to be really good service. The first time I went there they had all these extra fees at the end without telling me beforehand. They also didn't do a very good job on my nails. They have a very limited selection of colors. They also don't do enough top coats for the gel manicure. Out of convenience of it's location I've frequented this salon since it's opening. I usually have a decent experience, mind you I have natural nails and only ever get manicures and pedicures. There's very rarely ever more then two girls working so walk ins are usually rushed. Even with appointments I've made I found they rush through. I read it's under new management and perhaps that's the reason I had such an unpleasant experience this evening. Both girls were busy but there was actually a young guy there available to do the manicure I needed. I had 30 minutes to spare so I wasn't in a rush but also didn't have more time. First off there was a misunderstanding and he thought I wanted my nails super short when I was just saying they ARE short and I just want them cleaned up. Second his hands were shaking like it was his first day which might've very well have been the case. So no worries but then he starts cutting my cuticles. After spending a few minutes and is now only on the second finger and is now shredding my cuticles to the point of bleeding I asked the other girl who was now finished if she could finish up since I wasn't trying to be there all night and also didn't want him to continue butchering my cuticles. She then she misunderstands and thinks I'm in a massive hurry and rushes and ends up shredding one cuticle even worse then the guy! I paid and walked out. If you noticed I don't really write that many reviews, but today I felt compelled to give this establishment a great review because of my superb experience there. As supposed to other Asian nail salons, staff here is just genuinely friendly. You're greeted with smiles, nobody is rushing you and shoving your around. Wide range of colors and multiple brands to choose from. I was also watching them clean up THOROUGHLY after each client. The background music is relaxing and staff is quiet to create a peaceful ambience. I had Esther to do my mani/pedi and she recommended the green tea pedicure that was on sale this month. To my surprise it included reflexology massage and a hot stone treatment and Esther was very skillful. She took her time and make sure it was perfect. I was there for almost 2 hours. I like that they take credit card. None of those "counting tip in front of you" business. I left her the tip and she quickly put it away without looking and thanked me sincerely. I feel really bad for giving a 2 star rating because the ladies were so nice but I have to be honest. I came in today for my 3:30 lash extension appointment. I had called ahead because I thought I was gonna be late but I got there on time. However, there was no point in even having an appointment because I waited half an hour anyway. After I've laid down, the lady starts putting a LOT of tape on my face. I've had lash extensions done at two other places in Manhattan and have never experienced this. However, I didn't question her. During the session, I felt the occasional poke on my lash line where she probably glued the extension to my skin instead of my eyelash. Usually when I get lash extensions done, I fall asleep. I was unable to this time though, as she would push down on my brow bone and eyelid. The session took 1.5 hours, half an hour longer than most places. Because of this, I thought my lashes were going to look glam, which I was excited about. BUT, when I went to the bathroom right after and saw my reflection, I was more than underwhelmed. There was almost no difference in my lashes; it looked horrific. I couldn't believe I paid $90 and wasted 2 hours of my day for this. 2 lashes were already coming off and she had JUST done them! I still gave her a tip, because she was so sweet. Two stars because everyone there was insanely nice, and it could've gone worse. Wish I could get my money back :/ Wasn't cheap for a college student. Lesson learned -- don't go to a nail place for lash extensions. read more
