My only complaint is that it's hard to find the place since it's sort of up a hill and tucked away in a parking lot within the Menard's parking lot, but it's worth the trip! read more

This was by far our worst experience we have had here. The restaurant is pretty filthy and the food was old or spoiled outside of the Gyro sandwich. These items should have been caught in the prep kitchen before they being served to guests. We didn't have good service. We gave this feedback to the waiter on the quality of the salads and he did nothing with that information. We were halfway through with our meals when he asked if we wanted our bill. I really wanted this place to be amazing. I love the retro, classic vibes, the chairs, and the overall atmosphere it really transports you to another era. The service was great the staff was friendly, welcoming, and always smiling, which I truly appreciated. Unfortunately, the food just didn't live up to my expectations. Everything was over-seasoned with cinnamon to the point where every bite tasted the same! We ordered lasagna (a Greek-style version) and moussaka, but honestly, they were indistinguishable and also they looked the same, tasted the same, and were both overwhelmingly oily. The portions were also too thin to be satisfying. The cleanliness of the plates were questionable as well Tha side of Greek salad was the best thing I tried. Very delicious and i liked the touch of beet slices. Good bread as well The fries were okay, nothing special, but not bad. The ice cream portion was generous, which I appreciated, but the product quality didn't taste great. For the price, I expected much better. It felt very overpriced for what we got. Are here for a late breakfast/early lunch. Usually I always order breakfast but it's been awhile for me having a good Detroit style coney dog so I went with the combo that comes with one coney dog, one Greek salad, and fries. It was ok at best. Coney could have had more sauce. It was lacking in quantity for sure. I prefer a natural casing dog. It wasn't. Could have been a much better quality hot dog. The bun was soft and fresh. Salad was extremely small. However it was fresh. One beet. One olive. One tomato slice. One pepperocini. Fries were fresh but they were all really tiny. My dining partner ordered breakfast. She had the two eggs over medium, hash browns and toast. The eggs came out overcooked and were more towards over hard. The hash browns were served up plentiful but a bit on the under done side. Overall, it wasn't bad but could have been better. When it comes to coneys, and breakfast/eggs...I'm definitely picky. Living a mile away I can't believe it took us nine years to try this little gem. On the recommendation of others, we decided to give it a try. It was exactly as described an old-school diner with really great service and great diner style food. My mom had the hamburger and she loved it! I had the gyro and it was one of the best gyro's I've had. My wife just had a simple salad and it hit the spot. We went back again with my dad as he was craving it Chicago hotdog. Their version was excellent, but he was even more excited about the ice cream. They have a great array of hand packed ice cream. I had an omelette, which was very good. Overall, I'm really pleased. So I'm going to start this review of with the thing that compelled me to write this. I was missing a bit of the taste of home, and I ordered a gyro plate. I like to get my tzatsiki on the side because I don't like when it melts all over the hot food. I'm really glad this is my way because rather than basing it in Greek yogurt, it was mayonnaise! Mayonnaise! Ugh! Minus one star. The rest of the plate was good, except for the typical sad tomatoes that seem to be everywhere. Disappointed, I pushed on and ordered a cream puff sundae. It looked good, and was well presented, but the pastry was pretty stale. I'd rather have had them all me to order something else than be served stale food. Minus one star. The staff were quick and courteous. The place was clean and bright. The food was decent. I would give them another chance, but I won't be rushing back. This is a great neighborhood restaurant although it's in front of Menards! Family owned and friendly servers will greet you st the door. You can usually see a familiar face or two when you stop by. I think they're known for their Koney dogs and Greek foods. Interesting concept if you ask me, but my kids aren't complaining! Try some Greek salads, mousaka, gyros, or a hot dog! Best part of D'Nicios is the ice cream parlor. My kids love to sit on the stools and eat a sundae. The coney dog was good. Wish it came with cheese or I would have added it. I probably overlooked this on the menu! Fries were hot! Hubby had French toast which he said was really good. Syrup was buttery and great maple flavor. They serve breakfast all day. Waiter was great. Very nice and on top of our drink refills since he was the only one working Saturday at lunch time and they were busy. Went to D'Nicio's and it was very good! They have breakfast all day, which I really like. I had a great Pattie melt and a cheese burger (not in the same visit), and the big breakfast. All very good! They have an array of very fine ice creams, and the waitstaff is very kind and very good. It seemed a bit pricey to me, HOWEVER I sadly am notoriously cheap, so take that for what it's worth. Although the ice cream was delicious, I would say the service was less than stellar. We entered the restaurant well before closing. We were told they were only serving ice cream to go which was fine. While we were deciding on our flavors the crew was busy cleaning the restaurant and shutting down. One girl was even closing out the register. At one point another customer entered and was turned away. When our ice cream was delivered I asked for a lid but was told they had none. Or, was the guy just too lazy to go get me one? Everyone was too worried about getting out of work instead providing good customer service. Guess I'll go elsewhere for ice cream in the future. Even though I am diabetic and cannot sample their ice cream flavors, they DID have NSA Butter Pecan ice cream for me. The food was surprisingly good! The hamburgers are huge and well worth the money. Have been coming here for years, but today will be my last. You guys literally are charging more than Applebee's, Main Street, all of the other real restaurants around are cheaper and higher quality! 50 dollars for chicken tenders and hot dogs. I might not be so upset if the restaurant was clean, but there is broken and sharp tile right next to the booth, it's very dirty and very dark. The chicken used to be high-quality and they have since changed to lower quality, I really do understand why it's typically pretty in there. People come once and don't return. Do better, I hope the owner sees us and if you do and shrug it off, you're the reason you're not making profit. read more

The Server was very nice, but that is the only positive about our experience. My husband ordered a single (two-scoops) and I ordered a Junior Turtle Sundae ($4-5 more than his). Let me tell you, that was the SADDEST sundae I've ever had. His two-scoops were actually larger than mine and they were served in similar dishes. Taste wasn't any better either, the fudge tasted old and cheap. I simply ate it because I knew I was paying $10 for my sundae. Whoever prepares them should be retrained on portion sizes, as the sizes/prices did not make sense and were not consistent with what we saw around us. Gave this place a try based on a recommendation from Tristan, but we heeded his suggestion to check for opening hours. Good thing we did: a sign tacked on the door reads "closed Mondays." We tried the patty melt and chocolate shake (him) and a lamb gyro and shake (me). He said the onions on his patty melt were not cooked enough, and that he preferred the fries at another place we eat, but these were acceptable. My shake was tasty, and effectively filled the glass twice since they brought the container they mixed it in which contained seconds. My gyro was tasty, and since I cannot get lamb-beef doner anywhere else in town (Theo and Stacy's is unacceptable--i bit into gristle in the last one I ordered there--and Nick's makes only pork) I will be headed back here the next time I need a doner fix. Once again, D'Nicio's Parlour is temporarily closing for part of the winter. At least, this time, it won't take us by surprise. We had stopped by for a meal the day before the business was closing and were told about it. The reason, it was explained to us, is that business slows down considerably when it gets cold and it doesn't make sense for them to stay open. I guess I find the whole thing puzzling: I can't see how you make a restaurant viable and profitable while closing it one sixth of a calendar year. How do you hold on to your service staff? What do you do with your suppliers? Aren't you still paying for rent, heat, insurance, and electricity? While I was taking the photos (see below) a carload of people drove past in the parking lot, paused to decipher the sign posted in the entrance, and drove on. When we had stopped by for a meal, there was no sign up on the entrance though the business was to be closed within a day. The owner was relying on customers learning by word of mouth. But I guess there were at least one carload of customers surprised by the closing today. I wonder how many cars will pass by between now and Jan. 31? Once upon a time, we used to treat this restaurant as our default dinner spot. We were as regular as Regulars can be. If we had nothing in the fridge for dinner, then off we went to D'Nicio's for a gyros and fries or large Athena salads. Meals were yummy. But over time, with the antics over its schedule, D'Nicio's Parlour has taught us to look elsewhere for a meal. And there are places locally, notably Nonla Burger, La Finca, and more recently, Nonla Taqueria, that we have grown to count on. read more

5 stars is a rarity with me, but well-deserved. Allow me to explain: ICE CREAM. HOLY COW, ICE CREAM FOR DAYS. The Parlour is, in addition to an ice cream parlour, a diner with classic diner fare as well as some Greek offerings (hello, Greek chili dogs and Saganaki!) Full disclosure: I haven't sampled much of the diner menu, but I plan to update in the future. The main event, as it rightly should be for all sweet-seekers, is the ice cream. I forgot to ask where they get their ice cream--it's definitely local, but I couldn't quite pin down who exactly (do they make their own?!). Aside from just being delicious, the Parlour sets the gold standard for portions. Their scoops are crazy big, and when your order makes its way to the table, you can't help but feel like they've made a mistake or you've gotten away with murder. It's freakin' great! The flavor list is expansive and includes all kinds of tasty bits and sauces mixed into their various base flavors. The options for sundaes are equally plentiful. If you think you are bold enough, and have godlike intestinal fortitude, you must consider taking on the "Dare to be Great" challenge. 21 fiendishly large scoops of ice cream. Finish it solo in an hour, and it's free. After roughly ten years of existence, the wall of fame is well-populated with hopefuls but devoid of conquerors. Will you step up to the plate? I've tackled the "Baby Dare to Be Great" (10 scoops) with a friend, and we both left in awe (and a little pain). I'm telling you, its not for the faint of stomach. The Parlour isn't in a particularly hoppin' part of town, but you owe it to yourself to give them a try the next time you're jonesing for a massive frozen dairy infusion. I ordered a mousaka, large Greek salad and iced tea. The mousaka came with a side salad (which I was unaware) and rice. They brought out a plain salad and asked what type of dressing I would like and i said no i ordered a Greek salad, and she told me my meal came with a side salad as well ... really odd she didn't point it out or ask me what type of dressing before bringing it out. I do like salad so I went with it. Salad was good. Mousaka was good. Rice was good. Greek salad didn't have the typical lemon vinaigrette type dressing with oregano and garlic, instead it was like a creamy ranch with dill. Very disappointed in the salad. We've been here before and have always enjoyed our times together here with family and friends. The interior is awesome with its 50's style countertops and decor. Not over-the-top trying super hard to look the part of a diner with corny pictures of 50's paraphernalia. Just simple and fun. I tried their gyro for the first time: really good! Husband had cheeseburger, which he seemed to enjoy as it was gone shortly after she brought it to the table. Side salad was a bit small, but the fries were piping hot and good. If you're looking for fancy food, probably not what you're going to find here. But it's good, basic comfort food you will get. Oh, and you want just a little bit of ice cream? That doesn't exist here. You will get a gigantic amount of ice cream which is delicious and addicting. read more

This was the first time I had eaten there. I looked up their menu on line and knew exactly what I wanted. I placed an order for myself and some coworkers over the phone, then went to pick it up, my bill was $12 more than it should've been. I was told the on line pricing hadn't been updated for many years. I was kind of disappointed I was not offered a discount, just a new menu with the up to date pricing. As a new kalamazooner, I've been on a quest to find the area's best Cony dog, this week took me to this place. I've had better, but I'll say the dogs are solid!
